1.
You sound outraged. Why?

Did you really expect for the elite of black society and Trinity Church to back their spiritual leader?

They have been living well-to-do lives and snubbing up and coming for so long that they have learned the ways of their world well. Trouble or scandal, until cleared up, without their intervention, is not to be addressed. They pick up their skirts so that the dirt and backsplash does not effect them or their standing in the community.

The elite members should be treated the same way, guys are to be treated when they are trying to get the number of a girl previously snubbed until she lost the excess weight or got a breast implant, without respect or acknowledgement.

I am not big on forgiveness of those that should know better and do better, because to those that much is given, much is expected.

2.
sorry about the post, not being check for grammar and spelling booboos.

I gets a little hot sometimes.

The man may have said some inappropriate things at inappropriate times, but who amongst us has not?

To be left out there alone, without your "family" must be difficult.

I did not vote for Bill Clinton, because I did not like his smile. I did, however, back him over the Lewinsky thing, because it was none of our business and the hypocrits on the hill went after him.

They will rue the moment they brought race into the "race".

Ann at 8:10AM on Mar 28th 2008

3. Back the Rev. for what? Spewing hatred and divisive rhetoric? I simply cannot understand how what this man said about our country is ok with the AA community. I certainly don't condone the kkk's message just because they are the same color as I am. Hate is hate, there is no justification.

Don at 8:48AM on Mar 28th 2008

4. If you are a tried and true black man then you know that some of what Rev. J. Wright expressed is ripe with the truth and many of us agree but won't do so publicly . Because the majority of black people still live on the plantation they don't dare support or let it be known that they support reverend Wright. He voiced his opinions and views which the laws of this country protect. But to say that this man preaches hate is a stretch. America has never done right by the Jim Crow black man and never will. Any Jim Crow black man or woman that's not angry is not alive and no more than walking dead. There are many black apologist that continue to cow tow and genuflect for the master while condemning those that fight for change and equality.

CJ at 3:22AM on Mar 29th 2008

5. So it's okay to have a "black community" does that mean it's okay to have a "white community" or is one racist while the other is not? If someone says something ignorant and inappropriate, it is the community's duty to stand against that person, not for it just because we share the same color.

Jerome at 4:39AM on Mar 29th 2008

6. As a man of the Christian word, Pastor Wright's message is that of a Pharisee and a man of the World.
While he certaintly does have the right under the Consitution and our U.S law to say what he does,as one who claims Christ as his Lord and Savior, he is preachimg messages and a theology not in accordnace with Jesus on commandments. Do not be fooled, read the word for your self and do not let him or others influence your opinions. His message preaches exclusion, racism, hate and fear. I would encourge all who see this to read the New Testiment and see if what his message, his Church's mission statment and his actions are in line with the New Testament; or is he a wolf in sheeps clothing. The Bible says that in the end times even the elect will be deceived.

Frankiln Roach at 6:40AM on Mar 29th 2008

7. While some of Rev. White's comments may be offensive to some White people, I don't think that there is anything that he said that was and is not truthful. The Rev's most serious indiscretions seem to be his statements about the government having invented AIDS to eliminate Blacks, Gays and other "unfavorable" minorities. Well, let's look at that.

The United States purposely infected Black men in Tuskegee Alabama with syphillis, didn't tell them that they had the disease and left them untreated for decades in order to study the effects of the disease on human beings. The US Army developed LSD as a truth serum to be used on captured spys during covert intelligence activities. The US gave blankets infected with small pox in order to decimate the Sioux and thereby ease western expansionism. These are just a few examples of the kinds of nefarious activities that the United States have perpetuated over the years.

I saw the report that the Rev is referring to in the early 80's. It is unsubstantiated and may be an urban myth. But given US history, is it so far fetched to believe that the United States is capable of such an act?

How about Rev. Wright's purported statement that The US had a role in causing the 9/11 attacks.

Well, the US like other western powers (Europeans) have been exploiting the Middle East and other Third World regions for centuries. Osama Bin Laden himself cited the US participation in the destruction of Beruit as his rashionale for iniating the attacks. The Western powers are so arrogant that they can not concieve that Third World people might retailiate for attrocites committed in the name of economic imperialism.

While I too am pissed off that Osama chose to attack my beloved New York,do not condone these actions, and believe that he must answer for them, I can understand the reasons for the attacks.

The Western powers simply cannot unillaterally express it's will any longer without retailiation by the people they are exploiting. The old ways simply will not work any more. A new paradymn for inter-cooperation must be established if globalization is to be sucessful.

Finally, The Rev's statement "G-D damn America" is not a personal wish statement, but a religious belief that G-d will truly damn us if we continue on this road of international economic and military explotation in the name of national self-interest.

Right-wing pundits have excoriated Obama over his use of the word "typical" in describing White folks and at the same time have demonized Rev. Wright for being "out of the mainstream." If you are in the "mainstream" you must be typical. White folks still comprose the dominate culture in American society. You can't have it both ways.

They also put up folks like Condeleeza Rice as examples of what Blacks folks should aspire too. We should all tow the line, behave like them and be "good Negroes." Like it or not, Blacks folks are still discriminated against in the this country, by the corporate community and by the police to name a few. Black people still need folks who will champion us. We still need the Al Sharptons and the Jessie Jacksons to come to our aim when the culture acts against us. For all of her power and accomplishments I fail to see what Condi has specifically done for Black people.

Rev. Wright has been called a racist. I defy anyone to come up with a specific instance where the reverend has said or done anything that excludes, disenfrancises, physically harms or threatens White folks because of their race.

Reverend Wright has been called a Black Separatist. I defy anyone to come up with a specific instance wher the reverend has done or said anything that advocates the separation of the races.

What Reverend Wright advocates is racial pride, self-sufficiency and self-determination. Black folks still need this and there is nothing wrong with it.

I am saddened that Barack Obama feels compelled to distance himself from and to disavow his spiritual mentor, although given the stakes involved in his seeking the Presidency I truly understand it.

I am new to Reverend Wright but for me he is an example of someone that should be venerated, not demonized or excorriated.

To paraphrase Jack Nickelson - White people can't handle the truth.

8. Frank Roach thank you for your post. You covered everything and more that I wanted to say. I remember thinking when 911 happened almost the same thing that Rev. Wright spoke in his sermon. I was truly sorry for the families that had lost loved ones because of America's greed and lack of respect for other countries and culture. I was wondering at that time if anyone had felt the same way that I did. I felt that it was just a matter of time before something devastating was going to happen in this country. It's amazing to me that as long as we are in "bed" with folks and they are being used by us, everything is okay. The moment that our strange bedfellows are of no immediate use or profit to us, then we say they are our enemies. How can we go into someone else's house and tell them how we want things to go, especially when we can't keep our own house in order.

In the year of 2000, my youngest son was preparing to graduate from high school and enter college that summer. I didn't know how we were going to foot the bill for his college expenses. I remember the recruitment officers from the Army and Marine Corps talking to him. I told my son to please not make a decision until we see who gets in office that November. I told him that if Bush got in that we were certainly going to war. That was so deep in my spirit. That is one time that I wish my feelings were wrong, as you can see, we are still in war. And to hear McCain tell it, we will be there for the next 100 years. That means that we will be there until my future great-grandchildren are well into their 50's or 60's.

When will America see the error of her ways? God has favored America in the past and still continues to do so. How much longer do we think that we are going to have the favor of God if we continue on with our wicked ways?

10. Excuse me, I made a boo boo. I meant to say thank you to Native Son. I didn't realize that the names are put on at the end. I have to really get my new glasse. As for you Franklin Roach, do you want me to read the same bible that folks had used to keep slavery going on in these United States of America? Well, I actually do. Those of us who do take the time to read the bible know that you can put any kind of spin on it. What folks should do is to ask God for the gift of discernment, to fully understand what it is that God would have each individual to get out of it. Before folks want to go off the deep end in regard to Rev. Wright, I believe that I recall when folks wanted to stone the woman for committing adultery that Jesus said let he who is without sin cast the stones. Now, if memory serves me right, only Jesus was without sin. Rev. Wright did not lie, more than I can say for quite a few ministers on tv. Do folks realize that this sermon, I believe was done back in 2001.

Cynthia, you go girl!
Melinda, get a grip sweetie.

As a Black Dominican in America, I can understand and I have been in the same shoes as the Rev. Wright. I commend him for taking the stance that he took and do believe that if we would stop sugar coating situations, we would have the tenacity to stand up and speak truths. God bless all of my strong brothers and sisters who are not to afraid to support the Rev. Wright.
Vote for Obama and let the United States and the world know that we are not a divided people but a people of strong determination, stature, poise and confidence.

13. Without all this ado, continuous going on's, etc it just seems funny that for all of these years if this is what the man(Rev.Wright) was espousing in his church that it was never brought to the front, i.e. media's attention and no one seemingly gave a damn. Now that Obama is running for the presidency of the United States of America, they have gone back in time to every known place this man has ever stepped his feet trying to dig up whatever they can. It really does surprise me however that at such a time as this, this man (Rev. Wright) would chose now to espouse this kind of message. I believe that politically he is smarter than that. There seems to be a touch of: et tu Brute here? And although he and the likes of Jessie and AL are not trying to physically become like the assassins who murdered Juilus Caesar in the Senate, their very absence of voice(Jessie & AL) in some way echoes that historical saying, "et tu brute which took place centuries ago, the very absence of their voices (Jessie/AL)In some way echoes that historical saying. And, according to Christian scripture that Judas sold G'd's elected messenger down the drain for thiry pieces of silver, that today there are people who are willing to pay much much more to crucify this man Obama before he is even hung on a cross. In closing I know that there are still people willing to make excuses for Jessie and rationalize matters insofar as Jessie and AL are concern. However, those of us who have been around know that by now if they weren' t hanging from strings, they,Jessie and AL,would be the most vociferous and obstreperous voices heard in this election campaign. So lets give them the benefit in this situation which is perhaps is they both have messed up so badly that they wouldn' t even be an asset to his (Obama) other wise clean campaign. How's that for a compromise community?

14. what we really need to do is look at all the drugs that come into this country and sold to our young people by our young people that puts so many of our people in the prisons, white folks dont do that, we do it our selfs and then get into gangs so we can kill more of our future. look inside and quit trying to blame everything on someone else. that way we will have a whole lot better world.i live where we blame the white man for buying up all our property and making town houses apts. and things we cant afford, but they couldnt get the land if we hadnt sold it to him
