NOTABLE/QUOTABLE: Hillary Clinton on AIDS

Posted Jun 29th 2007 1:57PM by Angela Bronner
Filed under: AIDS: 25 Years and Counting

Hillary Clinton on AIDS at Howard University, June 28, 2007

"Let me just put this in perspective: If HIV-AIDS were the leading cause of death of white women between the ages of 25 and 34 there would be an outraged outcry in this country."

-- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton at the third primary debate between Democratic presidential candidates held at Howard University in Washington, DC, June 28, 2007.

Other Democratic hopeful, Sen. Joe Biden urged people to be tested for the AIDS virus, noting that he and Barack Obama had done so.

Cracked Obama: "I just want to make clear I got tested with Michelle," his wife, he said drawing laughter from the predominantly black audience. (Source)

4. The statitics are incorrect. Give me some solid proof about the HIV. So far, the finger been pointed at Blacks. And I know that is a lie, unless they are including the Black in south Africa.

5. Let's talk about AIDS and keep it real. There's no outrage because AIDS isn't as threatening as it once was. AIDS is now becoming more of an opportunity to make money and discriminate than a public health crisis. In America, HIV doesn't generate the fear or respect of the population. We look at the people with AIDS as if they did something wrong or due to their behavior, they deserve it. Hillary's comments about White women is partially correct because we'd wonder what were these women doing to deserve AIDS. We don't care what Black women are doing to deserve AIDS because some don't value them all all. Hollywood is trying to identify those with AIDS and those who test negative to determine who can be devalued. AIDS is none of our business. It cannot be used to discriminate or devalue anyone regardless of color. It cannot be used as an opportunity to make money from someone's pain. AIDS is a crisis being handled the wrong way. Discrimination is never the answer. A virus doesn't care about your race, your job, or if you can afford health care. The problem is most of us just don't care if you live or die. All we care about is not catching it by forced testing. It won't work if you don't care who you have sex with for business or pleasure.

6. hilary is right. let some pretty, high profile, white lady come out and say that she has AIDS and next thing you know, the health care she needs to survive would be there. also, ppl would be coming out of the woodwork to try to help, "those like her." it's fucking twisted man!

10. Hillary Clinton need to stut the fu_k up! Her whore of a husband, Bill, were in the White House for 8 years and were busy stealing everything that was not nail down. She didn't give a fat rat about Black people then and will only use them every chance she get!

BETTYEJ at 7:16PM on Jul 5th 2007

11. Hillary,as always on point again.

Alnisaa1224 at 8:17PM on Jul 5th 2007

12. She's just discovered that the press, health care, and charity fund raising are all racist? WOW!!

The Rev. Theolinda Knight at 11:13PM on Jul 5th 2007

13. I;m sorry although Hillary made a point, the core of her analysis was racist. aids is color blind, and a lot of rich white women do have the virus but either it's downplayed or as the law required is kept confidential (as it should be) Hillary Clinton is just an opportunist, she is playing on the sentiments of the black females in order to get more votes. I just pray my black sisters are ahead of the game and can see through the bull---t she's throwin out! If she was really concerened about the black women she would've convinced her husband in his eight years in office to say the same, as that hasn't happened it proves to me she'll do anything to become the first female president- no holds barred! (Black people "wake up smell the fertilizer before the grass starts growin!")

Dave at 11:14AM on Jul 6th 2007

14. WHAT A SOUND BYTE!! WHAT HAS SENATOR DONE ABOUT THIS WHILE SHE HAS BEEN A SENATOR? WHAT LEGISLATION OR PROGRAMS HAS SHE SUBMITTED NOT JUST FOR HEALTH OR HIV AIDS; BUT FOR ANY INNER CITY URBAN ISSUE LIKE UNEMPLOYMENT; JOBS,CHILD CARE; ETC? SHE KNOWS ABOUT THE ISSUES;BUT WHAT PRECISELY HAS SHE DONE DURING HER TENURE IN THE SENATE? THE ANSWER IS NOTHING!! HERE AGAIN BLACK AMERICA IS BEING TREATED LIKE CHILDREN BY DEMOCRATS--GIVING US CANDY SO WE CAN BE QUIET AND PACIFIED

JAY at 11:15AM on Jul 6th 2007

15. While Hillary's statement is true, it is so sad that Barack Obama couldn't have said that. He would have been acused of playing the race card. Am I right?
