Word for Word May 9

Drunk on "American Idol?" "Absolutely not true. It got very confusing. The producers come up to us in the dark and said, 'We are not going to have you guys judge after each performer, we are going to have all the performers go once, then twice and at the end critique them." -- Paula Abdul, on her "Idol" slip up.

    Frederick M. Brown, Getty Images

"This is not unusual. With tax evasion, (the IRS) gets very, very agitated and if you're famous they are putting you behind some kind of bar." -- Whoopi Goldberg, reaction to Wesley Snipes three-year tax evasion sentence.

    Amy Sussman, Getty Images

"I was in love with Tom and he was in love, too, but he was married and it was silly of us to do what we did. But I was in my 20s, still young enough to make mistakes, but I knew right from wrong and it had to end. There was real no real choice to make. He did the right thing and of course, that's what I loved about him. But we're just friends now and it's not something I think about." -- The Supremes star Mary Wilson, on her affair with Tom Jones back in the day.

    Ron Galella, WireImage.com

"Obviously I am embarrassed to find myself in this situation, and I am profoundly grateful to everyone for their support. I have complete confidence in and respect for the justice system and will cooperate fully with any investigation." -- CSI star Gary Dourdan told PEOPLE, on his recent drunk driving arrest.

Palm Springs Police Department / AP

"As long as they have a driver's license. I don't want to pick them up." -- Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall, on the subject of dating younger men, on the Oprah show.

    Harpo Productions / AP

"I'm looking for a brand new background singer. Me and my team are going to pick one especially, very talented person to come with me on the road. And if you win you get to rap with me Japan, China, Miami. Get you cameras out. Show me what you got." -- Alicia Keys, on her Web site, promoting her new backup singer audition contest.

    Peter Kramer, AP

"How could you not love Yoko...? She gave us "Give Peace A Chance," "Imagine." When John Lennon left the Beatles, he was able to do that shit." -- Rapper Nas, talks about Yoko Ono's influence on The Beatles.

    Steve Granitz, WireImage.com

"I went to the doctor for this chronic elbow problem, and he told me he had some chronic medicine that he could prescribe to me that would alleviate the pain. So I went to this holistic doctor and basically got a prescription for wacky tabacky. You go to the pot store, or what they call a Wellness Center. They have everything. They make a marijuana butter." -- Actor Anthony Anderson, admits he's a stoner.

    Donna Ward, Getty Images

"All of this young energy is great for the industry. Chris is the guy who dances and sings, which is a lot like I do and did as a young artist as well. If time serves us correctly, and artists are continuing to better themselves, then hopefully he'll follow the same path that I did." -- Usher said of Chris Brown.

    Kevin Winter, Getty Images

''We strongly dispute the claimed authenticity and affirmatively state that Experience Hendrix is neither involved in, nor have we authorized the distribution of this (Jimi Hendrix sex) film.'' -- Experience Hendrix, the company that controls the rights to Hendrix's music and likeness.

1. I'm trying to figure out how she keeps her job. I don't find her comments particularly astute or helpful. Even the contestants seem to view her as someone to get a kind word from...They don't take her seriously as they do Randy and Simon. And when she's critical, it's shockingly weird, like with Syesha last night.

I say replace her with a competent female judge. At least when Carrie on "Dancing With the Stars" speaks, she can be taken seriously and appears to have put some thought into her comments.

Paula always appears to be out-of-it and struggling for words. If it's not drugs or drink, perhaps she's had a brain injury...In any case, she doesn't deserve the job.

2. Replace Paula with someone who actually knows something about singing and music, and can adequately express constructive criticism. She simply has no value on the show. Randy also is in jeopardy for being relevant. He needs to step-up his game too.

Bob Stenhouse at 1:34PM on May 14th 2008

3. I thank that paula and randy need to go the show would be better off without them

Paulette at 4:35PM on May 14th 2008

4. SHE BE DRUNK!!!!

msbee at 7:33PM on May 14th 2008

5. What I want to know is: why do people who are ignorant about such things as musical ability, etc., seem to be the ones who critisize the most? If you think you can do better than Paula, then by all means, you should apply for her position. I think she is a refreshing breath of air situated between two brutes. Some one should be there for those contestants and sort of soothe their sometimes bruised egos. I believe that Paula was chosen just for that reason, because she appears to have such a gentle and kind spirit. So......lay off Paula Abdul.

Ruby McNair at 10:32PM on May 14th 2008

6. What haters Paula had an album and a choreographer jealous I love her..

cahnel j at 11:47PM on May 14th 2008

7. Paula really has no reliavance on the show she is just taking up space and i must admit sometimes she has it together and others she is fumbling for words

Crystal at 1:07AM on May 15th 2008

8. Paula thought she finally had a chance to get "back in" the big time like others of her generation have done. She's blown it. First, by being away too long from her "B" list celebrity status as a DANCER, Second, by trying to reverse her reason for not performing ( back injury requiring MEDICATION) for a decade ( Does she REALLY think the dancers and judges on "Dancing with the Stars" would "respect" her?, and
Finally, that tired, hard, drunk/drugged, cougar look iwon't cut it with all of the fresh faced, stylish
audiences of today. That video that she and Randy put otogether is prime evidence. She and Randy are the
only ones who weren't rich before this show nor have
become so since. Both, as performers, are washed up!

Barbara Smith at 3:43AM on May 15th 2008
