Back In The Acting Field - Malcolm Jamal Warner In 'Fool's Gold'

Posted Feb 7th 2008 9:01AM by Wilson Morales
Filed under: It's All Reel

It's been 16 years since Malcolm-Jamal Warner stopped playing Theo Huxtable from 'The Cosby Show' and although he has some televison shows after that such as 'Malcolm & Eddie', 'Jeremiah', and 'Listen Up', I've always felt he should have parlayed his TV fame to the film world.

Well, in a hopeful sign of good things to come, Warner has a role in 'Fool's Gold' opposite Matther McConaughey and Kate Hudson. Also featured in the film are Donald Sutherland, Alexis Dziena, Kevin Hart, and Brian Hooks.

Ben "Finn" Finnegan (Matthew McConaughey) is an affable, modern-day treasure hunter who is obsessed with finding the legendary 18th century Queen's Dowry--40 chests of priceless treasure that was lost at sea in 1715. In his quest, Finn has sunk everything he has, including his marriage to Tess Finnegan (Kate Hudson).

Just as Tess has begun to rebuild her life, working aboard a mega-yacht owned by billionaire Nigel Honeycutt (Donald Sutherland), Finn discovers a vital clue to the treasure's whereabouts. Much to Tess' consternation, Finn maneuvers himself aboard Nigel's yacht and, using his roguish charm, convinces the tycoon and his celebutante daughter, Gemma (Alexis Dziena), to join him in the pursuit of the Spanish treasure. But they are not the only ones after the prize. Finn's one-time mentor, Moe Fitch (Ray Winstone), and a ruthless local gangster (Kevin Hart) are intent on beating Finn to the prize. Let the treasure hunt begin.

Warner's role is as a Rastafarian henchman and although it's not a big one, but it's a start in the right direction if he's going to go the film route.

4. Welcome back Malcolm!
You have been a favorite actor of mine since your Cosby Show days. My 39 year old son has been told many times that the two of you resemble. So in truth, you both are quite handsome men...no doubt! (Smile) Malcolm, may your road to success continue on for you. I'll be looking for you on the silver screen. Oh! By the way, I loved your character in "Love For Hire".

Prayers, Love, Peace, and Blessings to you Malcolm

5. It's an action comedy with a PG-13 rating people. It's not some big serious film to go out and think there's going to be Oscar caliber story telling going on. nj Wake up, it's a family movie. Good luck Malcolm! I've watched all of your shows and you are a good actor. Hope to see you doing more in the future.

6. I agree with the "walk-on-water" response from another poster. The person who thought that Theo was fat and went on to say the movie(s) was bad with bad acting, has not been on any screen that I have ever seen. Raven is spelled like this. Raven. Not Rayvin.
Some people.
Keep going Malcolm...we love you!
