BISHOP THOMAS WEEKS III: Blaming the Devil and Back in the Pulpit

Bishop Thomas Weeks, III

The estranged husband of battered televangelist Juanita Bynum is back in stride again.

According to published reports, Bishop Thomas W. Weeks, III didn't miss a beat during Sunday service -- two days after turning himself into Atlanta authorities for assaulting his wife -- and was met by cheers and applause from parishioners at the Global Destiny Ministries.

Good God Almighty.

Weeks said the devil was behind his current situation, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper, and also expressed appreciation for the prayers and support he and his wife have received.

As previously reported by The BV Newswire, police said Weeks assaulted the Pentecostal Prophetess during an argument on Aug. 21 outside of an Atlanta hotel.

After a media frenzy ensued about the near fatal attack, Weeks surrendered to Atlanta police Friday morning. Bond was set at $30,000 on a charge of aggravated assault and $10,000 on a charge of terroristic threats, and a magistrate ordered Weeks to have no contact with Bynum or her sister, Tina Culpepper.

But that didn't stop him from tending to his business affairs at the church he founded in Atlanta.

"We've got certain things going on right now, but I refuse to stop coming to the house God built," he reportedly said during his brief appearance before introducing a guest minister and leaving the room.

Members of his congregation didn't mind talking to the newspaper about their feelings about the controversial scandal.

"There are three sides to every story," said frequent visitor Shannon Mayers. "Nobody has the right to judge anybody. God is in the midst of that and will work it out."

Meanwhile, 26-year-old Maurice Adams said he was disappointed to hear the news but still considers Weeks his bishop. "We all make mistakes. He deserves another opportunity," Adams said. "I'm hurt, but I do respect him for being man enough to show his face today."

Weeks is due in Fulton County Superior Court on Sept. 7.

1. I think the guy is a man, a man of god no doubt! But who are we to point fingers what real couple don't fight or atleast doesn't think about going upside the oposite sex's head. I mean she not going to leave him(no divorce)it ain't the offer n money. It's love. So let's love and pray for them to stay together, for it may be a blessing to us all!

2. I have had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Bishop Weeks' father( Bishop Thomas Weeks)and know that this grieves his parents.I can't help but wonder how he claims that the "devil" is behind his marriage woes. If he is "truely" holy-ghost filled and is as prayerful as he professes, then why is it hard for him not to touch his wife in a derogatory and harmful manner? I believe that he is truely a man of God and yet it may be time for him to sit down for awhile. The one thing that is harming the church is hypocrisy ; from all fronts.I pray that this marriage survives and that they are both well.

3. I just want to say we all need to pray for them and stop putting all of this on the internet and let God handle and let them do according to what they need to do. Also the Devil is getting alot of credit is because us as christain know what to do so let's do it and put the Devil on the run by fasting and praying for them and stop all the talking. Giving the Devil more credit than he need. May God continue to bless both and due what God lay on you;ll heart. God Bless cc

5. LIVE WHAT YOU PREACH!DON'T USE THE DEVIL FOR AN EXCUSE, TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS AND ASK GOD FOR FORGIVENESS AND YOUR WIFE!

6. I believe the good ole pastor has done this before. This is really bad and embarrassing to the church and couple. They(Pastors) are always quoting the bible- I don't believe that anyone who is really living a life serving God would have so much money- I'm not saying be poor but your extras should be redirected to the community and providing training and job skills to our people. Be ashame and I worry about the individuals under their leadership almost cult like.

7. Let's pray for Bishop Weeks and Prophetess bynum. they need our prayers. the prayers of the righteous availed much. because this too shall pass. God Bless

8. THESE SO CALLED PEOPLE OF GOD ARE THE ONE'S THAT DON'T PRATICE WHAT THEY PREACH. HOW COULD THIS MAN OF GOD BEAT DOWN HIS WIFE LIKE THAT THEN SAY THE DEVIL MADE HIM DO IT, OH PLEASE.HE HAS SO FAITH HIMSELF THAT'S WHY HE DID IT. HE WILL NOT GET FORGIVENESS FROM ME, HE HAS TO ASK GOD FOR THAT.

LORRAINE at 7:43PM on Aug 28th 2007

9. Domestic violence is a crime. "Bishop" Weeks could have killed this woman (maybe next time he will) and instead of going to jail, he's up in the pulpit?? OH HELLZ NO. This is some bullshizz and you all need to need to educate yourselves. I am a Christian too but he needs to step up and take responsibility too and leave the devil out of it. As far as I'm concerned, HE IS THE DEVIL. Did you know that more women were murdered by the their husbands in the last five years than the total number of Americans killed during the Vietnam War?? Yes, all you MEN need to recognize; next time, maybe she'll be like that poor woman on Oprah who got acid thrown on her and only survived due to the grace of God. I thank God that woman is alive to tell her story. You all need to educate yourselves. For realz. Click on this link if you want to free your mind:

10. PLEASE!!! I guess the devil put those bruises all over his wife's neck too. Visit http://executees.net

11. It was a shame, also it was only a stepping stone to make Juanita stronger in the Lord, so the trick is on the devil.

Tina at 8:27PM on Aug 28th 2007

12. We as Christians should be praying for Bishop Weeks and Prophetess Bynum. Marriage is the first line of attack for believers. I pray for forgiveness and healing for both of them. Keep doing the work of The Lord, and hold your heads up like the KING AND QUEEN, that God has called all of believers to be(WE ARE ROYALTY).

TUJWINA GONZALEZ at 8:30PM on Aug 28th 2007

13. I believe everything we say or do is based on a decision. Outof the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. If he said He would kill her then thats what was in his heart. What if the bell boy was not there? He may be facing attempted murder charges. I know people personaly who worked for him, and the man has two two or three diferent personalities. What he did was not he devil it was a decision.

chris at 9:20PM on Aug 28th 2007

14. All of you christians should shut up.You are all a bunch of hyprocrits,as for the members of his church you should be ashamed. The God I serve would not support abuse. It's time you christians started reading your bible and pray to god and stop worshiping these so calle d pastors, it is obvious you are not worshiping god

althea ross at 9:44PM on Aug 28th 2007

15. I will pray for Pastor Thomas Weeks but my heart goes out to Juanita because this is her second marriage in which she was abuse. A real man walks away and relize that he has a problem and get help. Iam not saying he is not a man of God but what you do in the dark will come to light. You see this had to of been going on for some time now and it was hidden but God had to expose him for the person that he really is in order to protect Juanita someone else needed to know. God is God all by himself and he don't need no help but we do thats why sometimes he allow things to happen certain ways in order for us to lean on others. Pastor Weeks need to stop giving the devil so much credit and admit to himself that he has an angry problem that needs to be address.
