Attention Oprah Store Shoppers!

Posted Feb 23rd 2008 1:00PM by Jeff Douglas
Filed under: BlackSpin

Imagine this.

An Oprah Store in every shopping center and strip mall from New Jersey to New Mexico.

Wal-Mart and Target better watch out. For now, Oprah Winfrey has just one store, which recently opened by her Harpo Studios on Chicago's West Side.

The store will sell everything from $13 cosmetic bags decorated with pastel O's to "a pair of Gianfranco Ferré brown crocodile ankle boots worth $300, taken directly from Oprah's closet, according to Black Enterprise magazine.

Oh ... and surprise, surprise ... much of the profits go to help those in need and charities, including Oprah's Angel Network. Alright, now I feel like a complete failure in life.

The Harpo Inc. boss pulled in $325 million in sales last year, according to Black Enterprise.

But one "O" store in the Windy City can not contain this media mogul's potential. Steven Keith Platt, director of the Platt Retail Institute, calls Oprah "an American icon."

And as he told Black Enterprise, if Martha Stewart can make it big at Kmart, there is no denying that our girl Oprah can.

You heard it here first. The first chance she gets, Oprah will build an Oprah store on the moon. That's right, Oprah Sky Mall as in-flight reading.

Love her. Hate her. Oprah is more than a powerful, rich and successful black woman. She is a brand and more. But what really worries me? she's running out of business ventures. School? Did that. Radio network? Check. Magazine? Yup. Oprahvision? Done it.

Really, give us your ideas below about what she can possibly do next.

2. Where do I sign up to be placed on the waiting list to purchase a franchise. Or maybe Gran Damme Winfrey will allow an employee owner/partnership/profitshare. Better yet Harpo coop stores. Malcolm knew, he was allowed a vision into the future. There may be a side of MS. Winfrey hidden underneath the brown television makeup. You Go Girl!!

5. I think the Oprah Store is a fantastic idea, especially being designed to help the underpriviliged, sending benefits from the store to help them. It makes me feel so good to see a disguised angel working for the betterment of manking, looking out for the underdog, not forgetting where you came from, etc. We should all be more like that, it is the only way. More power to you Oprah, I will certainly be doing my on-line shopping there. Jean Williams, Sugaraland, Texas

6. I Love Oprah!!! She is such a positive role model and an inspiration to so many. I will definately shop her store the next time I am in Chicago and I hope those boots are still there!!! I'm thinking she and Bob Greene should open "O" Fitness...an upscale branch of fitness clubs that has a restaraunt, serving some of her favorite healthy foods of course, and also has a day spa in it...what do you think?? Good idea...maybe

7. WHAT OPRAH CAN POSSIBLY DO NEXT IS: (Well, she may have already done this but....)
* Ask single moms, entreprenuers, married couples, Business Partnerships etc. (just starting out) Re: helping children-become more productive, obtain self-esteem, receive educational and economical programs, and to definitely emphasize the importance of good character and morals. Oprah should ask these people to submit their plans, ideas regarding this - Give Oprah SPECIFIC DETAILS to let her know exactly what their business entails. Oprah then should pick approx. 10 business and provide them with finanical help so they can proceed with their busIness for helping children. As I have started a children's program in April 2004, and due to low, low, low financial funds ---- MAN, I'm struggling, but I am continuing on with my project for kids. THANK YOU OPRAH - I know you can handle this task with EASE. LUV YA OPRAH.

8. Love her or hate her, (I've heard a lot of opinins and mixed views on her), you've got to admit, Oprah is what's up!

9. WOW This is fantastic, just goes to show what staying in school and getting an education can do for you. She came from humble beginnings. We need more youth to try to accomplish their dreams in more positive ways. Love that woman.

11. Oprah is okay, she has done alot for the communities and the country. However, I have a petpeve with Ms. Winfrey, my daughter and the the other african-american students in Kenosha, WI was allowed to put on the first all black play "Raisin in the Sun" which an invitation was extended to her and she snobbed the young people. Also when her makeup artist came to our place of employment and Ms. Winfrey extended an all agency invite, it was a disaster. We could not all attend together. We had to attend in groups that extended over two month period, needless to say some individuals were put off on the manner in which Harpo employees treated them. I personally declined to attend. My experience with being on the "O" was in 1992 and it was a wonderful experience; of course she was more down to earth and was not a phenominal as she is now.

12. Oprah, Oprah, Oprah, I am so proud of you. What God has for you, it's for you.
Love You

13. How about helping others that are struggling to open up small businesses? She doesn't necessarily have to give them money but appoint someone to work with them for a year to two and spread the wealth.

Kayisha at 10:59AM on Feb 26th 2008

14. Oprah is indefatigable! I am not an avid viewer of her daily program, but she is extremely informative and thoughtful in all that she does to bring people to a new level of understanding. She is one of the true leaders overlapping both the 20th and 21st centuries. For more insight on effective leaders visit my website at www.josephrobinsonjr.com and look for new book release in March 2008 titled "7 Leadership Imperatives from a Wild Man." Judson Press. Be encouraged.

15. Hi:

I have another venture for Oprah!! How about going into the real estate business: There are a lot of homeless people out there. She can build buildings here in the Bronx for poor working people because the housing market is sky rocketing out of control. Pretty soon--we will all be living in the streets. The rent keep going up but our paychecks stay the same.

Thank you

P.S.. She can help the Katrina Victims:
