Access Granted: Shaun Robinson Covers Precious Times

Posted Jan 22nd 2008 9:33AM by Jawn Murray
Filed under: BV Buzz

'Access Hollywood ' host Shaun Robinson is featured on the newest issue of the Christian women's lifestyle magazine Precious Times.

The forty-something TV talent talks about maintaining a spiritual perspective in Hollywood and explores what "sexy" means as a Christian woman.

"Any woman can be sexy no matter her size as long as she walks in the confidence and security of who she is in Christ. I hope I can redefine the term sexy," said Robinson.

The Emmy-winning journalist, who joined 'Access Hollywood' in 1999, was named 'Sexiest Female TV Personality' on Victoria 's Secret's 2006 'What is Sexy?' list.

The Detroit, Michigan-bred anchor, who also hosts 'TV One Access' on the Cathy Hughes-owned cable channel TV One, followed her grandmother's blueprint for how to be a lady. Those memories have motivated Robinson to use her platform to change the self image of teen girls. The stylish host is now writing a book tentatively titled 'Girls and Self-Esteem,' which will address girls from ages 12 to 17 who are constantly bombarded with media images of perfect proportions and flawless skin.

Robinson also hopes that she and the other notable women can inspire young girls to pursue their professional dreams.

In the Precious Times cover feature, the Spelman College graduate recalled childhood memories of watching Detroit 's first black anchor woman Beverly Payne and desiring a career in television.

"I used to sit and watch the news at my grandmother's house and watch her [Beverly Payne] everyday and just thought she was so smart and beautiful," remembered Robinson. "I used to dream about just being like her one day."

Last fall, Robinson's coverage in South Africa from Oprah Winfrey's Leadership Academy for Girls after a dorm matron was accused of sexual assault was seen on NBC's 'Today Show' and MSNBC, in addition 'Access Hollywood.'

The proud card-carrying member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) was also a fixture in the coverage of the death of rapper Kanye West's mother Donda West, which landed her multiple appearances on CNN's 'Larry King Live.'

In late 2005, Robinson was romantically linked to Eddie Murphy shortly after his wife, Nicole, filed for divorce. She has also maintained that the two were "just friends."

Robinson recently launched her website www.ShaunRobinson.com that streams some of her favorite interview clips.

Precious Times is available at popular newsstands including Barnes & Noble, Wal-Mart, Books-A-Million and other retail outlets. For more information, visit www.precioustimesmag.com.

1. If Eddie had his life right- they'd made a perfect couple.

2. christians are subtle so if thats what Shaun Robinson
is, good for her

3. Anutha: If you read the article it states " after his wife, Nicole, filed for divorce". She also said they were friends, maybe she was helping him in a hard time.

daphne at 7:44AM on Jan 24th 2008

4. Even if he was totally single, I do not understand why a woman of principle would want to be friends with Eddie Murphy who is so obviously not principled.

Bill at 8:21AM on Jan 24th 2008

5. What a beautiful woman, and positive role model. We need more stories like this circulating the web! I guess it takes a Spelman Woman to get the job done :)

6. You have to get to know someone before you can determine whether they are "principled" or not. Once she got to know Eddie, it obviously went nowhere. You can't fault her for trying to get to know him rather than relying on what the media says about him. Part of being a Christian is giving people the benefit of the doubt and not judging someone based on gossip, etc.

Agreeing with daphne, it helps to actually read the article and comprehend it before commenting, Anutha. It seems you have an inherent prejudice against anyone who might be a Christian and you are quick to find something to point to hypocrisy. If that is your attitude, no one will ever satisfy you as being a genuine person of faith, as no one is perfect and everyone will therefore appear to be hypocritical in some way. I wonder if you're a perfect model of consistency to your beliefs, whatever they may be? I'm sure you must be...otherwise posting your comments would make you...a hypocrite.

7. If Christians only hung out with and helped other Christians through hard times they would truly be hypocrites. Thumbs up, Shaun! You are beautiful inside and out.

8. This isn't news about Britney Spears? What the hell

LEANNE STILLWELL at 8:58AM on Jan 24th 2008

9. WOW, you people never cease to amaze me. You can take a wonderful story and pick it like cotton. She was "friends" with Murphy, however, we all know that the media needs so much more than friendship. For the sake of us knowing for sure that Eddie is a heathen, why would she be a hypocrite for befriending him? Remember Christ, hung out with everyone. He came to save and a Christian is one who emulates the character of Jesus. Just a little knowledge dropped for 'kryss'. I'll pray for U.

10. MURHPY IS AN AZZ

BAMA at 9:03AM on Jan 24th 2008

11. I hope she is sincere. So many use religion and righteousness to make money and further their careers. The general public has to be so careful not to fall for fakers like Ted Swaggard, Larry Craig, George W. Bush, and Pat Robertson.

Steve at 10:08AM on Jan 24th 2008

12. I hope there was no romantic connection between her and Eddie Murphy, for he is a troubled, and confused man who needs to come out of the closet. I believe that Eddie Murphy is linking himself up with beautiful woman after beautiful woman to hide his true identity. He figures that the more he links up with woman and reproduce, the more that it make people forget about the "incident" with the transvestite. Come on out eddie-confess and repent

paula manning at 12:00PM on Jan 24th 2008

13. We have other things to worry about in this world. Why drowned ourselves in this petty stuff. Who Cares, Get your priorities in order. Hollywood is trying to keep you stupid.

cabaki at 2:05PM on Jan 24th 2008

14. Well, I guess moslems, jews, and others can't be sexy. What a bigot.

k at 5:40PM on Jan 24th 2008

15. Eddie screwed that one up royaly. She's an extremely attractive woman. He can meet more woman like that on www.emarital.com.
