Frankly Speaking: Kelly Rowland Addresses Haters While Performing In England

Posted Apr 1st 2008 7:11AM by Jawn Murray
Filed under: BV Buzz

By Jawn Murray, BlackVoices.com

"They said I couldn't do it solo!" – said Destiny's Child singer Kelly Rowland while performing at the 'BBC 1Xtra Live' festival in England recently.

Rowland, 27, performed a medley of Destiny's Child songs, including 'Say My Name,' 'Independent Women' and 'Survivor.'

The Houston-bred singer, who recently admitted in an interview with People magazine that she had a breast augmentation, has digitally re-released her sophomore solo opus 'Ms. Kelly.'

The set, titled 'Ms. Kelly: Deluxe Edition,' features a cover of the Bobby Womack song 'Daylight.'

1. Oh Kelly thinks just because she had the Breast Implants, now she has the confidence NOW to SING & PERFORM BY HERSELF? Kelly, was it NECESSARY to ADRESS that CROWD at that PERFORMANCE? You shouldn't let anybody BRING YOU DOWN! That's wha's wrong, YOU worry about what other people think! Kelly, is the OUTER YOU MORE IMPORTANT THAT THE "INNER" YOU THAT COMES FROM THE HEART! Do you really think becuase of this UNECESSARY BREAST ENHANCEMENT will "BOOB" UP MUSIC SALES FOR YOU? & GET EXPOSED MEDIA ATTENTION?

Do you really think you are going to get the same ATTENTION like your CUZ "B"?

You looked beautiful before you had this done! I don't understand, why you said,
"Now, I Feel Complete"? This is what's wrong with beautiful women, they have LOW-SELF ESTEEM and feel that other people are doing it they should too, to make themselves BETTER AND ACCEPTABLE TO SOCIETY!

Kelly, you are talented singer but, you should have CONCENTRATED on MAKING YOUR NEXT ALBUM A SUCCESS ( (because your other album sales wasn't where it should be), and PRAY TO GOD AND ASK HIM WHAT ARE THE THINGS YOU NEDD TO DO TO MAKE YOURSELF COMPLETE AS WOMEN ON THE "INSIDE"!

"God" gave us all WOMEN, a BEAUTIFUL BODY! Why MAKE CHANGES of what "God" CREATED?

2. Kelly, what message are you sending young girls that look up to you as a ROLE MODEL & LOVE YOUR MUSIC? That, it's Ok to get BREAST IMPLANTS AND IT IS THE WAY TO GO,so that you can be ACCEPTED BY SOCIETY & FIT IN?

3. She didn't really sing...she let the background singers sing. She is a beautiful girl; I hope she finds her niche outside of the Beyonce Shadow.

4. Weeeellll, I can't say Kelly really did anything out of character during that performance. She sang a few lines and tried to pump up the crowd, that's about it. Wasn't that her role in Destiny's Child? This performance clearly shows that Beyonce has the "it" factor and the other two are sort of second-tier. I'd love for Kelly to have big success, but she probably needs to go in a completely different direction than Destiny's Child-esque songs. Kelly doesn't need anyone conjuring up Beyonce comparisons because she will never win that battle.

5. Very very boring, to say the least. In the words of Simon Cowell..(Brit accent)...."I thought it absolutely dreadful"

truthfulheart at 1:38PM on Apr 1st 2008

6. Kelly is a beautiful, intelligent, and independent woman who can do anything that Beyonce can do. She is truly bomb material. adg

7. She's way better than Beyonce & finally making a name for herself as a solo artist. What has her breast enhancement got to do with her singing? Please. She's finally getting the recognition she deserves. Some of ya'lls comments are retarded

8. I think Kelly has a beautiful voice and just needs to step outside the Destiny's Child box, find herself and market that. I thought she was really going to do it when she sang the little song with Nelly some years back. She was very different in that and I think she needs to stop listening to all the haters and just find "Kelly". All that jumping up and down on stage, bumping and grinding, swinging the hair weave....not necessary. Personally I think Byonce is over rated. Yeah, she can dance and puts on a great show, but I hate to hear anything but a song come out of her mouth. She sounds like she's about as dumb as a brick. As far as the breast implants, I wish I had the nerve, I could use a little up there myself. I say more power to Kelly! She looks beautiful and at 27, she should look HOT.

9. To answer your question fsdfds #7.

In my opinion,Kelly is using her Breast Implants to show the world to get her singing career where it needs to be. As you look back on the past year, "Kelly" had maybe 1 or 2 hits of her album it wasn't all that great of an album. My opinion. Audience and media was not SATTISFIED with her singing or her performances, and possibly her appearance. Not saying there was anything wrong before her surgery. She's beautiful.

Her self-esteem was down and she even said on a BV article, that "Now she feels complete". Instead of her feeling insecure about her appearance, she should have been working on her inner self, working on a better album, and giving the FANS what they want. She in my opinion, thought by getting breast implants would boost her sales and attract a larger audience. Because you know, she was having a hard time in the past getting a large audience for her concerts.

She just needs to separate her singing and dance style from "Destiny's Child". She made that comment at a concert to the crowd and said; "They said I couldn't do it solo!". She said this after her surgery. In my opinion, I felt that she did this to get the attention because, she was always called the background singer or second lead singer.

10. i wish i had her body. i hope she does well...she deserves it...

i hope they all do well....including Solange..

11. When a group breaks up everyone does not make it big. The group is better than the individual. For every song that was a hit for Beyonce two to three other songs were WHACKED. Some of Beyonce's experiments stay experiments. Kelly will always be Tito. She will never be in demand like Beyonce or the group. The teeney bopper hit with Nelly was nice and that's about it. But as a man I can tell you that I can feel the edges of the implants. And it enters the mind of what you are feeling. It doesn't stop anything but being cautious helps. Regular breast you can torque them all around and think nothing of it. I say you have to be a little cautious with the implants. I worked Plastic and General Surgery so I might be a little sensitive. I put the real ones thru a course. That group was together for so long that Kelly acts and behaves just like Beyonce. I thought she was hot in the group. She had spunk. Seeing her solo is really different. I wish her the best in her career. And no disrespect intended to any female on the torquage statement(I don't discriminate BETWEEN THE TWO).

12. Kelly you can sing but,you are not Beyonce and sadly for you nobody really cares. You should not attempt the same genre as B either. I think you should put on a evening gown and sing ballads like whitney and Mariah, it just might work for you. Oh and you can act a little bit, you got B beat in that area definately, so do what you can do but make it yours.

Kay at 8:11AM on Apr 2nd 2008

13. umm....this was outta control....can she PLZ just get ou t the business while she's ahead...wait....shes not the only time she was WAS when she was with D.C...hahahaha

14. white people created beyonce

gmagic at 9:49AM on Apr 2nd 2008

15. I watched that video of Kelly and it think it was just bad. She was not really singing she was talking the lyrics. The back up singers sounded better than she did. I give her prompts for trying though. She is trying to be like Beyonce and that will never happen. She tried to sing and act like B that is why she got the breast implants which she did not need. Because they are not real now. I think she is a beautiful woman and she do not need to be something she is not. She needs to be real. She did not have to address the audience about people said she would not make it. They did not go there for that and that is not what they paid for. I think she should try acting or doing a differenct kind of song and stop trying to be like B and be your own self. The back up singers should have been up front and just made them her group.
