Separated at Birth?

Carmelo Anthony acted more like Namond from "The Wire" than a philanthropist in the Knicks-Nuggets brawl.

Even though 'Melo was trying to rep West Baltimore and get his Bodie on over the weekend (actually, "The Wire" character Bodie wouldn't backpedal like that, but Namond, who 'Melo resembles, might), he's still doing good things for his old 'hood. Two days before the Saturday night fight, Carmelo was in his hometown of Baltimore helping save a local Boys & Girls Club. He donated $1.5 million to the Living Classrooms Foundation to support the newly renovated and newly named Carmelo Anthony Youth Development Center.

The center currently serves 200 children a day. It offers after-school tutoring, mentoring, sports and recreation, arts, computer technology and summer camps. Center director Valencia Warnock is hoping to grow the program to 1,000 kids, an encouraging sign since the center almost closed last year.

"Last December, we were going to close our doors and I went to the Baltimore Housing Authority and Living Classrooms Foundation and told them we have a problem," Warnock told the Baltimore Examiner. "These walls were gray. It looked like a prison. Carmelo made this possible. Our classrooms have been redone, too. Everything."

'Melo apologized after realizing that all those kids he met earlier in the week might have been watching the ugly last few minutes of the game against the Knicks. "I apologize to the fans, the Denver Nuggets, the NBA, my mother and my family for the embarrassment I have caused them. I ask you all for your forgiveness," he said in a statement. "What makes this all the more painful is that this was one of the most important weeks of my life. I just realized one of my biggest dreams when we opened the Youth Center in Baltimore that bares my name. To see the community excited and hundreds of kids smiling was an incredible feeling. Now the thought of thousands of kids seeing this incident on TV pains me. This is not the example I want to set. It's my hope that we work to move forward from this event, and never let something like this happen again."

Fine ... we guess we can forgive you.

    Big Papi drops $200K

Boston Red Sox star David 'Big Papi' Ortiz has nothing but love for his homeland. Big Papi recently headed home to Dominican Republic and dropped $200,000 towards the Hospital General de la Plaza de Salud in his hometown of Santo Domingo. The money will be used to improve the hospital capacity to heart surgery on children. There is a waiting list of 600 children awaiting heart surgery.

"There are a lot of people who need help from people like us," Ortiz told MLB.com. "Hopefully, the athlete who has the capacity to collect money to help people will do it. Sometimes, we have no idea how many people we help around this planet. I am very excited about what I am doing and I'm going to keep doing it as long as I can. ... They need it and I want to help them out. People need help, and basically if you can afford to do something to help somebody out, I don't mind."

Heed the words of your Papi!

    Tiki Barber's life after football

Ever since Tiki Barber announced his plans to retire after this season, he's been getting a bunch of offers for his post-NFL career. Barber has already shown his broadcasting chops every Tuesday on Fox News as part of the "Fox & Friends" crew. He also has his Sirius NFL radio show every weeknight with his brother Ronde called "The Barber Shop" and it could be more after January. Tiki's manager has already met with Fox News Channel, Fox Sports, HBO/ ABC, ESPN, and CNN to see what they're offering. There are even rumors of Tiki possibly joining the team at "20/20" or "Good Morning America."

"Sometimes you just feel a calling greater than the NFL," Barber told USA Today last week. "I'm crossing over to world events, entertainment, sports because that's what I'm interested in. That's what I see myself doing, delving deeper, being provocative."

We respect Tiki's broadcasting prowess, but let's hope he doesn't get a daytime show trying to compete against Tyra or Megan Mullally.

Vince Young, Matt Leinart unite for the kids

Last year, Matt Leinart and Vince Young headlined one of most entertaining Rose Bowls in memory and became pretty good friends because of it. Now the two rookie NFL quarterbacks are coming together this off season on an initiative to benefit their foundations dedicated to helping kids.

"Matt Leinart -- that's my homey," Young told USA Today. "We'll be doing some business together."

"My agent, Chuck Price, tells me it's like Magic (Johnson) vs. (Larry) Bird," Leinart told USA Today. "Vince and I have a chance to do a lot of great things together on and off the field. We came into the league off the Rose Bowl. We remain boys, rooting for each other. I'm just hoping we can get to the Super Bowl before Vince does. But there are a lot of opportunities for us to help in the community."

Apparently one foundation, Impact Player Partners, an organization that helps kids whose family members were killed or wounded in Iraq, is one the two stars are looking into.
