Halle Berry: Scent of a Woman

Posted Feb 28th 2008 6:06PM by Karu F. Daniels

By Karu F. Daniels, BlackVoices.com

Halle Berry is joining the ranks of Britney Spears, Usher, Paris Hilton and Sean "Diddy" Combs.

And just about every other celebrity notable.

The Academy Award winning beauty has signed a deal to develop her very own fragrance line.

Expected next year, the initial roll-out for the yet-to-be-named products will launch in department stores such as J.C. Penney and will go mass market thereafter reports WWD.

"Halle is an iconic actress and symbolizes beauty to many generations," Coty's senior vice president of global marketing Steve Mormoris said about the pregnant 'Monster's Ball' star, who also endorses Revlon cosmetics.

"She adds another dimension to the celebrity fragrance market. Halle has always been a little more mysterious, not quite as open with her personal life as some other stars. Her fragrances will allow her to present another facet of her personality to her fans."

Celebrity deals reportedly include $3 million to $5 million in advance, with a royalty of about 5 percent paid out to the subject, industry sources noted. Mormoris declined to discuss the terms of Berry's deal with that daily fashion newspaper.

Coty's celebrity portfolio includes the scent brands of Jennifer Lopez, David and Victoria Beckham, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kimora Lee Simmons, Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion, Kate Moss and Tim McGraw.

"It's clear to us at Coty that the celebrity segment is alive and well," Mormoris said. "It's constantly being reinvented and refreshed. These fragrances are entertainment, but in a different way."

Meanwhile, Berry's last film 'Things We Lost in the Fire' arrives on DVD next week. The emotionally enthralling film tells the tale of two people brought together by fate to see each other through some of the toughest times of their lives. It stars fellow Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro and 'The X-Files' star and David Duchovny.

1. ZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! She needs to stop.

2. NO MORE nosejobs Halle...Your starting to look like Michael Jackson.

Via at 5:38AM on Feb 29th 2008

3. I dunno. Think she joined the celeb fragrance bandwagon a little too late, would have been a better business and marketing move if done after her Oscar win while she was still on top of her game, it would have sold like hotcakes then. I have mixed reactions how this will do.

Yes, the photo looks hideous and she should stop doing the plastic surgery, botox etc thing. She's been looking old, tired etc even before the pregnancy. Don't care how much magic a stylist can do.

Looks she's desperate to me to find was to possibly re-coup her loses from her boyfriend's failed restaurant venture and passive ways of earning a quick $3-$5M up front w/5% sales royalties while she's being a stay-at-home mother.

Think the Coty exec is as delusional as Halle is. She isn't mysterious and her private life has ALWAYS been public in the media who are they kidding?

Not an iconic actress like Miss Liz or Sophia, she's not even close to them as an icon even if it's in the making or their beauty.

I dunno? at 9:45AM on Feb 29th 2008

4. You have always been my girl Halle but now you seen to be a has been washed up old mother to be. We need another scent of a woman like we need a headache. You invested in a project that did not work so collect your loses and not try to have the public bail you out.Your choices has not been so good about a lot of things but stay strong and this to shall pass.

5. Halle's delusional. ET,SL, Audrey,Grace, MM, Ruby Dee, DD, Lena,Rita, Ava, Eartha, etc. are true icons. Halle's not. So, Halle airing her dirty laundry on Oprah,CNN, The View, Parade, other pubs and having articles/pix of she and Aubry in the bathroom walls of his failed restaurant and her whole celeb pregnancy thing private then I would hate to see what happens when she goes public dishing the diry giving us the 411.

Halle's delusional at 11:14AM on Feb 29th 2008

6. Halle Berry goes through trial and tribulations just like everyone else. She is a beautiful women and if JLo, Kimora Lee Simmons, Gwen Stefani etc... can have a fragrance then she certainly can too. So everyone needs to stop being so negative towards her.

alicia at 2:44PM on Feb 29th 2008

7. Hey SD...totally agree with you about cutting her losses and moving on and start listening to the right people and/or start hiring them.

8. people,

i'm not the one along as quoted wanting to start up something from nothing...but i will start to say this if i'm going to contiune to be a regular with blackvoices.com.....whereas after viewing some of the comments made on a nose job of one our most established celebraties along with michael jackson beside being just a couple of inches away from what's sincerely importtant stated and by our known black female successful coming to the defense of the very first lady of these United States....if any ki8nd of comments to be made about something more true to life and of utmost contentual appropriateness some commending comment should be shouted out to "star jones" for her vocalize encounteractive of correction made by television achorman "o'reiley" first, then make some room for happy hour later when what's important at hand on the real side later........

thank you,
brenda

9. Not trying to start up anything either or hating on the woman, I like Halle. See nothing wrong with someone posting Halle had a nose job she did, along with having her teeth done and possibly a few other things. Know people who have the 411 on this and some of this is documented.

The others are stating their opinion to the article (which they took right from the WWD article which they may or may not agree with some points how Halle is actually portrayed in the mainstream mass media which those audiences are catered to buy those sources.

Halle has aired her dirty laundry on Oprah several times-seen some of the shows. You can see the clips on various sites. She's made comments on other shows too or made comments to publications that have come to haunt her and even backfired documented in the media etc.

So,your post is about possible or actual plastic surgery? The people's responses to the article? Or you think they're not their making up her bashing the exes on Oprah, Larry King, The View etc.--have seen the shows--ain't horse hockey.

Not being mean, please explain your post dear.

Huh Brenda? Confused? at 6:05PM on Feb 29th 2008

10. Part 2--nothing wrong with Halle adding more success and getting hers on the celeb fragrance line like so many of them do.

The comments regrading she's recouping losses from Aubry's restaurant closing have to do with the sequence/timing of events (can explain further to you later if you want me to), while most of us know what she has said in interviews about him using his own money, how much his modeling salary is etc. Yes, we don't know if she actually give him for the venture. We do know she didn't bail him out either.

Huh Brenda? Confused? part 2 at 6:13PM on Feb 29th 2008

11. She is soooo pretty. I want to say eat your heart still to every one of those still WANNABE'S out there and on here. Halle's fragrance is gonna sell no matter whatb/c who is she, she's HALLE BERRY. She pulls off being pregnant so beautiful. BLACK AND WHITE is so beautiful together. I don't care how people try to spin it, she "STILL" claims her BLACK heritage unlike others whom are so damn confused still. Like being mixed already isn't enough as is. You still want to be another race combined all togather. HALLE, you go girl. I for one can't wait until your fragrance is released. Happy Soon To Be MOTHER, Halle. Congrats.

14. The only women who say jealous and hate filled things about Halle Berry, are usually unattractive women who bear a striking resemblance to Yaphet kotto....don't hate, you don't need any more ugly.
