6. The Color purple was the worst movie I had the misfortune to see. Portraying blacks like that is shameful and wrong

8. Comment #6, I understand where you are coming from. However, you must consider the time period that the novel and play took place. So Alice Walker nor the screen writer were trying to protray African-americans in a negative manner. Just staying tru to the time. It would be the same if someone did a hip-hop move from the 80's and had the ladied in the big earrings and the guys with big boom boxes. Just a reflection of the time. Then, you have to remember, in the end, Celie did break away from it. So it would be more accurate to say that a character behaved shamefully. That's why Danny glover didn't allow his children to see his character when they were younger.

9. I saw Color Purple in Chicago, Michelle Williams sucked, they couldn't give away the tickets by the end of the run and I was stupid enough to pay $90 for a ticket last year this time. What a waste. Beyonce' and Kelly must have been holding Michelle up when she was a part of Destinys Child!

10. Funny, I saw Michelle Williams in Chicago with 'The Color Purple' and i thought she was GREAT!!! I was totally shocked by her performance and preferred her over the actress who portrayed Shug Avery on Broadway. Oh well, Difference of opinion...

11. Saw Michelle in the San Francisco run of "Color Purple", and she did an extraordinary job as Shug Avery. I must admit I was quite surprised with how well she played the role. Reminded me of the movie version of Shug; FABULOUS!

12. to #4 MSBEE I read last night that Fantasia is out. It is reported she may be pregnant. It is said that she has missed a total of 50 performances since she started her run causing a lot of confusion at the box office and dissapointed fans. Before you all rush to judgement understand that staring in a Broadway show is on of the most grueling & difficult jobs in the business. To do a couple of shows a day for 5 or 6 days a week is an enormous undertaking. Not many artists can pull it off. As a relatively young & unseasoned artist she is to be given much credit for what she has done and for the quality of her performances. Plus I personaly think she's hot.

Fantasia Barrino shoots down pregnancy rumors
By Missy, CBB Writer
Despite speculation online and in the New York Post, former American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino is not expecting a baby. In a statement to US, the rep for the 23-year-old star of the Broadway version of The Color Purple categorically denied the rumors as "entirely untrue." Furthermore, a rep for the show offered up an explanation for Fantasia's sporadic absences from the stage production, absences which seemed to spark the speculation in the first place.
It is true that she has missed some performances because she has gotten sick from time to time over the nine months, but doing eight shows a week is a lot so she missed a few.
Fantasia is already mom to daughter Zion, 6 1/2.

14. Saw the Color Purple several times in NYC. The cast was magnificent! I thought the simpliocity of the set made it a step above the rest. The choreography had many moments of brilliance. ( you go Donald!) I was just a little disappointed that there was no Tap dance integrated into the show. What a showstopping element could have done to an already brilliant one! Besides, an African-American show had the perfect opportunity to showcase an original artform created by the African-American culture! Kudos, to the"Color Purle" and all the people who made it happen!

15. I love Oprah and I commend her for her work in South Africa with the girl's school. However, this Color Purple thing has to stop. How can you sit there and have a problem with anyone that calls a sister out her name but you are willing to fund a movie that makes black men look like a bunch of murderers and rapist? You blame hip-hop for everything negative that happens to sisters yet you've had Halie Berry, who great acting role including a woman giving a blow job to a white guy, and another getting plowed from behind by the white guy who executed her husband.
There were many black men who loost their lives trying to protect their women and their families but I suppose to you they were nothing but fairytales. One such gentleman escaped slavery and risked his freedom to get his his wife. The slave who accompanied Lewis and Clark wished nothing more than to gain his freedom and reclaim his wife but no those men don't exist.
Comment to # 7 and 8. You all are playing into the same BS this system wants you to play into. How can you possibly say that that is how is was back then unless you were back there. The writer wanted to write a story about some abused black women in a specific period. Now you can't tell me that throughout that whole time period there was not one woman that was an adultrer, who did not claim that a man was her child's father knowing full well it was someone else? You also can't tell me that there weren't women who henpecked their husbands into the arms of other women, just like today. If this is true then the lyrics of some of the hip-hop songs are correct, arne't they?

1. The color purple would be worth going to see. It has such passion. I love the singing and dancing. The touring group is not the same one that is playing on Broadway but they're just as good. All of the actors and singers have honed their skills as singers and actors.
