Eddie Murphy's Norbit Nominated For Worst Film Of The Year

Posted Jan 21st 2008 6:47PM by Wilson Morales
Filed under: It's All Reel

Things aren't looking good for Eddie Murphy these days. In fact, it's going from bad to worse. Not only has his marriage to Tracy Edmonds imploded, but his last film 'Norbit', which was release last February, was just nominated for 8 Razzie Awards, including Worst Film and Worst Actor of the Year.

Eddie's not alone on this list. Cuba Gooding Jr. was nominated for Worst Actor for his dismal performance in sequel 'Daddy Day Camp'.

It's funny that only a year ago at this time, Eddie Murphy was celebrating an Oscar nomination for his role in 'Dreamgirls'. But when Paramount Pictures decided to release 'Norbit' during the Oscar voting period, it pretty much sealed his fate. Although 'Norbit' was a worldwide success with $158 million dollars, including $95 million dollars domestically, Murphy would lose the Oscar to Alan Arkin of 'Little Miss Sunshine'. More drama ensued when he was proven to be the father of Spice Girl Melanie Brown's baby, to which Murphy denied initially.

Funny enough, because he played multiple roles in 'Norbit', Murphy was also nominated for Worst Actress and Worst Supporting Actor. If he were to sweep the awards, that would be a record no one could match.

Lindsey Lohan's I Know Who Killed Me actually has the most nominations with 9, but that film came and went in theaters that no one saw it. Cuba Gooding Jr. on the other hand needs a agent who could get some good parts. He's being nominated for a role that Murphy created with 'Daddy Day Care', but Gooding Jr. is NO funnyman.

The awards ceremony will take place on February 23, 2008.

2. I Still Think That Eddie Is Very Funny. He's Just Off To A Bad Start This Year. Hopefully Things Will Turn Around For The Better.

3. I saw the movie and thought Eddie playing Norbit's wife "Fusha" was a more funny character. Eddie playing Norbit had some funny scenes. The only thing that I thought was boring and not funny was the church scene towards the end.

I wouldn't be surprised, if Eddie came out with Norbit Part 2. Despite of his off screen drama, Eddie Murphy is a talented and funny actor!

4. My mistake, Norbit's wife name is not spelled "Fusha". I just looked at the picture above and it is spelled "Putia"? The way Norbit talks in the picutre, you can barely make out what says?

5. I love Eddie, but sometimes you've got to be critical of the work offered just to collect a check. Norbit's portrayal of Black Women was worse than any word. They are not all fat, angry, man haters. That's why I was down on Norbit. I have been skeptical of Eddie's point of view on Women since his African joke about "Fufuh." You can't go to Africa and marry a girl before they appreciate money. Oprah's academy just ruined that strategy. I'll bet you didn't see that one coming!

6. I have to say that he is a telented actor. He is funny. His films always make me laugh for a long time. Thanks for his good performace. He has been spotlighted in my blog at the hot bbw chat club largeplace.com as one of my favorite actor.

7. If the facts listed above are correct, that means that this film grossed just shy of 160 million dollars. Now, call me crazy, but I'd hardly consider that a failure. In comparison to what others films typically earn I suppose this falls in the latter, but personally, though I didn't feel it was Eddie's best work, my husband and I still viewed parts in the movie where we laughed heartily. Humor is in the eye of the beholder. In other words, a single group of people who deem a film "bad" does not a bad film make.

8. No, Norbit was not a work of art, but it was funny and entertaining,
and we all need a little bit of that sometimes. I know everytime I
sit down to watch a movie, I do not want to be serious or have
analyze what's going on. Sometimes I just want to laugh out loud.
Everything that hits the big screen does not have to be Oscar worthy.
People need to get over it.

9. I love Eddie and he is a very talented man. Now, why would one think that he's putting down ALL black women when the Black women he's been with dont look like that. It was funny and i've seen women like that before of all races. So, dont think he's saying all black women are like that and stop being negative and work on yourself #5.

10. Their were probably about 10 Rasputia's on the panel that voted. I think the movie was good, I get tired of bossy controlling women who were raised to think that they have to threaten everybody to get what they want in life. It's about time sumbody clowned on them. If the movie hurts them they should get some help instead of dissing Eddie.

kenneth wade at 9:31AM on Jan 23rd 2008

11. I don't think that it is possible for Eddie Murphy to ever be a worst actor in a movie. Eddie Murphy is funny, I think, even when he is trying to be serious. If a person personally does not like the movie Norbit, that is an opinion. But to say that Eddie is a bad actor or comedian is just ludicrous.

12. His movie was hilarious.

13. THAT MOVIE IS SO HILARIOUS. MOST LIKELY THE WORST PIC OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS CAME FROM THE "RASPUTIAS" AND "PALE FACED MOVIE CRITICS"! LOLO

HI YEW DURIN!!! LMAOOOOO!! TOO FUNNY!

My One Of Many Opinions at 10:16AM on Jan 23rd 2008

14. I loved the movie and will watch it a million more times. i thought it was pretty funny and I love when Eddie plays multiple charactors. It was great to me.

15. I liked Norbit. It was Funny,it had a little truth to it.
