Mario Van Peebles: May Be Bringing 'Jungle Fever' To 'Children'

The BV Newswire has learned that Mario Van Peebles will join the cast of 'All My Children.'

And although it's cold outside, the acting veteran will surely heat things up in the mainstream.

On the legendary ABC soap opera, the 'New Jack City' director and star will take on the role of Samuel Woods, a U.S. District Attorney who is running for the Senate.

According to sources familiar with the storyline, the show's veteran vixen Erica Kane (played by Susan Lucci) will take special notice of Samuel, primarily as a guest on her talk show, 'New Beginnings,' but she's in store for a lot more than a spike in ratings: Samuel will soon become a nightmare, though one that could turn into a romance!

A show spokesperson didn't confirm the possibility of a hot, interracial romance but did say "maybe."

Van Peebles' first air date on the Emmy Award winning daytime drama, which celebrates its 38th anniversary this month, is Jan. 29.

The eldest son of film pioneer Melvin Van Peebles, Mario Van Peebles is an award-winning director, writer and actor with a list of credits including 'Panther,' 'Posse,' '10,000 Black Men Named George,' 'Ali,' 'Silver Spoon' and 'The Cosby Show.'

The 49-year-old Mexico City native made his acting debut in 'Sweet Sweetback's Badasssss Song,' his father's groundbreaking 1971 film.

1. I like All My Children and I like Mario Van Peebles work - sounds like a good match to me. However, I would really be surprised if the powers that be let Erica Kane in an interracial relationship. I'll be watching . . . .

2. This Sounds Very Interesting. However, I Do Wish That We Would Learn To Appreciate "Romance" For "Romance". It's Saddening When "Interracial" Is The First Thing That Comes To Mind.

3. Well, there goes his career..not being negative, but with all the talk about black men and white women, I don't think it would be a good career move at this time, ask Wesley Snipes. Also, the ratings of the show could suffer as well.

4. Is the term "Jungle Fever" really necessary in 2008?

If AMC does an interracial relationship, kudos to them.

5. I'm so glad that AMC is getting more African American Actor and Actress on the show, because I been watching AMC when it first air on tv and that been a very long time I saw to manys come and go. I love the show and like seening more Color on the show. But there a question I need to ask why? Do you alway have to have a interracial Romance to bring black on the show. Why cann't there be Successful black family on the show too.We need to reach more young viewer on the show by having younger black, making a different not just getting in trouble or going to jail or homeless, but college student- family or fiancial bless not alway as Dr.-Lawyer-Teacher- Like CEO in there own Business or Senator- Major-, back to Erica why do you alway have to have Erica to have the Romance with a black men she had ever man on TV give us a break her. Let her get back with Jack he a good men for her. If you going to bring Mr. Peeble into this bring him a Wife and family moving to Pine V.to bring back the viewer. Some of us left because there wasn't many Arician American family on the show. Yes I see that you our bring back Jessie and Angie back that good to, but how long? Mr. Peeble is a good Actor and I love him and everything he do and I know he will do well on AMC. Mr. Peeble welcome to the show God Bless you. make a different keep the rating going.

6. Ditto Pinky.

I just wish he was coming to Y & R!

7. Just be glad that the brotha's got himself a gig! Any person of color on any network show day or night is a good thing. As far as the interracial issue goes, let him have at all of the ladies! I mean it is a "soap opera" and therefore rooted in fantasy. About Wesley, he isn't on the out's due to dating White women, but for pretty much being M.I.A in Hollywood and not paying his taxes to the I.R.S.

8. I have had a huge crush on Mario Van Peebles for years and will be glad to see him on anything...I just wish he were going to be on General Hospital...maybe he could help to elevate the wretched story lines we have been having lately.
Segue...can anyone tell me how the soaps still have new shows with the writers's strike?
Thanks!

10. WELL MARIO JOINING AMC IS GREAT AND AS FOR A STRONG BLACK FAMILY, THEY HAVE THAT THEY ARE BRINGING BACK,ANGIE AND JESSIE,AND THEY ALREADY HAVE THEIR,SON ON THE SHOW, AND THEY ALSO HAVE ANOTHER BLACK ACTOR NAMED DRE,WHO MAY BE PLAYING MARIO'S SON AMC HAS ALWAYS HAD BLACK ACTORS THEY ARE JUST GETTING BACK TO IT.AND IT'S GREAT TO SEE

11. I'm glad Mario will be on, but WHY DOES HE HAVE TO BE WITH A WHITE WOMAN? There are NO African American women on AMC and Angie will always be with Jesse! What is that about? They recently tried to start an interracial storyline with Derrick and Krystal and that didnt go anywhere. The last actor playing Derrick was sexy as hell! This one they have on now reminds me of Columbo! He's just there to rant and rave. Looks like they're just looking to start anything interracial. Looks like they're doing that with Adams daughter also and that new African American young man. I think he's Jessie and Angies son.
BRING MORE AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN on AMC and please someone who's has better style then Olivia! On the show her hair is a mess with all those stupid colors nd her clothes are too tight! I saw her in public in Whole Foods recently and she's pretty! It's like AMC dresses her a mess on purpose! If they want an interacial story line make it happen between Jack and Olivia! She's strong and ethical like him! She'd give Erica a run for her money because she has qualities that Erica doesn't..., and that besides being of a different race/culture would give for great writing! But honestly..., Jack and Erica are so hot..., seperating them is a waste of good positive erotic storylines!
Mario is 50years old. They should have him in between Tyra Banks & Iman(the models), Queen Latifah & Lisa Nicole Carson (they represent the full figured gorgeous Black women),Lisa Bonet (who's eccentric, sexy, and smart), and round it out with someone older then him but who's still sexy and foxy like Pam Grier(she'd have to lose 50lbs and tighten up for the role) or Diana Ross (Miss Diva-whew! Erica couldn't even contend with her!) Wow! Now the story lines that could involve him with those woman would be hot!

12. interesting

Get it Right at 6:58AM on Jan 17th 2008

13. This would be interesting to see. But Erica is still in love with Jack. But as far as "interracial" goes, Olivia was married to Tom on the show years ago. And Opal had a son by a black man, the guy that played to spy. His name is Matthew St Patrick and his is a hottie. And Derrick Frye and Crystal started something but nothing really jumped off with that one. Frank is Jesse and Angie's son he was on the show years ago as a doctor, the new guy isn't their son. Plus Jesse died years ago while Frank was a baby.

14. AHH race is alw3ays the issue and plays apart in just about every facet of our lives. Maybe a day will come when we wont see 'Color' ; but today is not the day nor tommorrow...
