First Look At Mariah Carey's New Film - Tennessee

Posted Mar 29th 2008 11:30AM by Wilson Morales
Filed under: It's All Reel

In her first film since she did 'WiseGirls' back in 2002, Mariah Carey will have a prominent role in an independent drama produced by Lee Daniels (Monster¹s Ball, The Woodsman, Shadowboxer) called 'Tennessee'.

Two brothers, Carter (Adam Rothenberg) and Ellis (Ethan Peck), embark on a journey from New Mexico to find their estranged father in the hopes of saving Ellis, who has been diagnosed with terminal leukemia. Along the way they meet Krystal (Mariah Carey), an aspiring country singer, who becomes the brothers' guardian angel and joins them on their fateful road trip.

Directed by Aaron Woodley, the film also stars Lance Reddick of HBO's The Wire, and Damon Dash serves as one of the executive producers.

Carey will perform a tune, co-written with country legend Willie Nelson, in the flick while also singing an a-cappella version of Nelson's 'Help Me Make It Through the Night.'

While Carey's movie resume is overshadowed by the disappointing 2001 film Glitter, Daniels got the idea to cast her after watching her Grammy-winning album "The Emancipation of Mimi" become the biggest selling disc of 2005 and viewing her work in 2002's WiseGirls.

'Tennessee' will be premiering at The Tribeca Film Festival on Apr 26 at 6:00PM,, with subsequent showings on Apr 27, 6:15PM, Wed, Apr 30, 3:00PM, Thu, May 01, 10:30PM, and Sat, May 03, 8:30PM

1. Miraih, I hope you sharpened your ACTING SKILLS? What a FLOP your last flick, 2001 "Glitter"! Miraih, please stick to your day job! You are my favorite singer!

2. Before you insult someone, you should at least get the name right. You may think Mariah cant act but you cant spell.

ericka at 2:18AM on Mar 30th 2008

3. Wisegirls was actually a good movie, and Glitter wasn't half as bad as most of the crap that is out there!

Yolanda at 6:32AM on Mar 30th 2008

4. Ok A) "dimepiece" if shes your favorite singer learn how to spell her name! and you're obviously not a fan or you would have known that Glitter wasn't her last film. and B) I loved Glitter I don't see why people were so hard on her. And WiseGirls was a really good movie also.

Porsche at 10:39AM on Mar 30th 2008

5. Her perfomance in WiseGirls was really good. I can't wait for Tennesse. I really would like to see her in a comedy. And Glitter was alright. I think the movie itself was bad and there was a lot of bad acting going around in that movie, not just Mariah.

I never said, that was her last FILM she made? Come on now, it seems that you need to READ things CAREFULLY before CRITICIZING other PEOPLE up on HERE!

"DimePiece" at 8:35AM on Mar 31st 2008

8. Sorry, "Porshe" #3. My bad, I did say that it was her last flick. I meant to say, I didn't see "Wise Girls", so "Glitter" was the last flick I SAW! I am a fan but I don't have to like every film she plays in!

BUY DVD - Glitter (2001)

Also starring Max Beesley and Ann Magnuson, and featuring sensational performances from music superstars.

BUY DVD - Wisegirls (2002)

BUY DVD - State Property II (2005)
STATE PROPERTY 2 is the tale of three notorious gangsters, and their bloody battle for supremacy in the City of Brotherly Love. Beans, the imprisoned kingpin and hometown druglord, struggles to keep his renegade ABM Crime Syndicate on the map. He is driven and consumed by a festering hatred for his longtime rival... Dame, the Harlem-born hustler, is also the top dog in town. His Umbrella network is unmatched in cash-flow and manpower. With a long list of enemies seeking territory and revenge, the self-proclaimed 'cake-aholic' is forced into a vicious war. Loco, the flashy Miami playboy, is about to be released from prison. His deep pockets and stellar reputation prove to be valuable tools in Loco's plot to takeover the streets of Philly... but he must first overcome the ghosts from a turbulent past. Alliances are formed and shattered, and lifelong friendships are put to the test as the various crews deal and duel to the death. Somewhere, buried deep within the ranks of one of these gangs, a ruthless criminal mastermind is conspiring to take them all down. The backstabbing, thievery and deception simmers, boils and ultimately spills into a gruesome finale - an old-fashioned shootout on the cold, unforgiving Philly streets.

10. This comment is for Porsche #4. I guess "dparker" #9 told you! If you are such a fan, then you would have known, that "Wisegirls" wans't the last flick she starred in. "BUSTED"!

"Busted" at 12:19PM on Apr 1st 2008

11. Mariah, "What's up with dem cornrolls in yo head"?
Yo hair is looking "Crazy" in that pic, Ma! Please stick to da styles ya know!

"No Mo Acting Please"! at 12:27PM on Apr 1st 2008

12. People.. if you don't have something nice to say, shut the hell up. Yes, Glitter did not do as well as Mariah would have hoped and no, it is not her last movie ever. Why does everyone come down so hard on Mariah for Glitter when Jennifer Lopez was in Gigli (spelled wrong probably)! So, before you are so quick to judge take into account that Mariah is not the only one who's ever been in a bad movie. Denzel Washington and Halle Berry have been in a few and they have Oscars.

Also, please continue hating on MC. Mariah is doing big things right now and even Katt Williams said something to the effect of if you don't have haters, you're not doing something right. So, I personally offer my suppirt to Mariah. I'm sure this movie will be great.

Yung Mimi at 1:54PM on Apr 1st 2008

13. Actually Busted Mariah did not STAR in State property II she just had a cameo in it. The last film she helmed was Glitter. She co starred in Wisegirls with that chick who played Romy from Romy and Michelle's High school Reunion. But whatever who cares right? I not a fan for negative energy as it can cause sickness. So I will just say this: she is an allright actress and I hope she does a great job.

Denzel at 2:15PM on Apr 1st 2008

14. Denzel #13 here you go,STAR, APPEAR, MADE CAMEO, "SAME THING"! I'm sorry, let me rephrase my words for you; "Mariah", made a cameo in "Wisegirls" but, had other movies she played role in". Does that sound better?

PLEASE, STOP BEING SO "CRITICAL" LIKE THE REST!
BE YOURSELF! IT'S ALL IN FUN AND I'M SURE NO ONE UP HERE IS TALKING ABOUT MARIAH OUT OF "HATRED"!

HAVE A NICE DAY!

"Busted" at 2:55PM on Apr 1st 2008

15. You know Yung Mimi #. Not everyone is cut out for FILM! Some can crossover from singer/actor or vise versa! You are disrespectful of telling people to "Shut the **** up" just because they don't AGREE WITH YOU! People have the right to VOICE their own OPINION! You don't know me, or anybody up on here, MI? I like Mariah because of her talents in "SINGING ONLY"!

It's great you are ALL THE WAY SUPPORTER for MARIAH in her singing and AWLFUL acting as well. Not mad at you on that but "CHILL OUT ON THE COMMENTS YOU MAKE OF PEOPLE YOU DON'T KNOW"! HAVE SOME RESPECT!
