Damon Dash & Missoni Give Back to Ghana

I

It seems that Ghana is the latest country that stands to benefit from charitable fashionistas. Margherita Missoni, the socialite/model/media darling of the Italian Missoni fashion family has teamed with jewelry designer Ileana Makri and hip-hop mogul Damon Dash to create items to benefit OrphanAid Africa a non-profit that focuses on supporting orphans and impoverished children there.

First up for grabs are two rose gold and diamond bracelets designed by Makri. With both styles on silk green cords, the all diamond one will retail for $640 while the single diamond version for just $240. Victoria 's Secret model Selita Ebanks supports the cause too so she kindly posed in a complimentary sitting to help promote the initiative.

This fall you can purchase a pair of African print-inspired Pro-Keds sneakers designed by Dash for your charitable contribution. Six pairs are expected to be released and at press time there were no images available to preview the styles. Speaking of expecting, Dash's wife upscale fashion designer Rachel Roy is due to deliver their second child any day now. After Roy's two appearances on Oprah, surely this babe will be quite the jetsetter as well ending up in Chicago with their photogenic mother the O seems to adore.

For now you can get the bracelet at yoox.com, Jeffrey New York, Colette in Paris, 10 Corso Omo in Milan and Matches in London.

Hopefully no one else will jump on the Brangelina bandwagon and adopt a child from just because of the recent interest from Missoni. Although the adopted child benefits it makes me nauseous that this might actually be a trend. What do you think?

2. Miss Hakim do you really know where you come from? I hope it's not England. Just read, learn and pay attention.Hopefully you will stop labelling yourself poor black in America. Also make plans to visit your ancestory heritage in Africa.

3. I have traced my ancestry and have started a t-shirt site with Adinkra Symbol tees I'm trying to get the word out because every t-shirt I sell will give a portion to Ghana charities. My site is www.cafepress.com/kndredgear or www.kindredgear.com Thank you if we all stick together we can make a
difference.
