STAR JONES REYNOLD: Ready to be 'Tru'

Posted Jul 17th 2007 12:12PM by Karu F. Daniels

Star Jones Reynolds new Court TV talk show 'Star Jones Show' premieres Aug. 20 and the soon to be revamped network.Though it's not the cover of 'Essence' nor 'Ebony' magazines, Star Jones Reynolds plans to finally reveal the whole truth about her dramatic weight loss in the Sept. issue of 'Glamour' magazine.

"I wrote an article because I really wanted to go as in-depth as possible about the way I've changed physically over the last 10 years on the air," the former co-host of ABC's 'The View' said on Sunday, during a Court TV press conference for the Summer Television Critics Association Press Tour.

Reynolds, who drew ire from her critics when she described her whopping 100-pound-plus weight loss as a "medical intervention" said she has no qualms about viewing photos of herself when she was very super-sized.

"I actually like seeing the old pictures because what it says to me is, 'You never allow yourself to get there again,'" the 45-year-old member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. said. "It was dangerous to me. Very dangerous. I was killing myself."

"I thought that that would be the most effective way to answer everybody's questions," she explained about the feature, titled "Getting Over Myself."

star jones reynoldsPerfect timing considering that Court TV is going through its own metamorphosis: the network will be renamed truTV and move away from its traditional programming.

Kicking off the newness will be Reynold's eponymous talk show, titled 'Star Jones Show,' set to premiere Aug. 20. It's described by the network as a forum for criminal justice issues that intersect with the pop culture world.

On New Year's Day next year, the channel will be officially re-launched. Still offering court coverage for six hours a day, the Time Warner-owned network is also developing series on female bounty hunters in Miami, con artists and life-or-death rescues.

1. This is good for Star but it is nobody's business how she lost weight. The fact that she did it and is healthier is all that matters...

2.

5. starr you look good , but please change the glasses

clara at 9:15PM on Jul 17th 2007

6. Hi Star you look just wonderful don't worry about what the people say.your new look is perfect good luck keep up with the new look.

Susan at 9:38AM on Jul 18th 2007

7. You Go Girl!!! Tell your story, when...where...how you want to. The View did not make you, you made them. Look at where they are today...struggling. They need a whole new makeover in my opinion. Barbara was pissed you left on your own and without her "permission" or knowledge. Star you are exactly that...a star. Keep your feet grounded and you will do well.

8. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that she lost that weight by either liposuction or the lapband, or gastro bypass surgery. Regardless, I just hope she's had an attitude adjustment to go with the new body, because she always appeared to be a pompous know it all.

camri at 2:58PM on Jul 18th 2007

9. If Star was going to reveal how she lost the weight, she should have done so in her book. This beating around the bush is getting old and she should be really careful from a public relations point of view. She did not handle herself well in the interview and the media appeared to mock her. (Not a good sign for a come back).

dj at 3:10PM on Jul 18th 2007

10. I like Starr Jones-and like her when she stops being a white woman's "mammY" (big, fat black and gereasy)-got rid of the weight and got happy and helathy. Too bad when a black woman gets happy they have to loose their jobs in the process.
No black women should allow America's white owned media to tell them that being 300 plus pounds is O.K. and healthy. You cant be over 200 lbs-(if your a female) by natural means-that is due to bad eating and a bad lifestyle on junk, processed and fast foods.

11. But being fat is no reason to ever wear a fur-lined demin jacket.

Lexibest at 12:26AM on Jul 19th 2007

12. I really like Star, but her new look, to me, would be better without the glasses, the straight hair, chopped off and the color of the hair. I am proud of her, but her former looks were very pleasant, warm and kind, now she looks like a carbon copy of a wanna be white. Go back to your roots Honey, don't ever forget where you came from. Thank You.

Rosalie Haynes at 6:21AM on Jul 19th 2007

13. I think Star looks great its never too late to make your health better .I know Star is doing this for herself and i must say keep up the good work Star .

Leon G at 7:20AM on Jul 19th 2007

14. Star I don't care how you lost the weight you look great! you are a wonderful, strong, black woman and I applause you for that. In My book you will always be a Star

Tommie Dukes at 7:32AM on Jul 19th 2007

15. I think you look great thinner. You do what you have to do to stay healthy. I'm happy that you left The View, too much drama, B. Walters seems to be too controlling in an undercover way. I liked your comments on criminal law during the OJ Simpson trial. Just continue to live out the "Purpose for which God has planned for you, not man."
