Special Delivery: Actress Terri J. Vaughn Gives Birth To Second Son

Terri J. Vaughn & Karon Riley

Congratulations are in order for actress Terri J. Vaughn. The star of 'All of Us' and 'The Steve Harvey Show' gave birth to her second son, a baby boy named Kal'El Joseph Riley on April 21.

Vaughn is married to arena football star Karon Riley, who plays for the Cleveland Gladiators. This is the couple's first child.

Baby Riley weighed seven pounds, six ounces and measured 19.5 inches at his time of birth.

The child's name, Kal'El, was inspired because Riley is a self-proclaimed 'Superman' fanatic and Kal'El is Superman's Kryptonian name and means "God-like abilities."

"I think the name is very fitting for him -- he's strong, cool and mellow, just perfect," the actress said at the time of delivery. "I could tell even when I was carrying him inside me because he made me feel like Superwoman!"

The football star is excited about being a first time father. "Kal'El looks just like his daddy," he said. "Terri was amazing during the delivery."

The 'Daddy's Little Girl' star has another son, Daylen Ali, 6, from her previous marriage to Derrick Carolina.

Vaughn most recently starred in the films 'Dirty Laundry,' 'Redrum' and 'Three Can Play That Game.'

The actress has a non-profit organization called Take Wings Foundation, which provides scholarships, mentoring and job training opportunities for young women living in public housing in San Francisco .

16. WHAT'S IN A NAME? hIS NAME IS NO WORSE THAN THE NAMES OUR PARENTS WERE GIVEN. ERNESTINE, THOMASINE, ESTELLA, AND LOUISE, WHICH HAPPENS TO BE MY GRANDMOTHER'S NAME. NAME YOUR CHILD WHATEVER YOU CHOOSE.

TRACI at 9:17AM on May 2nd 2008

17. I agree with some of you on the name topic. I tutor at an elementary school, mostly black, and I have never seen more kids named after alcohol and cars it is just stupid. We have a Hennessey, Bacardi, Corvosier, and Brandy (which has become more accepted). I just feel so ashamed for the child. EX. Reverend Corvosier, this does not sound good at all, and I imagine that the only job he will secure will be of low status; that's if he does not live up to his name and end up in prison for multiple DUI's or something of the sort.

For the comment on women naming their daughters after their fathers, I named my daughter Mckenzie in honor of her father Ken. I as well as others love it. It is a surname that is becoming a first name for many.

23. Congradulations Terri and Karon on your baby son Kal'El... I must say that his name has very a unique spelling... and I like it... Good Luck!!!

moneak at 10:21AM on May 2nd 2008

24. First of all, congrats to Terri and her husband! To Bronze Fox and others who feels as she does; that African Americans are just American... Why is it ok to limit ourselves to just being American. America is only 200+ years old. AFRICAN AMERICAN dna did not start in 1776. Also the brother and sisters that you are speaking of from Africa, can also be of "mixed ancestry" The concern that so many people have of what we call ourselves is only because to connect with our African ancestry is very powerful. Especially in breaking the psychological chains of slavery. Weather we like it or not, the truth is,we would not be here today if our bloodline was not started in Africa. Embrace who you are with pride! and let others do the same.

25. Congratulations on the birth of a healthy baby boy. Anytime new life is brought into the world it's reason to celebrate. Unfortunately I am siding with the others on the name. Black people (Yes I am Black) really urk me with the "creativity" they use when naming our worlds future leaders. Please keep in mind that this child is going to grow up and need a job someday do you really think anyone will take Kal'El seriously when they see that name before meeting him? Something to think about! Come on Black people WAKE UP!

27. I want to say great for you and your grandmother Ms. Champion. Jones Methodist Church Photographer

28. Congrats to the proud parents on the birth of their healthy baby boy.

Why is it that people with no creative mind always like to shoot someone down who has one. Are you mad because you have a plain name like millions of other people. I bet if you did a name search you probably couldn't even figure out which one was you. Get a life. I bet when someone calls you over the intercom you aren't even sure its you they are calling unless they say your last name. Hope that isn't a common one either or they might have to use your middle name.
LMAO

29. I thought this post was about Terri and Karon having a new baby.. was I wrong??

congratulations on the birth of your precious new baby boy! for those that think less than positively of his name, if he's around others like you, he'll have to be a strong man, as it will take strength to carry said name! I neither like nor dislike the name, but trust- I have seen a LOT worse!

I was named after my grandfather Wendell, and as a female child, I'm no worse off than a Tiffany or a Lisa.. I also feel to each his own when naming their children.. at least they didn't name him after a fruit or a car, for heaven's sake!

Wendee at 11:34AM on May 2nd 2008
