But after hearing about his interest, adult film company Zero Tolerance approached Tyson about the possibility of appearing in one of their films. He turned down the offer because of -- that's right home gamers -- moral issues.
"We're a little disappointed and a little bit surprised,"
Greg Alves, president of Zero Tolerance told Softpedia News. The response we received hinted Mike might have some moral issues with being associated with the adult industry. To be candid – that wasn't the response that we expected from a man who has always welcomed controversy."
The Academy weeps quietly.
Endorsements Don't Stop for FlashFirst EA Sports, then Converse and Gatorade and now Topps wants a little Flash. The Topps Trading Card Company has signed a multi-year exclusive spokesperson deal with Dwyane Wade, putting Shaq's sidekick alongside
Allen Iverson,
Alex Rodriguez, and
Barry Bonds as Topps exclusives.
"It is an honor to partner with The Topps Company and their team of elite athletes and entertainers," Wade said in a statement.
The deal gives Topps exclusive rights within the NBA trading card industry for autographed cards, memorabilia cards and his image use on packaging and advertising.
"We are very excited to have one of the NBA's brightest young stars under our umbrella of exclusives,"
Warren Friss, Topps Vice President, said in a statement. "Dwyane is an amazing player and we believe his trading cards will perform at the same level of his on-court game."
T-Mac and Adidas Connect for New CampaignHouston Rockets forward
Tracy McGrady will debut his Adidas T-Mac 5 this fall, and the ad campaign for the shoe is taking it back to one of McGrady's best games ever. The "Folklore" ad campaign was unveiled last weekend during the barn-burner USC-Notre Dame game. The ads focus on T-Mac's playoff game against the San Antonio Spurs in which he scored 13 points in 35 seconds.
The commercials retell the story of that historic night through the exaggerated stories of kids "recalling" the real event -- from T- Mac dunking a ball while grabbing a stack of quarters off the backboard, to his taking on the whole arena as he flies above the crowd to make a final shot. Look for the shoe to hit stores on Oct. 28. Look for the Rockets to lose in the first round again seven months later.
Kareem Abdul Jabbar Gets His Producer CreditAlthough most of us are familiar with
Kareem's Hollywood chops in
Bruce Lee's 'The Game of Death,' 'Airplane!' and 'BASEketball,' Jabbar is putting on his producer hat. In 2004, the NBA legend wrote 'Brothers In Arms: The Epic Story of the 761st Tank Battalion, WWII's Forgotten Heroes.' It is a story about an all-black tank battalion's 183 days on the front lines of the Battle of the Bulge. Co-authored with
Anthony Walton and featuring stories from surviving members of the battalion, the book examines the inept leadership, racism and supply problems the battalion was forced to deal with.
The book was a critical and commercial success, and Jabbar is now executive-producing the film version of the project. The screenplay is near completion, and production only a few months away.
Reggie Miller Gets Corny, Produces MovieJust because
Reggie Miller is retired doesn't mean he's going to be sipping on lemonade in a rocking chair on his porch. First of all, you can see Reggie, all 500-feet of him in a cornfield maze in Greenfield, Ind.
The landowners,
Jay and Kim Hine, are hardcore Pacer fans and paid cornfield artist Shawn Stolworthy to cut the cornfield in the image of Miller to honor his 18 seasons of hoops in Indianapolis.
"It's corn and it's basketball," Jay Hine told the Indy Star. "That's Indiana." Take a look at the Reggie Miller corn maze
here.In other Miller news, the future NBA Hall of Famer is looking to spend some time in Hollywood. Last week, while guest hosting "Regis & Kelly," Miller announced that he was partnering with
Hilary Swank and
Chad Lowe to produce Beautiful Ohio, a film about an Ohio family "coming of age" in the 1970s (IMDb.com's words, not ours). The film will star
William Hurt,
Julianna Margulies,
Rita Wilson and Michelle Trachtenberg and is currently in production in New York.
Also look for Reggie to get his
Cheryl Miller on and spend some time analyzing the NBA on TV this season.
