BIG BOOM: Ex-Pimp Tells Ladies to Close Their Legs

Posted Mar 29th 2007 3:10PM by Felicia Pride
Filed under: More Than Words

Would you take relationship advice from an ex-pimp?

That's the question that Fireside/Simon & Schuster is hoping tons of women will answer with a collective yes! when the publisher releases a paperback version of If You Want Closure in Your Relationship, Start with Your Legs: A Guide to Understanding Men.

Written by Big Boom, an ex-pimp and hustler, who is now reformed, the book is touted as down-to-earth advice on how to create a fulfilling, loving relationship. A celebrity bodyguard, Big Boom calls himself "the bodyguard for women's hearts." In his book, he accepts his call to duty by exposing "women's weaknesses" and showing women how to avoid "Mr. Never-Gonna-Happen, Mr. Infidelity, and a variety of other Mr. Wrongs."

I've only flipped through an advanced copy of this new edition because I'm always interested in what men have to say about how women should interact with them, which can range from the absurd to the insightful. But apparently, many women have already sought the straight-no-chaser advice of Big Boom. According to Simon & Schuster, the original version of If You Want Closure in Your Relationship, Start with Your Legs, was an Essence bestseller. Look for this new edition in June.

1. I've been married over 25 years and I won't take advice from a "Pimp". To acknowledge being a "Pimp" admits "You ain't got no love for Women". This fact negates any possible advice they may provide. Let me give a piece that works. Most men will play, but all Black man are guaranteed to play. What are you going to do about it? If you wimper in a corner waiting for him to value your gifts, then you can't win the game. You are one step closer to becoming a Lesbian. They want a submissive woman. If a woman can't handle herself they can't help a brother win the game. He will find someone who can. It's actually not about opening or closing your legs. Sex is highly overrated and dangerous. Why do you think so many players prefer a Clinton and a lap dance? If you want a relationship open your mind, get on your knees, and get the money first. If you've got real skills, relationships find you. Handle your business and baby that's a beautiful thang. You'll be Beyonce. Oh, you know women cheat too, but they just don't tell you. A good relationship works for you.

2. Although I haven't read the book, I'd be skeptical of anyone (especially an ex-pimp) who holds one gender over the other to be more responsible for obtaining a successful relationship. It takes two people to have a healthy and successful relationship, not just a woman to “keep her legs closed”. How freakin’ ridiculous…most would just get sex elsewhere…say Brazil! Women should “keep their legs closed” because of her personal convictions, not to get or keep a man!

3. First Cecil Jones it's comment like all Black man are guaranteed to play that inpower no good men who do play. I'm a black man that has not play on my wife because I have God in my life. Know to the rest of the women it's not about a book that a pimp wrote because if you know about the real book the bible it wouldn't even be a question on how to conduct or live your life. God Bless and I love all of you my BLACK QUEENS.

4.
Here is something to think about. Now that Bill Gates is retired from his company; would you still take business advice from him? Congratulate someone when he or she turn over a new leaf in life; especially when it's from an undiserable position. When you decide or decided to leave your past behind and follow Jesus,do you or did you think that he (will)(judge) judged you based on your past?

5. I am going to have to give my support to 'Big Boom' simply because he was in the business. He came in contact with an array of women, each with her own personality and issues. For someone to try to discredit this author is merley slandering out of ignorance and bias. He clearly had the population to observe women and her various ways of thinking. He is giving advice to women who need to end relationships FROM a man's perspective. Women are emotional beings so our judgement is often inhibited when our feeling become involved therefore supporting our desire to fulfill whatever needs is empty. Ladies, we need to be truthful with ourselves cause clearly, if a man can read us this easily, there is a problem.

6. That might be worth a lok. Many women are just out to get the money - if he has a fine car, flashy clothes, and a wad of cash, then he is worth being with - that is how a player can draw women in. The nice guy who studies in school, works a decent job, and is not a troublemaker is largely ignored as not being exciting - well, an exciting life can be real short - just fall of the ledge of a roof and the trip down can be very exciting. Where are to good men - they are the ones many women would pass up as not being stylish, not being exciting, not being hip - the clowns and the players know this and gauge themselves to attract women who are out to exploit - and turn the tables on them. The guy who might be a wimp might be the right man - he might be the one paying the bills on time, providing a good home, not fooling around with anything in a skirt on the street, and the list goes on and on.

7. We need all the information we can get.Forewarned is forearmed. I want to know all I can. Knowledge is sooo powerful, get it or lose the battle

8. I commend Big Boom for stepping and trying to help women to stop and THINK. STOP & THINK. Clean up your life, and stop letting men deposit their trash in you.
Respect yourself, or nobody else will.

monika spencer at 8:37AM on Apr 1st 2007

9. I am also an ex-Pimp who was in the game for over 10 years but have now been married for over 21 years. There is a wealth of information a pimp can lay claim to concerning women and relationships. Women were our life and source of labor. So pay attention.

TooSweet at 8:54AM on Apr 1st 2007

10. Pimps up hoez down !

Elizabeth at 9:56AM on Apr 1st 2007

11. Ok, let's begin by arguing the book does NOT bring the main point to be closing your legs as the way to respecting yourself - the author simply wanted to use that aspect as a start. You start from the outside, then work inward. Now, you're going to have folks from different walkls of life who many have an equal amount of gems to share. You can object to what you read, or support what you read, but saying, "I'm not gonna give attention to so-so, because (s)he used to be a [blank]," is about as ignorant. I will be taking a look at this book.

12. I think the best way to show a man how you want to be treated-is by treatng yourself that way first, eliminate any questions or guesses.

veronica at 10:59AM on Apr 1st 2007

13. Where's my damn suppa, woman!

charles wallace at 11:30AM on Apr 1st 2007

14. TO VERONICA:
THAT EXPLAINS IT ALL!!!
UNTIL WE DO THAT, NOTHING IS GOING TO WORK IN OUR FAVOR!! YOU SHOULD BOTTLE THAT QUOTE AND SELL IT GIRL!!

wanda at 12:43PM on Apr 1st 2007

15. Does it really matter that this guy is a pimp? Hell it only tell women that this guy knows what men really wants because he has sold it before. Granted i may not agree with his ex choice of employment but maybe just maybe this guy knows what he is talking about. Women can't really understand men without advice from another man. Thats why we ask our male friends questions. And men can't really understand women without asking their female friends either.
