Eddie Murphy Wins Worst Actor Awards From Golden Raspberry Awards

Posted Feb 24th 2008 9:57AM by Wilson Morales
Filed under: It's All Reel

Although it made a lot of money for the studio (Paramount Pictures), the people have spoken.

According to its website, Many a RAZZIE record was broken at this weekend's 28th Annual Golden Raspberry Awards, which dis-honor Worst Achievements in Film.

Eddie Murphy became the first performer ever to win three of the four Worst Acting trophies in a single year - all for his multiple roles in the film everyone assumes cost him last year's Best Supporting Actor Oscar for DREAMGIRLS. As the nerdy title character in NORBIT, Eddie was named Worst Actor.

Painted orange and sporting about four pounds of Latex, Murphy was also chosen Worst Supporting Actor for his ethnically insensitive portrayal of "Mr. Wong." And, in a wig and sporting about 400-pounds of Latex, Murphy took the trophy as Worst Supporting Actress for his portrayal of the foul-mouthed, ill-tempered harpy Rasputia in the same film.

Playing two characters who may (or may not) have been twins in I KNOW WHO KILLED ME, Lindsay Lohan equaled Eddie's triple "achievement." Nominated individually for each of her characters, Lindsay "won" a pair of Worst Actress statuettes when she received the same number of votes for both roles. And, for a scene in which she appears opposite herself at the film's finale, Lohan was also RAZZed as the year's Worst Screen Couple. The film itself, with a less-than-grand total of 8 "wins" from its 9 nominations, broke the long-standing record for most RAZZIES® "won" by a single film. SHOWGIRLS and BATTLEFIELD EARTH, each with 7 "wins," had previously been the champions. In addition to Lindsay's twinsy "wins," KILLED ME copped the awards as Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay, Worst Excuse for a Horror Movie and Worst Remake or Rip-Off (where it competed as both a rip-off of the HOSTEL and SAW teen-torture-porn movies and an oddball remake of the 1960s sitcom THE PATTY DUKE SHOW).

The lone "winner" not associated with either KILLED ME or NORBIT still had something to do with Eddie Murphy. An Eddie-Murphy-Sequel-without-Eddie-Murphy, the pooping, belching, vomiting, cacophonous kiddy "comedy" DADDY DAY CAMP was crowned Worst Prequel or Sequel.

16. I know why you a$$holes hate Eddie . It's because YOU can't do what he has done , are envious and afraid to admit it and because YOU ALL have NO CLASS .

17. I think Norbit is one of Eddie Murphy's best movies. It isn't about Black America, it is about him. He makes the audience truly feel for his characters no matter what movie, Norbit, Coming to America, Daddy Day Care

18. Eddie Murphy is AWESOME!!!! You can not take away credit where it is due, all of his movies are entertaining to say the least and some are just Great! I dont believe in these stupid Razzie awards they are just the opinions of people who cant even do any of what the actors in the movies they are judging do! Eddie dont let these comments get you down you are an ICON, keep doing what you do !

20. Look, Eddy Murphy is funny as hell. Delirious, shit like that is hilarious. Norbit was funny too. I was high as hell and i laughed my ass off. But funny does not make a good movie. Think about it this way, was "You Got Served" a good movie? If you ask a teenage girl at the time, she would rip you to shreds for even suggesting it wasn't the best movie of the year. But really it was nothing more than a long ass music/ dance video, and barely watchable.

21. Screw the Hollywood types that give Broke Back accolades and then diss Eddie. They seem to forget that movies are an escape from everyday life and for ENTERTAINMENT. I love ALL of Eddie Murphys movies. My favorite is Beverly Hills Cop 1 BUT NORRBIT was very funny and Eddie once again did a knock out job with ALL the characters he played. He is one of the great ones and I will continue to watch him, no matter what the "self proclaimed experts" say. They know s#@t.

22. What? When was THAT election held? Norbit was funny as hell!!! His characters were very believable in that movie. And please, bring back the PJs!!! Worse actor? How many people can memorize all the lines for more than one character?? There's a reason this movie did good: It was good. Halle Berry got an Oscar for Monster's Ball and that was a stupid movie.. Not that she is a bad actress, but the whole damn movie was bland. Yes, I want a recount, too!
