This, That & The Other: News on Usher, Ann Nesby & Tank

Posted Jan 21st 2008 10:30PM by Jawn Murray
Filed under: BV Buzz

My condolences to R&B singer Usher Raymond IV, whose father Usher Raymond III died of unknown causes on Friday, Jan. 18.

The newlywed and first time father had reconciled with his estranged father less than a year ago. The late Mr. Raymond III had a troubled life and reportedly had several run-ins with the law.

His 29-year-old son had moved his father to Atlanta this past summer, just before his wedding to stylist Tameka Foster.

The funeral will take place one day this week at the Taylor Funeral Home Chapel in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The 'Queen of Inspirational Soul' Ann Nesby is refuting the claims by a professional background singer and aspiring songwriter Peggy Harley that Nesby, in conjunction with New York radio personality Vaughn Harper, violated copyright infringement with Nesby's single, 'I Apologize.'

The song is featured on Nesby's current release 'This Is Love.'

Harley is suing Nesby and veteran Big Apple deejay alleging that the two worked together to rip-off the fledgling songwriter's original work, 'It Will Never Happen Again.'

The former Sounds of Blackness lead singer, who is nominated for a Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance for the song 'I Apologize,' responded to the suit via Laborforce Management and denied the accusations.

"The deluded accusations brought upon by Peggy Harley are unfounded. 'I Apologize' is an original recording exclusively created by Ann Nesby and producer/songwriter Roosevelt George. Laborforce Management, It's Time Child Records, and Ann Nesby have no professional or personal relationship with Vaughn Harper of WBLS as Harley claims,' the statement read.

As a songwriter, Nesby has penned songs for Patti LaBelle ('Right Kinda Lover'), Gladys Knight ('Home Alone') and jazz artist Tom Scott ('You Are My Everything'), among others.

No record of a professional song placement can be found in any of Harley's credits.

R&B stud Tank is the proud father of a baby girl named Zoey Mykhale. The singer, whose real name is Durrell Babbs, had the baby with dancer Zena Foster.

Zoey Mykhale was born on Dec. 26 in Burbank, Calif. and weighed 7 lbs and 15 ounces.

Tank, who is nominated for two Grammys for his album 'Sex, Love & Pain,' has two daughters by his ex-wife.

**** UPDATED ****

It has been confirmed that singer Tank is also the proud father of a new baby boy named after him. Durrell Babbs, Jr. was born within a month of his sister Zoey Mykhale. The two children have seperate mothers.

8. Usher's father died of disappointment! Usher married that woman! It killed his father for the son to marry such a person. I don't know what to think of him since he married her! So sad.

11. the remarks that people make never seem to amaze me , the man has loss his father , doesnt matter what kinda of life his father lived, it still ws his father , it shouldnt even matter to other's , have some sympathy and respect for others, if a person died from crack or anything other illness, it's not anyones business to critcize or make such harsh statements, May mr. Raymond rest in peace and deepest condolences g out the the family including the daughter in law / wife of Usher. People if you have nothing nice to say then do others and yourself a favor , just don't say anything .

12. I'm sorry for Usher's lost, but he's not the same anymore since he married her. He seems to be more cocky and that woman, who I read has 2 OTHER KIDS by someone else AND COMMITTED CHECK FRAUD, correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't he choose better for himself?????? EVERY GOLDDIGGER GETS PREGNANT FIRST, THEN IDIOTS LIKE HIM MARRY AND THEN DIVORCE, WITH MUCH LESS THAN BEFORE!!!!!! When he went up against his MOM, WHO HAD HIS BACK ALL THE TIME, I knew then that he had LOST IT!!!! he doesn't even sound GOOD to me anymore!!!!!! Now, the idiot needs a PATERNITY TEST!!!!!!!!

Babydoll at 8:12AM on Jan 23rd 2008

13. Zoey is beyond precious!

My condolences to Usher - he's a class act and I'm glad he patched things up with his dad before it was too late. That's a great lesson for all of us.

Starbucks at 8:25AM on Jan 23rd 2008

14. I'm sorry for the loss. I don't presume to know what the relationship was, but evidently Usher wanted to have a relationship with his father. Maybe he felt the loss of not having a father around when he was growing up. Never doubt the importance of a man in a child's life. Every "Daddy" should remember that and work real hard to be in their children's lives. I'm so very sorry for Usher that he will not be able to do that. I do hope though, whatever happened, I hope Usher realizes he did all he could to make that relationship better.

15. why is it when a celebrity dies we all feel so sorry for them no matter how, what or why, when you hear of my husband's death, do we get the same recognition and compassion. no.....however, i know where he is coming from and god bless those who can let back in your life wrong to be made right again, as with my bro, he died, for reason of car accident but had his past history and made his amends before he died, i thank God he died with all of it behind us. sorry for all of losses out there. and hope and pray for strength with each family to carry on.
