Juanita Bynum: Leading Star-Studded 'Women's Empowerment Festival'

Posted Apr 11th 2008 11:11AM by Karu F. Daniels

UPDATE:
On April 15, producers of the concert canceled the event citing "scheduling conflicts." According to event spokesperson Gwendolyn Quinn, On The Rocks principals Derrick Sanders and Shelby Joyner are "working with talent and Radio City Music Hall on securing a new date in the future."

Tickets ordered through Ticketmaster Phones or Ticketmaster Online have already been automatically credited to the purchaser's credit card account.

All heaven is expected to break loose on April 19 when some of the biggest female names in gospel music get together for the 'Women Empowerment Gospel Festival.'

Presented by On The Rocks Entertainment, Inc. the star-studded event -- hosted by Prophetess Dr. Juanita Bynum (pictured center) and featuring performances by Shirley Caesar (right), Yolanda Adams (left) and The Clark Sisters -- will take place at New York's storied Radio City Music Hall.

In addition to musical performances, the Rev. Dr. Carl L. Washington, current officiating pastor of New Mount Zion Baptist Church located in Harlem, will be a special guest speaker.

According to the production's spokesperson Gwendolyn Quinn, a host of celebrity speakers are expected to join Rev. Washington in sharing positive and powerful messages for women of all spiritual backgrounds.

"The event will give women the opportunity to come together and highlight the efforts of some of the most non-vocal, yet obedient disciples of the Lord," she said. "Several women of the Gospel who are true advocates of inspirational empowerment for women and embody the power of worship and the impact that comes along with it will be honored during the event."

Honorees include First Lady Elder Karen Bernard of Brooklyn mega-church Christian Cultural Center; Pastor Subrenia McDaniel from The Lord's Church Family Worship Center in the Bronx; Evangelist Gail Bligenof from Manhattan's Salvation and Deliverance; First Lady Kim Michelle of Manhattan's Salvation and Deliverance; Rev. Pura M. DeJesus of the Bronx's Love Gospel Assembly; First Lady Joanne Gregori of the Crossway Christian Center in The Bronx; First Lady Peggy Moales of the Prayer Tabernacle, Church of Love Inc. in Bridgeport, CT; and Co-Pastor Jeanette Spencer Rush of Hartford, Connecticut's Ebenezer Temple.

"There are so many people suffering and experiencing difficult times spiritually and personally -- especially women," added Quinn. "This festival will provide hope, comfort and healing for the churched and unchurched."

The promoters have extended their grassroots marketing reach with a flurry of promotional initiatives, including point of purchase signage and a full throttle radio campaign.

Starting April 10, a special "Buy One Get One Half Off" ticket promotion became available for five days. "This event marks a rare occasion at Radio City Music Hall," noted Quinn (pictured left), who also reps major music superstars Aretha Franklin and Kirk Franklin.

"Events of this caliber are few and far between at major A-list union venues such as Radio City and gospel artists are not touring, ministering and performing at these venues on a regular bases," she added. "Even with the financial hardships of some, I'm praying that people can come out in large numbers to experience a blessing of a lifetime."

Ticket prices range from $50 to $125 and a portion of proceeds from the event will benefit The Corratta L. Walker Educational Scholarship Fund for Children, a foundation that provides enrichment and personal growth by providing financial assistance for educational opportunities to individuals 17 - 25 years of age.

1. I am a huge fan of Yolanda Adams and listen to her morning show daily...very inspirational and I appreciate such positive and loving messages as I start my day...Shirley Caesar has always been a big favorite also. This sounds major and a "must-be-there" event...As I am not from NY, I will not be able to attend but I hope that it will be televised to be shown at a later date...God Bless One and All!

3. I would like to what hurting women are they reaching. The women I come in contact with are hurting broken hearted, down trodden. They are just making it with there children and yes they work. If they wanted to come the ticket price is to high for them. The ones that really need can't afford it, Jesus didn't charge.

4. Greetings my sisters-in-Christ,
I would love to be with you all, but my finances will not prement me to be there. You all will be in my prayers. I pray that a lost soul is save and someone turn their life back to the Lord.

5. The celebrity speakers like superstar celebrity speakers and sports celebrity speakers are getting more price than normal motivational speaker professionals because they are having more influence in between the audience.

6. When will a Child of God hold an empowerment event for the women who are in the streets on drugs and giving their body away for money, dumping their children on the grandparnets. Jesus nerver charge anyone for the gospel He went to strange cities, towns and countries healing the sick and saving the lost. If I'm being negative I'm sorry but if God has placed a gift in you then you should use that gift to help someone get a stronghold out of their life. I love all these women just take all that Power to the streets of this world for FREE. Jesus went them sometimes. That's why I don't go to anymore conferences with that money I can help someone eat or buy a homeless person a blanket or shoes that's what Jesus did he feed the hungry. I'm tired our people(the christians or shall the religious people) pimping God, not saying these women are doing that but when I read the word of God I get empowered. And when I pray the Holy Sprit encourges me. Help some women who really don't know Jesus and He's the Pardon of all their sin. God Bless Them All

7. Just another way to make money. Yolanda and Juanita look like to hookers. So much make up, you wouldn't know who they were without it.

8. I AGREE TAKE IT TO THE STREETS FOR FREE THE CONFERENCE BAGGERS ARE BECOMING REALLY WEAK, WHEN ARE WE GOING TO STOP PROSTITUTING THE GOSPEL,YES THERE IS A WORD TO BE SPOKEN AND PEOPLE NEED TO HEAR IT, BUT WE ALSO NEED TO HEAR AND SEE EVERYDAY PEOPLE WHO ARE GOING THROUGH AND YET OVERCOMERS, MOST EVERYDAY PEOPLE CAN'T AFFORD THE TICKEY PRICE WTIH THE COST OF GAS AND FOOD AND LETS NOT FORGET SINGLE PARENTS MEN AND WOMEN ALIKE WHO ARE TRYING TO KEEP IT TOGETHER FOR THIER FAMILIES, WHAT EVER HAPPEN TO A FREE WILL OFFERING, I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT IF THE POWER OF GOD THE ANNOINTING REST ON YOUR LIFE, GOD WILL BLESS THAT OFFERING TO MEET THE NEED, MOST OF THE CELEBRITY SPEAKERS HAVE MONEY SO WHY DO THEY NEED TO CHARGE, IS IT A WAY OF LIVING OR IS GOD THE CENTER OF YOUR LIFE WHICH CHANGES THE DIRECTION OF YOUR MOTIVE, I AGREE YES EMPOWPENT IS GOOD HOWEVER WHAT IS BETTER IS HOW TO STAY THAT WAY, LET US NOT FORGET THE STONGHOLDS NEED TO PULLED DOWN AND DESTROYED FIRST, THAT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN WITH EVERYBODY SITTING NICE AND PRETTY,YOU HAVE TO GET DOWNRIGHT DIRTY TO DEAL WITH DEMONS,PEOPLE NEED TO BE DELIVERED NOT ENTERTAINED, MONEY TAKEN AND YOU LEAVE OUT THE SAME WAY YOU CAME IN BOUND, WHAT HAPPEN TO THE SAINTS OF OLD WHO TARRIED AND PRAYED AND FASTED TO THE HOLY SPIRIT CAME,LET'S FACE IT WE ARE ALL CONFERENCED OUT,GET SOME WHERE AND SIT DOWN.

9. When I first looked at these photo's they did not look like women who love the Lord. I thought we were a peculiar people. We are not supposed to look lie the world. I was disappointed to see Cece and Yolanda put on all this paste. Women of color are known for natural beauty and when I look at these women I am like worldly women pimping Jesus. And Juanita I just stopped listeing to her play with Jesus. I am tired of how bad she looks now without the Bishop. I think she preaches forgiveness and love well demonstrate it through your actions. I just got tired of this woman profitting off her bad marriage that she claimed God appointed. People say the Lord says touch not my annoited but who is to say who is annoited anymore. I say read the word for yourself. How can you be wanting to empower women but charge more then the average working woman can afford. You know God is going to get tired of this mess. Let's pray he does!

Lisa at 11:16PM on Apr 11th 2008

10. Juanita needs to host an empowerment seminar, like Jesse Jackson needs to host a marriage seminar. How could someone who altered their appearance, preach empowerment? She looks like a plastic barbie that was left out in the sun.

IPress at 12:34AM on Apr 12th 2008

11. "There are so many people suffering and experiencing difficult times spiritually and personally -- especially women," added Quinn. "This festival will provide hope, comfort and healing for the churched and unchurched."

If you have been to an event like this or similar, you do not need to go. You can read a book, listen to your favorite gospel cd, go to church, or go to your local gospel event---naw but that is not good enough.

Start putting your own events together; they can be just as good. Use your talents and uplift yourself by taking divine action

Why make them rich? You are need to take that money and invest in your own hope, comfort, and healing in a more wise way.

12. Why do we hate on each other. What's wrong with makeup and why are we judging our sisters, when the scripture definitely tell us not to judge. If you can go, then go. If not leave your negative opinions to yourself. There are constantly things going on in our different neighborhoods for the have and the have nots. Seem like the only people who have a problem with this, are just a few. We can all pitch in and do something in our own neighborhoods and watch God bless it. If you can't participate, don't hate, just create your own program and watch God celebrate what you can do to bless others.

Paulette at 3:23AM on Apr 12th 2008

13. I agree with sister Tonia Dotson. You are speaking the truth. I can't help but to feel an yucked feeling about Juanita. Especially when she want thousands for a prayer cloth.

Adrienne at 2:48PM on Apr 12th 2008

14. Have free women conference like Joyce Meyer do. If you want women to hear the words, then make it free at times. Stop being about the almighty dollar. Driving $200,000,000 cars and can't have a free conference?

Adrienne at 3:08PM on Apr 12th 2008

15. FIRST OF ALL I DO AGREE ABOUT IN THIS TIME THAT CONFERENCES FOR THE LORD SHOULD BE FREE AS JOYCE MEYERS ARE AND JESUS DID NOT CHARGE US FOR ANYTHING HE TOOK ALL OUR BURDENS AND SINS AND NAILED THEM TO THE CROSS, AND TO THE PERSON ABOUT THE MAKE-UP WHAT GOD MEANS WHEN HE SAID WE SHOULD NOT LOOK LIKE THE WORLD HE MEANS ON THE INSIDE NOT THE OUTSIDE BECAUSE AS OUR BIBLE SAID GOD DOES NOT JUDGE BY OUTSIDE APPEARANCE, IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE THAT READ YOUR BIBLE AND SEE ALL THE ONES HE CHOSE WAS NOT WHAT WE CONSIDER AS THE PICK OF THE CROP. AND WHO ARE WE TO SAY WHAT IS TO MUCH MAKE-UP OR ANYTHING WHAT MAY NOT BE RIGHT FOR U CAN BE RIGHT FOR SOMEONE ELSE. FOR EXAMPLE I DON'T LIKE WEAVES MYSELF, BUT AM I SUPPOSE TO GO TELL A SISTA TO TAKE IT OFF JUST BECAUSE I DON'T LIKE IT? DURING THIS TIME WE NEED TO BE PRAYING FOR THE DAY JESUS COME BACK AND HOW HE WILL FIND US ON THE INSIDE NOT WHAT U LOOK LIKE ON THE OUTSIDE, BECAUSE REMEBER RAHAB WAS A HARLOT BUT SHE WAS LISTED IN THE LINEAGE OF OUR SAVIOR MAKE-UP AND ALL
