Angela Bassett
is revving things up with a slew of new projects, most notably an upcoming gig on the final season of 'E.R.'

The Academy Award nominated star of films such as 'What's Love Got to Do with It?,' 'Akeelah and the Bee' and 'Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns' will join the cast of NBC's long-running medical drama starting this fall.According to published reports, the Yale School of Drama trained actress will play a troubled physician who's coming back to The Windy City after a few years in Indonesia doing tsunami relief.

Her arrival in the second episode promises to shake County General's ER to the core, reported one news outlet.

Her work on 'E.R.' will mark the first full-time series gig for Bassett, who portrayed CIA Director Hayden Chase on the ABC action drama series 'Alias' in 2005.

Her long list of television credits also include 'Time Bomb,' 'Ruby's Bucket of Blood' and 'The Rosa Parks Story,' for which she was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2002.

Bassett, who turns 50-years-old in August, recently wrapped the Notorious B.I.G. biopic, 'Notorious,' in which she plays his mother Voletta Wallace.

Other projects in the can for the Olay spokesmodel include the Carl Seaton-directed independent family drama 'Of Boys and Men' and 'Nothing But the Truth,' starring Matt Damon, Kate Beckinsale and Alan Alda.

6. i couldn't care any less, as i stopped viewing e.r. a couple seasons back. but i am troubled with their bring on an actress who is pushing 50, when they fired all of the shows stars who were then over 40!
the producers said real e.r.'s don't have people that old working them, so they needed to go for realism.
now they bring on an actress who is even older! i think this is a racial "thing", to go along with obama running for president.

steven at 6:43AM on May 1st 2008

7. Steven, grow up, not everything is about race, Angela Bassett is an amazing, beautiful actress who can bring some spice to a great show. Get over it already.

8. Waiting to Exhale, How Stella Got Her Groove Back.
I just love, love, love, her. Beautiful, talented, humble, and one of the nicest movie stars out there. I haven't been watching ER for awhile but if she is going to be on then I will.

Rhonda at 7:05AM on May 1st 2008

9. Angela has always been a classy act and it will be a welcome addition to the cast of ER. She is so beautfiul and so talented and has yet to get caught up in the Hollywood hype. After all these years, you have never read about her found with tons of drugs or other scandals. She has withstood the test of time and continues to get better. Go Angela!!!

Velvet at 8:18AM on May 1st 2008

10. If she married Huckleberry Hound and hyfinated her name she would be Angela Bassett-Hound. My favorite is is Demi Moore married Andy Dick she would be Demi Moore-Dick. :)

Mark Elliott at 8:30AM on May 1st 2008

11. I think she also was in the sequal for Waiting to Exhale called Waiting to fart.

Mark Elliott at 8:32AM on May 1st 2008

12.
Steven, you sound like a racist fool.(#6)What is your problem? RACE,RACE,RACE it was never mentioned
until you brought it up in this nothing to do with
conversation. Are you a RACIST? Have you seen any of Angela Bassett's movies? I guess not! Come from under your sheets, and get with the program.
HOLLA BACK!

Tyrone at 8:42AM on May 1st 2008

13. This is not the first full time series gig for Angela Bassett. She played the lead in "Murder She Wrote". I think that was her best role.

Matlock at 9:21AM on May 1st 2008

14. That lady can act... think I'll check out ER again.
#6 - Gotta say that was a strange comment even for AOL.. Could you be a poor soul someone locked away in a basement for decades -- like back in the 50's?

sandy at 9:38AM on May 1st 2008

15. Glad the woman's getting some decent work in TV--Cuz here recently, she surely ain't finding it on the movie scene.
