Crunk Juice: Rap Star Lil' Jon Launches New Wine Line

Rap superstar Lil' Jon (real name: Jonathan Smith) is expanding into the spirit business with the launch of his new wine line, Little Jonathan Winery.

The crunk connoisseur, known for his ubiquitous hip-hop hit 'Get Low,' recently unveiled the wines in California and anticipates going national in the next two months.

"I love wine and I think that it's an untapped market for the urban consumer. I wanted it to be the best, so we chose a world renowned wine maker, Alison Crowe, to bottle and create my Little Jonathan Winery," the Atlanta-bred rapper told me exclusively.

The 36-year-old rapper/producer is offering a merlot, chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon.

Lil' Jon's Little Jonathan Winery"My business partners and I were discussing the winter X Games events we were planning and the idea of making an exclusive wine just for those events came up. We thought it would be a cool option to have for people that didn't want to drink hard liquor or beer that weekend," he explained. "My partners are in the wine business and when they mentioned the idea to their friends, who are wine brokers, they loved it and suggested we make the wine available for the masses. Of course I was down with the idea!"

In January 2005, the rap mogul launched his energy juice, CRUNK!!! Energy Drink. The name of the drink was inspired by the hip-hopper's 2004 album, 'Crunk Juice.'

The multi-platinum star is slated to release a new album, 'Crunk Rock,' later this year, however, Lil Jon is signed to TVT Records and the label announced on Feb. 19, 2008 that is was closing its operation.

2. He may drink wine but dosen't know the business, therefore he put up the money and wait for it
to grow. If he had his own wine vineyard planted and picked his grapes of all types studied read about all the types of grapes and ingredients it takes to ferment a make wine then you would have your signature wine.

4. Good for Lil John, but let's see some Lil John Kool Aide flavors or Lil John soft drinks for the kids. You've given the adults so much. A energy drink, porn, now wine. Let's focus on your listening audience.

10. Thats T-Pain

MEInc at 1:11PM on Mar 10th 2008

11. I can't find any information on if Alison Crowe is either a black winemaker or if the grapes are from black farmers.

Does anyone know? I am looking for some good wine and ran across this article and also the African American Vintners website at AAAVinters.org ..

I hope Lil Jon and others help support black winemakers.

John Masters at 10:52PM on Mar 13th 2008

12. Check out Brown Family Winery (or vineyards) in St. Helena. They are African American. Alison Crowe is not African American, however if she makes wine that Lil Jon likes, then it should be ok.

13. all you who saying that is t pain are obviously unaware of who t pain or lil jon is. This is completey and utterlty devastating to the cause of this winery. Lil jon aka little jonothan obviously had an enjoyment in a sip of wine to even aspire enough to place his name upon the bottle. Theres plenty of other arrangements that little jonothan coud have taken part in. Long live the Crunk Movement. And get ya knowledge up bitches. Yeaaaaah
