Veteran actor
Blair Underwood is no stranger to acting on television. The 43-year-old landed his first break on the classic TV series 'LA Law' and more recently, played Dr. Robert Leeds on 'Sex and the City.' Underwood is back on the tube on ABC's new series, 'Dirty Sexy Money.' There is no questioning the ladies love Blair, and
Everybody Hates Marcus recently spoke to Underwood about his character, Simon Elder.
Talk about your character Simon Elder on 'Dirty Sexy Money'?Simon Elder is the third richest man in the world; he is the nemesis for Donald Sutherland's character, Tripp Darling. There is a long standing history between the families. He is one of the most fascinating characters I have played because of his background. You find out this person was raised in Russia, speaks fluent Russian. He actually speaks a number of different languages. He's that guy, who relative to the old money of the Darling family, it's considered new money, but he has had for at least a decade or so.
Are you going to be on the show for the rest of the season?
Yes, he's a series regular.
What other TV projects do you have up your sleeves?
Well, there will be three in January (including 'Dirty Sexy Money'). I will be returning to "The Old Adventures of New Christine" and then 'In Treatment' will start on HBO. It's a nightly series that will air Monday-Friday starting in January. This was a huge phenomenon in Israel and HBO and Mark Wahlberg's company that produced 'Entourage' is producing this piece. You have one psychologist, Monday-Friday, and you follow four patients for nine weeks. So, every Monday, you tune in, you will see that Monday appointment. On Friday's, the psychologist actually goes to his psychologist.
If you were a gigolo, who in Hollywood would you like to have as your ideal client?
*Laughs* Marcus, you are the first person to ask me that. I don't even know if I can answer that question and still wake up next to my wife. I am going to have to leave that one alone. Damn, I don't know ....yeah I'm going to have to leave that alone.
Were you bummed about not being a part of the 'Sex and the City' movie? Did you secretly want to break up Miranda and Steve?
No, no, everything goes down for a reason. That was an enjoyable run and I did five episodes total. It was at a great time at the life of that show and it was the final season. That ran its course for me.
Were you a fan of that show before you appeared on it?
I had never seen an episode. My wife had seen every episode so I was hemming and hawing when the invention came in. I just didn't know. She said "Are you out of your mind?" She said you have to do that show because it's a great show.
Do you feel you have been type-cast as a charming, sexy stud?
I don't look at it as being typecast because I have been able to do other roles before. I will continue to do other roles in part because I will create it myself and direct it and produce it myself, so I'm not worried about that. There are worst roles you can be typecast as, so it's something that doesn't bother me. I always have the option of saying no when an opportunity comes up. When I do say yes, it might be in a certain realm but it's different and unique.
1. This is one hot man, he oozes sex appeal and he is of a rare breed (a true man). I believe a sincere, loyal family man is the sexiest thing alive. I respect and love you Blair; you force me to keep hope alive. Brace yourself cause you are about to come into your own, it's a wonderful thing since you have already had a sip of success however you are about to drink of it. Enjoy, it's been a long time in coming but it's right on time. God bless you.
