Bouncing Back: Ray J's Sister Brandy Lands A New Record Deal

Singer Brandy Norwood is back in the driver's seat and is hoping her new record deal will have her speeding to the top of the charts.

The one-time chart-topper, who was dropped by her former label Atlantic Records in 2004 after dismal sales for her fourth CD, 'Afrodisiac,' has been without a record deal for nearly four years.

BV Buzz has learned exclusively that the former 'Moesha' star is now signed to Epic Records, with plans to rollout a new CD before the year's end.

The 29-year-old singer's career has stalled tremendously since the release of her 2002 CD, 'Full Moon.'

The album was overshadowed by Brandy's abrupt "marriage" to music producer Robert Smith and the announcement of her pregnancy.

Brandy & Robert Smith during MTV's 'Special Delivery'

The couple appeared on a MTV reality show called 'Special Delivery' that showed her preparing for and then giving birth to their daughter, Sy'rai Iman Smith. She even made an appearance on 'Oprah' to talk about her "marriage."

After the two split a short time later, Smith admitted during a radio interview with Wendy Williams that he and Brandy never actually wed and confessed the whole story was fabricated to protect her image.

The McComb, Mississippi-native went on a media tour attempting to explain her previous lie by declaring that her marriage was a "spiritual union" and that she and Smith had a "true commitment to each other." The spin control didn't work!

Quentin Richardson & BrandyA few weeks after the "marriage" racket was revealed, Brandy's then boyfriend, NBA star Quentin Richardson proposed to her and gave her an alleged "diamond ring totaling 11 1/2 carats valued at $1 million."

Brandy had the hoop star's face tattooed on her arm. When the couple split in 2005 amid rumors that singer/actress had began studying Scientology, she had the tattoo turned into a cat.

In June of 2006 it was announced that Brandy would become of judge on the Simon Cowell-produced variety competition, 'America's Got Talent.' The show was a hit for NBC.

TMZ broke news in January 2007 that Brandy was involved in a fatal car crash in December 2006 that killed a 38-year-old woman named Awatef Aboudihaj.

Shortly thereafter, Brandy's involvement with 'America's Got Talent' came to a crashing halt as well, with the show canning the singer and replacing her with Sharon Osborne.

In November of 2007, the one-time CoverGirl spokesmodel was embarrassingly caught lip-syncing during a performance of her song 'Who Is He To You' at Glynn Jackson's 'Sensationnel Hair Idol' competition in Washington, DC. TMZ ran video of the performance on their news magazine series.

A month later, the Los Angles City Attorney's Office decided not to file criminal charges against the singer for the fatal car crash.

While Brandy's career faltered and personal life read like a daytime soap opera, her younger brother Ray J's career began to flourish.

Brandy & Ray JOnce ostracized and written off as just, 'Brandy's little brother,' Ray J's popularity usurped his sister's when he sold a personal sex tape with his former girlfriend, socialite Kim Kardashian to Vivid Entertainment.

The scandalous pornography ironically earned the former child preacher legitimacy among industry types and consumers alike, causing people to now refer to Brandy as: "Ray J's older sister."

Apparently, Brandy is hoping that will all change with her forthcoming CD on Epic Records.

A call to Epic Records to comment on signing Brandy had not been returned at press time.

1. I am glad to see this classy lady back. If you read the details of the accident she really did nothing wrong.

2. I hope that Brandy's album is successful being that she has been away from the music years in 4 years. I feel, when singers take there break and come back into the music scene after so many years should make a good album. I am tire d of artist that take these breaks and come back with the same old sound and nothing has changed when they come back into the music scene? Singers like, Usher. I feel that these singers owe their fans that much! I guess, we shall see what she can do?

6. Brandy:

Proof once and for all that as a Scientologist, you are NOT the only one that can help at the scene of an accident. Often, you are the negligent cause of a fatal one.

Hopefully all of that brainwashing can help set her mind at ease by telling her how non-scientologists aren't that important anyway.

Jeremy at 5:03PM on Apr 9th 2008

7. Why all the negativity bout B? I swear our kind tear us down way more than other races do. Shame...

Yep at 6:17PM on Apr 9th 2008

8. I hope Brandy has a successful comeback, since she's one of probably a handful of females who can actually sing and sound good, and doesn't need all the theatrics to distract from the so-so voice like some of these female singers today.

9. Now if only her brother would just go away!!

11. Welcome back Brandy. you were very well missed.

Lisa at 9:46AM on Apr 10th 2008

12. this should show u that when u are not under the protection of GOD how your life will crumble. scientology has obviously not been the answer! what is her problem that she can not keep a man. at first i thought it was the men but now she has gone over a limb with her non eating of meat or dairy and non Godly beliefs.

Adrian at 9:53AM on Apr 10th 2008

13. Naive as I may sound, I'll grant you that up front:

I've watch Kim Kardashian on her family's TV show, THAT TAPE DAMN NEAR WRECKED THAT GIRLS FAMILY...CAUSE HER OLDER SISTERS AND HER TO BE LABELED SLUTS FOREVER
and now her younger sisters who are mere babes are trippin' thinkin' that's the way to make it in this world...

Granted everyone has made a healthy buck off it and become even more famous...

BUT DAMN, WHATEVER HAPPENED TO TALENT / SKILL / HARD WORK.... NOT THE SEXUAL KIND THAT ANY ANIMAL CAN CAN DO... or are we talking about animals...

When did WHORE MONGERING become the only talent that counts?

Jowanda at 10:23AM on Apr 10th 2008

14. You goooooooooooo Brandy!!! Welcome back young lady, I love all your music.

Desheri at 10:33AM on Apr 10th 2008

15. What is the big deal about brandy and her tired brother? Her voice does not move me, nor does her ghetto attitude, or that of her wannabe a thug brother, running around selling sex tapes of him and that white whore girl,oh please...
