Remy Ma: Found Guilty

Remy MaThe gavel seems to be coming down hard on rappers – well at least some of them.

Today, Grammy Award nominated rapstress Remy Ma was convicted for shooting a woman outside of a trendy Manhattan pizza eatery last summer.

According to published reports, Remy Ma (real name: Reminisce Smith) was led out of a Manhattan courtroom, weeping and in handcuffs.

The 26-year old former Terror Squad front-woman could face up to 25 years in prison following her conviction in state Supreme Court for assault, weapon possession and attempted coercion.

The Associated Press reports that the brazen Bronx native "quietly wiped away tears as the verdict was read, then wailed loudly and sobbed openly after she was outside the courtroom."

Many of her supporters also reportedly cried.

Justice Rena Uviller ordered Remy Ma jailed without bail while awaiting her April 23 sentencing.

Though the 'Lean Back' diva didn't beat the main charges, she was acquitted of witness tampering and gang assault -- charges related to a Bronx nightclub altercation with the boyfriend of a witness who ultimately testified against her.

This whole messy legal ordeal stemmed from the July 14, 2007 shooting of Makeda Barnes Joseph, whom Remy shot in her car after demanding that she dump her purse.

The defense had conceded that the entertainer fired a shot toward a friend she suspected of stealing $3,000, but said it was an accident.

I know street people and street mentality but is your freedom worth $3,000?

Speak the truth and shame the devil.

2. lol @ her needing to suck it up because she is a gangsta. I just found out about this story a couple of days ago. Last I heard, Makeda was suppose to be her gf or some mess. Who knows. Well, Rema, may God be with you while you're locked up!

4. You might be a rapper, but who gave you the right to almost kill somebody over money? Remy Ma, you could have endangered any by stander outside that establishment. What were you thinking? By your action, this sends a negative message to our young youth about GUN VIOLENCE!

These rappers and people that are in the business, that don't care, and do these crimes aren't good role models for our young youth! Remy Ma, ya should have known better and now ya behind might have to do the time for that crime! Hopefully, this will teach her a lesson!

7. Another crazy rapper in the news . Rap is the worst thing to happen to our young black people . Thanks Rem for showing what being a gangster rapper lead to . The worst thing is that I feel sorry for you . 26 years old and highly mislead . Rap lead to destruction . It promote black on black crime to the fullest .

Veedub at 8:04PM on Mar 27th 2008

8. Wow Remy, how could you cry after the verdict? You gangsta and we all know thugs don't cry. LMAO, yeah right! DUMMY! Look at you, you started believing what you were rapping about. SMH, just a damn shame. I don't respect you not one bit. Not because you cried, but because your type is setting terrible examples for our youth. When people think of our race, bummy low class broads like you are what come to their minds. Well hey, at least you get matching bling out the deal. Ankle an wrist.

9. It's time to bring back the 'yo little brother' song. Maybe Diddy could do it over, which he's good at.

alexis at 10:21PM on Mar 27th 2008

10. I guess she can write some more raps in her cell block.

11. This is what happens when you can't elevate yourself above a hood Mentality. Remy made it out the ghetto, but still felt like she had to keep it gully for street cred. When she should have been focus on being a good mother, and trying to set a good example for her child. Now this poor child will be without his mother probably for the next ten years. Just foolish. Remy could have had it all. Look how far Mary j Belige
has come. Maybe this will be a lesson learned for Remy.

12. LMAOOOOOOO@MSLADY#8, U SOUND LIKE YOU'VE BEEN ROAMING ALL THRU MY HEAD, BUT IN ADDITION TO YOUR COMMENT THO..."THROW THE BOOK AT THAT HO", I BET SHE LEARN NOW AND ANY OTHER IGNANT RAPPER THAT COMMITS CRIME THEN WANNA CRY AFTERWARDS..SMDH!

TRUTH at 6:55AM on Mar 28th 2008

13. The fact that she had $3000 and was hanging out at-or in front of- a pizza parlor, is hilarious to me. And the fact that she accuses her 'friend' of stealing her money and 'accidentally' shoots her is even more hilarious...I wonder if she will get the full extent of her sentence..thats an extremely long time. Wow...thats a shame

15. WoW!!!! Remy I hope things work out for you. You have to use better judgement in the future because you're a mom. Think about your son.
