Bobby Brown: Letting it All Hang Out In New Tell-All Memoir

Posted Apr 3rd 2008 10:10PM by Karu F. Daniels
Filed under: Entertainment Newswire

By Karu F. Daniels & Brennan Williams, BlackVoices.com

'They say I'm crazy, I really don't care!' Bobby Brown sang in the first verse of his 1988 hit single 'My Prerogative' ... and boy did he ever live up to the that.

Whether it was his highly-rated reality series 'Being Bobby Brown,' or his longtime position as a staple in celebrity gossip circles, the public has maintained an infatuating love affair with the 39-year-old trouble-prone R&B crooner.

And believe it or not, there's plenty more to explore.

With his latest endeavor, the forthcoming memoir 'Being Bobby Brown: The Truth and Nothing But ...,' Brown let's loose on an array of controversial subjects, dishes dirt on fellow celebs and make startling self revelations.

BlackVoices.com has exclusively obtained an advance copy of the tome, which was written with biographer/publisher Derrick Handspike and will be independently published via Down South Books this spring.

In the scorching page-turner, the former New Edition front-man doesn't only pontificate on his 14-year marriage to Whitney Houston (as all of the mainstream media seem to be harping on) today, he also spoke candidly about his affairs with Janet Jackson and former video vixen Karrine Steffans.

About Jackson, Brown says he never abused alcohol as much as he has until his relationship with the 'Rhythm Nation' singer hit the skids: "I can recall that I started drinking heavily when Janet Jackson and I broke up," he writes. "Before I met Janet I would never drink hard liquor, I only drank beer. But after our break up, I started drinking hard liquor abundantly. I took the way our relationship ended very hard. Not to say we were head over heels in love, but she was someone I had a lot of feelings for. Besides, we were young and naive. I was only about 19 or 20 years old. Young love is no joke!"

On Steffans, who is also known as "Superhead" for her admitted sexual acts, Brown was less diplomatic: "Yes, she was a friend of mine. Yes, I've slept with her. Yes, I've spent several nights at her house," he stated point blank, adding, "but she was only good for what her nickname stood for and nothing else ... she is a terrible mother ...If there is one thing I can't stand, that's a woman who is not a mother to her children. That's a big turn-off to me!"

Ewww.

Steffans, who blew the bed-sheets off of the hip-hop industry exposing her sexual exploits with some of the biggest names in Black Hollywood via two 'New York Times' best-selling memoirs, has spoken on record about her love for Brown ; her latest book, 'The Vixen Diaries,' has a chapter titled "How To Save a Life, Part Two" where she writes "While the rest of the world continued guessing the nature of my relationship with Bobby, I was working hard to help him be happy, healthy and sane."

The 'I Need A Girlfriend' singer thinks otherwise: "To be totally honest, I feel this woman isn't even worth acknowledging," he writes. "I think she is trying to make a quick buck. I also think she needs some psychological help. She has been mentally and emotionally scarred. She needs a hug!"

Wow wee.

That leads to his former wife, whom he does, indeed, admit that she may have married him to dodge rampant rumors of her longtime lesbian relationship with gal pal Robin Crawford.

There are less than six degrees between Steffans and Houston; they both have had tumultuous, tabloid-ready relationships with Brown, and also are or were romantically associated with young R&B stud Ray-J (who Brown refers to as "the little guy" throughout 'Truth').

1. Bobby, do you think we all care about the your book "The Truth, The Whole Truth and Nothing But.....?
Bobby, did you get tips from your girl "Super Head"?It's OLD NEWS and I am sure everybody out there would rather spend their HARD WORKING $$$$$ on something WORTH WHILE!

Your not getting my $$$$$ Bobby, and that's the TRUTH!

2. Why do these grown up men and feel that it is cool to write these tell all books.these people have no principles or moral values. They make a busload of money waste it all and then try to support their habits by divulging private information about people they supposed to have cared about. It is sad.

3. He has to make money somehow to pay child support for all those kids. His ex got him and his family out of her bank account.thanks god.Shut up Bobby Brown.

4. This comment is for Martha woods #3. I think that Bobby has came down to his lowest to sell a tell all "SLEEZY BOOK"! I WILL NOT SUPPORT HIS HABBIT! I am not trying to hear it, that he is doing this to pay child support for all his kids he has! Bobby should have had his S**T TOGETHER!

Before Whitney came into the picture Bobby should have INVESTED HIS MONEY WISELY! He @ZZ wouldn't be broke NOW! In the marriage, of course he was livin off of her money! Come on, a grown @zz man has to do OFF THE WALL REALITY SHOWS and SLEZZY BOOKS to make some CHEDDAR to SUPPORT HIM AND HIS KIDS? There are other ways to make money in a GOOD and INTELLIGENT WAY! He's how old? He should be on the next level of MATURITY and STABILTY! It goes to show you Bobby hasn't grown up yet and has a long way to go!

What he need to be doing is instead of putting himself in the "SPOTLIGHT" is to put his CHILDREN in the "SPOTLIGHT" and help making ALL OF THEM SHINE!

Again, Bobby ain't gettin my SUPPORT or $$$$$ and

THAT'S THE TRUTH!

5. ( I AM TRYING TO POST AND ITS NOT SHOWING UP. IF IT REPEATS THAT IS WHY. SORRY.)

I would definately buy his book next month as well as alot of other people. I do not have any animosity towards this man because there is really no need for it. There is always two sides to a story and if he wants to tell his side, then fine. This book may very well be a way for Bobby to release his inner demons and heal his soul. People do it in many different ways. Whatever works for them, works for them. I never believed that Bobby started whitney on drugs but the other way around. Whitney is no angel. May have "had" the voice of one but that didn't make her one. I say kudos to Bobby for releasing his inner pain and starting on the path of healing in the manner "he" deem fit. Good Luck Bobby and I send you blessings. For EVERYONE deserves THAT!

6. There is nothing worse than people exploiting each other after a breakup. Bobby and Whitney and the others need to step back and think about what is best for the children, they are going to grow up one day and they both need to be careful what they say and what they exploit to others.Pray and ask God for direction first.

7. Timefor Unity you couldn't have said it better. If this will help Mr. Brown I will buy his book also. We tend to hate on each other at any given opportunity and thats the shame of this thing. Stop putting blame if you weren't there to be part of their problems. Give hope a chance.

8. First, I have to see it in order to believe it! If he is willingly to do right and be TRUE to himself, to "GOD", and others, then I will give him CREDIT!

I think the people that commented on here don't hate Bobby as an individual but are disappointed and expected him of doing better? We all make mistakes and deserve a second chance in life. Hopefully Bobby has learned and moved on to be a better person. Best wishes to Bobby and Family! Be patient and allow things work itself out the way "God" wants it to be and you he will be fine!

9. bobby brown, bobby brown, bobby brown. he so broke now and now he needs the cash topay his bills including his child support. but you can't really fault a man for trying to feed his family. i refuse to buy his book or even to buy into it. bobby is responsible for his own downfall just like whitney is responsible for hers.both were absolutely nuts to engage in their drug filled cravings.they have both ruined their lives and the lives of their children who are the real victims.perhaps there are some truths to what bobby says in his book but that does not excuse his sorry behavior and the sorry behavior of his wife.everyone knew from the beginning that their marriage were doomed for trouble and failure.i dont feel sorry for neither of them but their children.i truly hope that both bobby and whitney take control of their lives, seek professional help, get delivered, and change their very destructive behavior and lifestyle.it sad that it has come to this after such a very brilliant career for the both of them.bobby brown's book may not be able to revive his once brilliant career but i hope that his book is a sincere attempt to shed light on the dark truth of his destructive ways and brings him some sort of closure of his dark path and lead him to the true light of life and not just a scandalous attempt to make money to feed his demonic drug habit. big mike miller from the bronx.

LORRAINE at 9:52PM on Apr 4th 2008

12. I would like to know how all of you people know that Bobby B has a drug problem. I mean when I see him he looks like he may drink too much and maybe smoke some weed but I have never seen him look "cracked out". Now Whitney on the other hand that's another story. Bobby has always looked healthy, even fat. His wife on the other has looked like a walking skeleton. Just cause she looks like the poster child for crack doesn't mean he does too. Did you ever think that maybe she was addicted to something before she got with him. Cause if she was Ms. Sophisticated Diva like most of you want to believe then she would have never gotten with bad Bobby B in the first place. I hate to have to burst your bubbles but Whitney has always been ghetto. She just kept up a front. Remember her brother. Uh-huh.

shay at 2:26AM on Apr 5th 2008

13. Don't hate on Bobby! I mean come on...anybody with any inkling of the entertainment business could see a "tell-all" book coming a mile away. Yes, Bobby's star faded years ago, but that still doesn't mean that he's ready to give up the spot light, or the way of life that he has become accustumed too. As far as folks "not" buying his book...I heard similiar statements about how people weren't going to tune into his reality series. "Being Bobby Brown", was one of the most successful series that Bravo tv has had. If Whitney and Bobby were still together and doing the show, folks would still be watchin' going, "Oh now he didn't...Hell-to-the-naw". Sell yo' book bro'...Ain't no shame!!!

Keep it real, Unfortunately black people are carrying the crab in the barrell mentality. Instead of supporting one another they tear down. Instead of looking inside of a person they prefer the surface. Now there are some of our people that are just downright evil and don't need or deserve our respect.

Bobby Brown is not one of these downright evil people. He got caught up in the ills of life as any one of us could. If you notice on the Bravo show, the one that was doing the drug smoking was whitney. Bobby was the drinker. Whitney was the drug user. Do not tell me that you could not tell she was locked in the room getting high. Coming out of the room looking all bugged out and couldn't talk. I do believe that Bobby will pull it together and if he is smart he would not listen to ONE negative comment about him and let those who do not know the real him take him off his path of healing. I will support my black brothers and sisters for we are a lost nation and only unity will strengthen us as a people. I belong to the Nation of Islam and proud to be there for we are of love, peace, and unity. Freedom, Justice, and Equality. More of our people should take the time to open their minds, ears, hearts, and souls to the Nation. Then you will understand who you are as people.
