Oprahvision: Oprah's 'OWN' Network

Posted Jan 16th 2008 2:37PM by Denver Louis
Filed under: BlackSpin

Oprah Winfrey continues on her bid to run the world, or at least own most of it, as the media mogul/business woman extraordinaire will now have her OWN network.

The network which is set to launch by 2009, will be run by Oprah and follows her tradition of branding everything she touches as it will be called -- surprise, surprise -- The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).

As part of a joint venture between her company, Harpo Productions and Discovery Communications, OWN will replace the Discovery Health Channel in more than 68 million homes. Discovery will handle distribution and operational tasks for the new network, while both companies will work on advertising sales. The network seems to be an inevitable addition to her already expansive empire, which includes the top-rated TV talk show (The Oprah Winfrey Show), a magazine (O magazine), a satellite radio network (Oprah and Friends), a Web site (Oprah.com) and TV movies made under her banner.

The deal will in no way affect her currently running, award-winning show, as her contract does not expire until 2011.

The motivation for the deal probably had to do with her limited role in the Oxygen network, because although Oprah is an outstanding advocate and supporter of the Oxygen she wasn't able to augment its editorial content. This venture will give her that freedom:

"In addition to providing her talent, and personal commitment, Winfrey will have full editorial control over the joint venture and will be responsible for OWN's programming, branding and creative vision," stated a press release.

In essence, the already omnipresent host will now have the power to inundate her very own channel, with her very own programming 24 hours a day... for your viewing pleasure.

Despite having an rocky 07' seemingly nothing can stop Oprah... or her name.

Here's a list of some shows you might see on OWN in the future:

+'Cooking with Oprah'
+'How to Shop like Oprah'
+'Exercising the Oprah Way'
+The game show, 'Who Wants to Win Some of Oprah's Money'
+And my favorite: 'The Things That Oprah Likes Giveaway Show' (My ticket is already reserved)

Long Live the Oprah Empire!!!

1. Why isn't this fool gracious or intelligent enough to move over for the next generation? this is one selfish azz media HOGG! Even Paris Hilton had the sense to stop hogging the spotlight after a while, but not her. OH NO! We'll be bothered with this witch until someone sues her for every cent and I hope that is SOON!

2. Boy is she petty.

Oprah gets OWN network as Ellen DeGeneres overtakes herArticle from:
ON the same day it was revealed she had been overtaken as America's most popular television personality, talk-show queen Oprah Winfrey yesterday announced she was getting her own network.
The annual Harris Poll TV star list showed Winfrey - who has spent the past five years as the No. 1 personality on TV - has been dethroned by fellow talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres

Winfrey will have full editorial control over the joint venture and will be responsible for OWN's programming.

3. OPRAH OPRAH OPRAH I am so tired of Oprah. I am waiting for her to run for president. I bet she would get more voted that Clinton gets. I have watched her for years and then one day decided that people eat sleep and breathe in every word she days. She is not always right, nor is she wrong. She is just one lucky woman. I work hard and get paid shit, look like shit and feel like shit. When will it be the ordinary woman's turn. I won't be watching it just becaseu of Oprah. I will watch it if they have something on I enjoy.

4. Nope, I think she is insane. Filthy rich and insane, but that is allways the case. One day We americans will stop being dictated to by dollars and people with them. We will rise up and take control of our country. But untill then, I guess it is best to remain apathetic.

6. GREAT..MAKE SURE YOU LOOK ME UP OPRAH..I WOULD LOVE TO WORK FOR YOU SISTA!

7. "-insane, -rich, -fool"? Yeah, you all are way past apathy, pathetic is what you truly are. If you don't like her, don't watch the channel/show, buy her books, watch her movies etc. The real sad thing is that if Oprah were Caucasian, everything would be just fine in your worlds. I'm not a super fan, but when someone is realizing their dreams, and it isn't interfering with mine, so be it. Blatant jealousy and hatred is just ridiculous.
More power to you Oprah, may the Lord continue to bless you!

9. Oprah has sone good qualities and she has made some bad choices. She has been blessed to be where she is and I know it took hard work and patience. All I want Oprah to continue to realize if she doen't is that only what you do for God will last. Give all you want to and bless anybody you choose but bottom line is where will you spend eternity.

10. Would this be more acceptable if it were Martha Stewart?

k b at 10:26PM on Jan 17th 2008

11. Ah stop hatin. Oprah was not born rich so she had to work for everything she got. Just call her blessed and get over it. I applaud anyone black that makes it in this country because we are all the products of ancestor slaves and came over here with nothing so if you are black and rich, I am sure it was not given to you on a silver platter. You definitely had to work for it. Enjoy it!

12. I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED OPRAH AND WOULD LOVE TO BE A GUEST ON HER SHOW. SHE HELPS PEOPLE TO REALIZE THEIR OWN POTENTIAL AND TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE IN SO MANY WAYS. IF SHE CAN INSPIRE PEOPLE TO HELP EACH OTHER, WHAT BETTER THING IS THERE ? WHAT MORE GOD-LIKE ? SHE HAS BEEN BLESSED AND HAS FOUGHT HER OWN DEMONS TO GET WHERE SHE IS. YOU GO GIRL !

Doris Kelly at 8:06AM on Jan 18th 2008

13. Congratulations to her. She never thinks small. You never know if it will work out but she goes for it without demeaning others

14. Hogging the spotlight? Hardly. It is called doing stuff and she often share the spotlight but I already see that you don't do your research before spouting off.
