SPOTTED: Karrine Steffans and Toure

By Karu F. Daniels, BlackVoices.com

On Feb. 21, the Johnson Publishing Company hosted its magazine held its much anticipated pre-Academy Awards event, the "Ebony Pre-Oscar Celebration – Take 4" at Boulevard 3 in Los Angeles. Among the guests -- which included Denzel Washington, Ruby Dee, Quincy Jones, Tracee Ellis Ross, Natalie Cole, Eriq La Salle, Frenchie Davis, Beverly Todd, Tyrese and Richard Roundtree – were former video vixen turned best-selling author Karrine Steffans and BET personality Toure.

1. It's sick and insulting to black women everywhere that Essence or Ebony would include someone like Karrine Steffans aka supahead to any event. ICK!!!! What happened to positive role models, positive images of black women in the community and media?!?! She does the EXACT OPPOSITE. It's disgusting and vile. She is disgusting, vile, opportunistic parasite and should be left ALONE. Not encouraged by including her in these events. YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2. I agree totally

3. Are you mad because Karrine Steffans wrote books about having sex with so-called famous men/woman? Who cares. Its just sex. You aren't mad that she is the top-selling black author in the country? Her books sell more then other black authors in America. Even those books that are laced with "fictional" sex. Someone wants to know what she knows. Its just sex, get over it.

4. I can't believe that's all you guys had to say about this wonderful event was that nasty Karrine Steffans was there. lol What about all of the other African American women who were there that are women of integrity that have created a legacy for us black women! Let's talk about them and celebrate with them.

5. I totally agree with Jessica! Anyone who would have a "nickname" "superHEAD" shouldn't be out public. This woman has a child. She was on "Oprah." What you do in your private life should be private. I don't want to know who she's doing--male or female. That's the problem, it should be "just sex!" Good grief! Have we become so numb and void that it's "just sex!" I think of sex as intimacy--something wonderful, spiritual, tieing a man and woman together through God! We need to get back to basics, now, don't we? Ladies, protect your "pocketbooks!"

6. These women are dazzling, beautiful African American women, some of them 'mature' and they all look great! No botox, no fake smiles, just class and style! Take note Pricilla Presley, thats how it's done!

xanimebabyx at 10:51AM on Mar 28th 2008

7. Aren't her 15 minutes over yet????????????

Christal at 11:23AM on Mar 28th 2008

8. Finally! Intelligent responses to an article on Black Voices!! Wow!! I agree with the ladies who posted about Supahead. There's no way that she should have been at that event. She represents the worse that a woman can offer. Contrary to popular belief, INTELLIGENT black men wouldn't even want to be associated with her.

TheJewsAreBlack at 11:26AM on Mar 31st 2008

9. The comment by Jessica has me on the floor. I was gona loosely touch on her being invited until I read Jessica's comment. We as black people have a problem when you invite a porn star to an Oscar event, and then another media outlet publishes the picture online for the world to see. Nothing wrong with doing your thing in videos in my opinion, but damn, did she need to be invited to an Oscar party?

Jay G at 6:04AM on Apr 9th 2008

10. Maybe this is what Karrine needs,to be around positive women that didn't take the road she decided to travel. While reading her 1st book,I too judged her but haven't we all done something others would frown upon?
