While the sports world continues to debate the outcome of the
Super Bowl (Seahawks got jacked, y'all) and diss the halftime show (we didn't realize 'Satisifaction' was that long!), those who didn't go to the game are getting over their partying ways. Which parties were fresh and which parties were bunk in Detroit? Well, we don't know… we weren't there, but we heard that the best parties had to do with scantily-clad women.
Parties hosted by Maxim and
Sports Illustrated were supposedly the hot spots over the weekend.
Terry Crews ('Everybody Hates Chris'),
Lennox Lewis,
Mike Tyson,
Wyclef Jean, and a host of others were chilling with Maxim Magazine at The Max M. Fisher Music Center while Detroit Shock player
Swin Cash,
DMC of Run-DMC, former Pittsburgh Steeler receiver
Lynn Swann, former Boogie Down Production rapper
D-Nice, along with dozens of
Sports Illustrated models got down at the Emerald Theatre for the SI party. Apparently
Eminem made a quick appearance at his Shady Records party that saw
Trick Trick, and
Obie Trice perform at the State Theatre.
John Legend performed alongside
The Four Tops and
Martha and the Vandellas at the Masonic Temple for Motown's Music Festival while
Usher, Jessica Alba, Master P, and
Paul Rosenberg played games in the basement of the Gem for the PlayStation Game Over Party.
Actually Usher partied quite a bit over the weekend. Friday, he was chilling with
Diddy at his Cashmere Party and hung out at the ESPN Next Party. On Saturday, he threw his own party, but still made it out to the Playboy and Maxim parties. We're sure he needs some rest.
Snoop Dogg hosted his Snooper Bowl on Saturday that had his Snoop Youth All-Stars play the Detroit Police League All-Stars at the Pontiac Silverdome. Snoop's crew won 39-6. Later that night, Snoop performed at the Penthouse Party held at The Vault.
Everything didn't go so well at other places however. Some fans paid $150 to hear
LL Cool J rock the mic at the Fine Arts Theatre, but L didn't take the stage and just walked around the venue. And a party held at Bookie's Tavern advertised that Eminem,
Proof,
Kid Rock, and Piston and Lions players would come out and party but they never showed up. No celebrities were even at that event that some folks paid $170 to get in to.
Maybe it's good we didn't go. Check out the photo galleries of the Super Bowl party scene in Detroit at
Detroit News and
the Detroit Free Press.
Pro Bowl Continues NFL Party in HawaiiCouldn't make it out to Detroit last weekend? Well, make sure you head to Honolulu, Hawaii this weekend to catch the Pro Bowl parties. Although few parties have been announced, LL Cool J is scheduled to redeem himself after not doing a set in Detroit by performing at the Pipeline Café.
Kid Capri,
Biz Markie,
The Roots,
E-40,
Raekwon (of Wu-tang) are also scheduled to be doing DJ sets and shows this week at spots like the Pipeline Café, the O Lounge, Hard Rock Café, and Zanzabar.
We'll see you there... maybe.
Usher Ousted by Cavs? One more thing about Usher, he's been pretty absent from Cleveland, where last year he became a minority owner of the Cavaliers. According to an Associated Press report, Usher hasn't been to one Cavs game this season, hasn't been in the city in sometime, is not mentioned in the Cavaliers media guide as an owner and his music is hardly ever played during games. What gives?
Neither the Cavs or Usher have said much on the situation. Well, Usher's publicist, Simone Smalls, did give AP one quote:
"Usher is still a minority owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers and remains very active in building the brand."
Hmmm… Last season, Usher was active. He appeared at a press conference saying Cleveland would be his second home, was guaranteeing victories in the middle of Cav games, and started a new trend calling the team "Double C," which fans picked up on.
This season? Nothing. Nada. Zilch. We'll see what happens.
Nike Offers Athlete Wake Up CallsDid you ever dream of waking up to the voice of
Amare Stoudemire,
Maria Sharapova,
Justin Gatlin or
A-Rod? Well, Nike is offering you the next best thing, a recorded wake up call from a Nike endorsed athlete (No
LeBron though), set for any phone number at anytime. All you have to do is go to the
Web site, accept and continue (no confirmation code is required), select an athlete, put in the time, phone number and how often you want them to call you.
There have been some grumblings from people who have had their phone numbers entered into the site as a practical joke from friends... oops; did we just open a can of worms? Oh well, have fun with it.
Laila Ali Doesn't Want Her Kids BoxingLast week while
Laila Ali attended the World Boxing Council's Night of Champions in Cancun, Mexico, she said that she would not promote her kids to take up boxing.
"I'm not encouraging anybody else's kids," Ali told the Asociated Press. "So why would I encourage my own? No. I'm crazy, but I hope my kids are sane. If my kids wanted to fight, and they definitely wanted to do it, then of course I'd support them. But I'd definitely not take them to the gym and try to put on the gloves -- none of that."
At the event, Ali was awarded the Female Boxer of the Year. Since taking up professional boxing in 1999, she is 22-0. She is currently scheduled to fight an unidentified boxer April 20.
