Kimora Lee Simmons: Baby Phat Fall 2008

If you've watched 'The Fabulous Life of Kimora Lee Simmons,' where she giddily displays acts and spews rants that are so over the top ("The house is only $7 million? That's too cheap!"), then it should come as no surprise that her Baby Phat Fall 2008 fashion show last Friday would be just as colorful.

Take for instance her celebrity attendees.

Baby Phat Fall 2008

No other fashion designer during New York Fashion Week except perhaps Marc Jacobs, has nearly as many famous devotees in the house: Her current man actor/Calvin Klein model Djimon Hounsou, Tyra Banks, Star Jones with accessory husband Al Reyolds, Lisa Raye, Vivica A. Fox, Amerie in a sleek satin trench coat worn as a dress, a bevy of unrecognizables including Remy Ma, Joss Stone (dark hair! shoes on her feet!) and Chrisette Michele with teacup Yorkie in hand and sporting a very short 'do instead of her signature old Hollywood glamour curls.

Also attending were Nina Sky and a super tattooed Lil' Mo, ANTM judge Jay, winner Jaslene, non-winner Keenyah and my personal favorite: a purple-hued, cape-wearing Perez Hilton. It wouldn't be Fashion Week if somebody didn't bring some light heartedness to it. Hear that Anna Wintour? Crack a smile every once in a while!

Simmons is the Creative Director of the Phat Fashions brand, which encompasses Baby Phat, Phat Farm and KLS Collection so it was only befitting to show all three lines on the runway. Simmons is a smart girl, who knows her customer very well, that they buy into her fantasy.

She understands that if she shows more fabulous, non-sportswear pieces on the runway, her customers will still go out and buy the jeans anyway to buy into her lifestyle. Hence, mostly dressy pieces were shown.

With a nod to the Old Hollywood, Simmons impressed us with the dark lips and pinup curls of yesteryear and flapper-inspired numbers that featured pearls instead of strings. Other standouts were the a purple feather miniskirt, tophats and derbies on men and women (think Usher in his "My Way" video) long dresses in black and bold brights from KLS that were an instant it with celebrity stylist Phillip Bloch, "The long orange with the back out and the purple dress with the ruffles was divine! I loved the old Hollywood references."

Kimora said she was simply offering her take on what's been done before. "I'm offering everything for my girl to wear from the red carpet to the boudoir that's why I showed garter belts and stockings from my lingerie line as well. It's fashion from the 20s to the 40s, very retro glam, old Hollywood hence the gown with stones, rosettes. Stones add fabulosity."

Fabulous indeed.

18. chamire, u shouldn't feel insulted about the comment that Tiffany made about ghetto girls wearing babyphat... Because when we here the word ghetto we automatimatically assume that they r talking about black people... What is ghetto? what does it mean? it doesn't pertain to us, it pertains to people who don't know how to act with manners, people how have no respect for others, and people who carry themselves in a despicable manner.

I buy babyphat for my daughter and like some of her things but not all..

I don't buy babyphat for myself though.. i don't really care for graphics on my clothes...

Hell i'm a grown assss woman and i'm not going to wearing no big assss kitty kat on my assssssss!!!

19. I THINK THAT THE 2008 COLLECTION WAS A FLOP.I HOPE THAT WAS JUST THE KLS COLLECTION AND NOT BABY PHAT.KIMORA MUST BE SPENDING TOO MUCH TIME W/ HER KNEW MAN AND NOT ENOUGH TIME FOCUSSING ON HER CAREER.I WOULD HAVE NEVER EXPECTED THIS FROM HER.I TOOK HER FOR THE MONEY OVER MAN TYPE OF PERSON.(MY FAULT)AND WHEN IS SHE GOING TO TELL EVERYONE SHE IS PREGNANT(PICTURE #26)?COME ON IT IS SO OBVIOUS.FAT FACE,PREGNANT GLOW,AND I KNOW IM NOT THE ONLY PERSON THAT CAN SEE THAT HUMP IN HER DRESS.

20. BP is ghetto and most women that wear it are ghetto. Do you see professionals or classy women wearing this mess? Nope I am educated and have class and can't be walking around with BP jeans, top, shoes, earrings, etc.....Now I may wear just a top or a purse but, that is it.

22. #5 yes she now her perfume is the bomb but, she used a man and now she is with another man and wait she looks like the fat little hamster on Nutty Professor. She is cute but, not drop dead gorgeous. Just a classy ghetto fab chick...

23. I love the babyphat denim pants with the ebellishment and extra embreillums (sp?? I find Baby Phat denim pants the most attractive Baby Phat clothing of all and it always has spandex to fit the extra curves all in the right place. The rest (shirt, non denim pants etc) doesn't work well on me.

24. 1 more thing if you saw her show the kids are brats and she has raised them just like her to treat people like dogs but, that does come to an end when you are all alone.

26. Her kids are so cute... And the youngest looks just like on of her cousins (Rev Run's sons). She's teaching them early. Keep it in the family.

27. I personally resent the comments made by some of you that only ghetto girls in the projects or ghetto people wear this line. I, as well as my daughter are very well educated folk who(forgive me) don't live in a project or the ghetto, have very well paying jobs, and we happen to like most of the baby phat line. I sm more into shoes as my daughter loves clothes, as far as cheap, we pay alot of money for the baby phat items we've purchased.

28. Her clothes are extremely cheap. I use to buy her jeans and every pair that I purchased ripped to shreds. Not just a stitch here or there. My whole ass was hanging out. Baby Phat is made for little girls or should be. I agree with everyone when they said that nobody wants a big kitty on their clothing. Its tacky. I purchased my clothes from Macy's and from her website. Super Cheap Clothing Kimora shame on you...
