OPRAH WINFREY: Hollywood's Most Powerful

Billionaire media mogul Oprah Winfrey ranks at the top of Black Enterprise 2007 Hollywood Power list.Today, 'Black Enterprise' magazine unveiled its 2007 list of the Top 50 Power Brokers in Hollywood, and topping the list is The Almighty O a.k.a. Oprah Winfrey.

Through her Chicago-based Harpo Productions Inc., the billionaire media mogul produces her top rated daily talk show, along with 'Dr. Phil' and 'The Rachael Ray Show.'

Winfrey, who is the co-founder of Oxygen Media -- which operates a cable television network that reaches 69 million U.S. households -- has also helmed made-for-television movies such as 'Their Eyes Were Watching God,' and 'The Women of Brewster Place.'

As an actress, she starred in 'The Color Purple,' which netted her an Academy Award nomination, 'Native Son' and the Jonathan Demme-directed 1998 spectacle 'Beloved.'

Two-time Academy Award nominee and box-office superstar Will Smith graces the cover of the magazine with his business partner James Lassiter. The 'Fresh Prince of Bel Air' star, co-owner of Hollywood production company Overbrook Entertainment, ranks at number 3.

Time Warner chief Richard D. Parsons is Number 2, and basketball legend turned business tycoon Earvin "Magic" Johnson comes in fourth.

(l-r) Will Smith and James Lassiter grace the cover of the March 2007 edition of Black Enterprise magazine.According to spokesperson Andrew Wadium, the groundbreaking black business magazine's news editor Nicole M. Richardson and an editorial team contacted industry insiders, movie studios, and television networks, reviewed box office sales and television ratings reports to compile the list.

Although boldfaced names such as Spike Lee, Queen Latifah,, Ice Cube, Tyler Perry, Forest Whitaker and Tyra Banks made the listing, African American corporate executives, agents, lawyers, and entrepreneurs -- who broker some of the industry's biggest deals -- also made the roster.

The March issue of 'Black Enterprise' is due to arrive on stands Feb. 21.

2. Oprah being at number 1 is no surprise. Most of these people deserve it for their hard work. Only one comment out of 3 days!? If this was Ray J's tape article or some bullshit like that, it would be 50 comments. My people, my people.

3. Black people are brilliant. I know it, you know it,and they know it and it leaves them speechless. It also leaves us speechless at times.

9. Definitely plan to get this issue and keep as a reminder of the positivity being reflected by our people. Congrats to Oprah, Will & James, Richard and Magic for coming in at the top of the list. What an honor! I admire the hard work they [and those on the rest of the list] have contributed to the community. All of you are doing us proud!

10. Oprah, You are an inspration to all women on earth, I watch your show everyday and at night if I can not catch you in the day, I am so proud of you, your show is bigger than life Keep up the good work and I hope I can be on your show one day and meet you in person. Thank you.

Abeni Enifeni at 7:31AM on Feb 17th 2007

11. It really is wonderful to see our people doing well and getting notice for the positive. I agree with one of the others that wrote, if this was some slander against one of our own this message board would be full!! But anything uplifting we don't feel the need to acknowledge...if we don't lift our own who will? Time to expand our minds, go pick up an issue of Black Enterprise this month instead of Essence to see what new position will make you happy in bed.( Not to say that there is anything wrong with Essence...I love it and get it each month as do I with Black Enter., what I saying is it won't hurt to add some knowledge about finance) Knowledge is Power!

13. Oprah is one of Mississippi's greatest African America.I salute you Oprah along with other Mississippi great African America.

Henrietta Richmond at 8:56AM on Feb 17th 2007

14. God Bless Oprah, Will, Queen Latifah and the others who've made the list. And kudos to the founder/publisher of the magazine. I'm happy to share their work with both my children and students. I only wished that their stories of struggle, hard work and success was published more widely in the mass media. Maybe radio hosts and t.v. programming could talk a little more about them and a lot less about 'beef' between artists and the latest rapper arrest.

yvonne at 9:05AM on Feb 17th 2007
