Tiger Woods Goes to the Moon for Gatorade

Posted Mar 24th 2008 10:00AM by Quibian Salazar-Moreno
Filed under: Casually Obsessed

Over the weekend, Tiger Woods launched a new ad campaign with Gatorade to promote his new drink, Gatorade Tiger. His signature drink is now available in three flavors - Red Drive (Cherry blend), Cool Fusion (Citrus blend) and Quiet Storm (Grape blend) – and contains 25% more electrolytes for advanced hydration.

"I've experienced a lot of amazing moments in my golf career, but Gatorade Tiger is taking me someplace I never imagined with this campaign," Tiger said. "I'm really excited about how this launch has come together because it brings to life that I'm always thinking about taking my game to the next level."

In his first commercial for the drink, Tiger jumps in a space suit, hops to the moon, pulls out a golf ball and club and hits a line drive towards Mars. Gatorade also announced that they're doing some sort of "out of this world" contest, but won't say what they're giving away. Maybe it's a trip to the moon with Tiger? It's not like he can't afford it. Check out the commercial here:

1. Wow....

Quida at 3:43PM on Mar 24th 2008

2. And why do we care about Tiger Woods? He's done WHAT for the Black community? He self identifies as Asian & is married to a white nanny/model. Leave the Tiger stories to AsiaWeek.

Thank you.

3. another hater, why, do black or white people hate, when someone do something good for themselves. i'm glad, people could come up, and be pride to live better than others. i'm still trying to succeed, but, i guess, my timing ain't right to get started. so, stop your whinning and grow up, and be somebody to.
you haters lost in your own little silly world and you can't seem to realize true success. get a business
and get vrich or die trying, you suckers.

6. Too many haters in this planet...Tiger Woods is one of the first black golfers here and he now has a Gatorade drink endorsed with his name on it. Go Tiger and do your thing!!!

7. Some need to understand that if another poster's opinion differs from yours it's called dissenting. Why should we have an Borg mentality on these kinds of subjects? We are unique individuals all different in our look, what we like to shop for, and how we choose to live our lives. We don't always agree on the contexts of celebrity blogs and should not be viewed as "hating" because we elect to voice opinions that are opposite of others.

I totally agree with Aleach. My husband loves to watch Tiger anytime he's on TV because he knows Tiger is probably the best at the game of golf. I will agree with that statement but I leave the room when Tiger is on. What contribution has Tiger made to the african american community? Please understand I am not just talking about money, what about his TIME?

He comes across like he's ashamed of his black roots, marries a white woman and continues his life as a white man with black skin. There are plenty bi-racial african american celebrities that marry white or Latinos and don't disown the part that's black.
Tiger Woods never took ownership in the first place.

8. Tiger, you are awesome! I am Black and proud of you for your accomplishments. Tiger is a fine young man who married the woman he loves.

The only Black issue here is what happens when a Black man takes responsibility for his son and is fully engaged in his life...greatness every time.

9. Some of us are quick to talk about what celebs are doing and not doing. To my knowledge Tiger has a great program with Target that gives back to the community. Some celebs work behind the scenes and don't march around with signs saying, "Look at me and see what I'm doing".

DebraM at 3:16PM on Mar 25th 2008

10. I agree with DebraM,so many of us are asking what has he (Tiger) done for the black community without even bothering to find out what he is all about. As for who Tiger decides to marry is totally his business!

Gil at 3:44PM on Mar 25th 2008

11. I DON'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT TIGER WOODS I HAVE YET TO HEAR HIM SAY HE IS EVEN BLACK. HE ACTS, TALKS, AND FUC*KS WHITE PEOPLE. SO WHY WOULD I CARE ABOUT HIS CONFUSED AZZ. HIM AND HIS GATORADE NEEDS TO GO TO THE MOON AND NEVER COME BACK!

SOME OF U SOUND STUPID! at 5:04PM on Mar 25th 2008

12. I am very happy for Tiger Woods as a member of the human race. It matters not whether he is Black, Brown, Yellow, White or Red. He is using his blessed talents to better himself and contribute to society the best way he knows how. The hate mongers only contribute venom as they languish in the throes of self-victimization. Let us put off the crab-in-the-barrel syndrome and shoot for the moon like Tiger.
Be a part of the solution. (Philippians 4:8)

13. I think Tiger Woods is a phenomenal athlete. Tiger and his father had built the Learning Center that provides education to children of all races. The Tiger Woods Foundation gave numerous grants and supports to educational programs that benefit African and other minorities in this county.

I do not think there is anything wrong with Tiger for identifying with his mother's heritage which is, incidentally, Asian. What is wrong with being both Asian and African? I don't think hating Asian heritage in any person will solve the problem for those who happen to dislike Tiger Woods for not being what they want him to be.

Anne Stevens at 10:02AM on Mar 27th 2008

14. Here's to another "Green Jacket" for the greatest golfer this world has ever seen......and there's more good news for all you lame haters; he's just getting started....you haven't seen the afterburners yet!!!!

Karl M cKenzie at 1:07PM on Mar 27th 2008

15. A Tiger Woods for everybody hating on you just tell them to look at your bank statement and you gold watch blinging on your wrist while you speed off in a brand new Hummer. Get money and quit hating on another man because all ya'll saying who cares about Tiger focus on who care about you because Billions of them dollars cares about Tiger.
