Mary J. Blige: Bringing 'Pain' All Over The Place

Queen of hip-hop soul Mary J. Blige will not show up at the big 50th Anniversary of the Grammy Awards on Feb. 10, but the six time award winner (who has three nominations this year) has big plans to be on TV this month.

According to a rep, Blige has a slew of major TV shows -- 'Jimmy Kimmel Live,' 'Rachael Ray,' and 'TV One on One with Cathy Hughes' -- in the works, as her record label, Geffen, roles out her new single 'Hurt Again,' from her latest platinum-selling opus, 'Growing Pains.'The 'No More Drama' diva will also appear on two episodes of the multiple Emmy Award winning soap opera 'One Life to Live' on Feb. 15 and Feb. 18. On the Valentine's Day themed episodes, Blige will sing two songs at the surprise birthday party for character Starr Manning, daughter of the town's millionaire villain.

"It's absolutely amazing to be integrated into a soap opera I've watched since I was a little girl," said . Blige. "I performed on the show two years ago and had a ball, and I am beyond thrilled to be welcomed back again."

The following week after her last performance in July 2006, her album's Soundscan sales soared 40 percent.

"Mary J. Blige is one of the most prominent and powerful voices in the music industry," said executive producer Frank Valentini. "She is an inspiration in both her music and her life, and we are thrilled to welcome her back to 'One Life to Live.'"

And to cap off the month, 'VH1 Storytellers: Mary J. Blige' will premiere Feb. 25 a 8 p.m. ET/PT. Taped in front of a live studio audience at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom last month, the hour long show will feature Blige performing songs from 'Growing Pains' in addition to past hits.

Following in the 'Storytellers' format, viewers will get a unique opportunity to hear the inspiration and stories behind each song.

No word on a tour yet, but something tells me that she – as one of the most engaging live performers of her generation – will have something jumping off in the very near future.

1. I think it is a shame she will not be at the Grammy's but I love seeing her on TV because she is so talented.

2. Growing Pains? Don't you mean Human Growth Hormone Pains?

Cecil Jones at 10:10PM on Feb 5th 2008

3. Cecil, Cecil, Cecil, always a joker. Your comments aren't funny at ALL! If you don't have anything positive to comment on Mary don't make any comments at all. Mary is very talented and doesn't pay people like you any mind. Mary got a slamin CD. What do you have? "Who are you"?

4. I will miss Mary not being in the Grammy's this year, but look forward in seeing her on TV. She always have a good performance. I just hope, Mary will get over her past and move forward. It seems, she is tired of people talking about her and still has some issues. I am some what tired of hearing her sing about songs that remind her of pain, I mean "Hurt Again" and "Growing Pains" are songs that Mary is emotionally feeling now and what she felt in her past. Shouldn't she be happy by now? In my opinion, I think Mary should let it go and get over what she is going through. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of happy songs Mary has put out now and in the past that I liked.

Mary had made a comment on BET about, how she is trying to deal with what negative things people say about her. If I was an artist, I wouldn't care what people say. Those or the things that celebrities have to deal with. She has a good husband, she is beautiful, talent, making hits, and came along way. She should do what makes Mary happy and thank "GOD" for her success. Mary, just ask "GOD" what direction to go and how to deal with your emotions. Don't be emotionally ruled by the world. You will see that "GOD" will answer your prayers and "Bless" you in so many ways! "GOD" is the only source to go to in time of need!

5. I think that Mary is getting over her past and is dealing with it exceptionally well. It is evident that she is moving forward with leaps and bounds. We all have issues and her music is her platform that she uses to express that; and is very therapeutic for her. Even though some people may be tired of hearing her songs that deal with her past, just remember that there are people everyday still going through or dealing with that pain, and her music is a form of therapy for them as well.

I think that she seems to be very happy now, but just because you are happy does not mean that you cannot get everything off your chest and in the process possibly help others. Additionally, I'm sure that she knows that the opinions of people can be harsh because it helps them in some sick way, but I think that she handles it very well. Finally, it seems that she constantly gives thanks and praise to GOD for bringing her this far, so let's just let her continue to do her thing because she is doing it well. Let's just be proud of her and continue to support her.

6. Well as long as we will continue seeing you on t.v that's just fine, fine fine you will do good at anything you want so you have my continued support...

shel at 7:33PM on Feb 6th 2008

7. People need to stop hating on Mary! Even if she used hormones so what we eat them every day in our food. As long as she doesn't hurt herself and a doctor is helping who cares.

c benee at 10:55PM on Feb 6th 2008

8. I hate she will not be on the Grammy's, but I will watch the Soap Opera. I don't watch Soaps but to see Mary I will. I read a comment where someone tried to make a pun on the "pain" thing by saying "human growth
hormone pains" now that was tacky. Ithink there are wayy tmany things to worry about than the steroid use, Yes, it's serious when people do this. But, I guess the media has to take our minds to this. But, think about how many soldiers have died in war, and where in the workd are those weapons of mass destruction(breast implants don't count" Mary, is a good artist and I like the idea of seeing a dark skinned woman looking lovely and doing her thing. Big ups to Mary. Stay Blessed Everyone
