Stephon Marbury has already been doing big things with his clothing line, now he’s moving on to television. According to the New York Post, Marbury has already recorded demo talk shows of him interviewing
Kobe Bryant,
Chauncey Billups, and
Steve Francis, and is lining up one with
Mark Cuban.
"It's fun," Marbury told the Post. "It's a lot easier to speak to basketball players. I get certain things out of them because you're going through the same things that they're going through. The lives that we live are different than anyone else’s. You can relate to the person you're speaking to better than you [the media]. It was a great interview [with Kobe]. A lot of things people wouldn't be able to get from [Kobe], I can."
Marbury is currently pitching the show to different outlets. He’s had a couple of offers, but his reps are looking for the right deal with the maximum amount of viewers.
Tiger Needs Jesus and BuddhaAccording to the New York Post,
Tiger Woods was at an event last week for Nike executives and other important people like
Clear Channel CEO Mark Mays,
Louis Vuitton North America chief Daniel LaLonde and
Details magazine editor Daniel Peres. The event, called “Tee it up with Tiger Woods”, featured a private golf lesson with Tiger, a lunch and a question and answer session. Most of the people there were asking about golf swings, but one Nike guest stood up and asked, “Have you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior? And if not, prayfully, would you?”
The paper’s source said the room went quiet but Tiger responded coolly saying: “My father was a Christian - of course Christianity was part of my life - but my mother is Asian and Buddhism was also part of my childhood, so I practice both faiths respectfully.”
So would that be Buddhanity?
Mike Tyson is…Mike Tyson
started his exhibition tour last week and has been doing a media blitz talking about all kinds of stuff. One of more provocative topics is his idea about fighting a woman in his next exhibition tour, specifically pro boxer
Anne Wolfe
who is 21-1 with 15 knockouts.
"She's such a prominent, dominant woman in the boxing field," Tyson said. When the Associated Press asked if he was joking about fighting women, Tyson said, "I'm very serious. It's all fun. I'm not Mike Tyson. I'm not 20 years old. I'm not going to smash anybody. I'm not going to talk about smashing anybody's brains. You're not going to see that guy no more."
Well, at least he won’t threaten folks about eating their children.
Tyson has also been going around campaigning with Republican senate candidate for Maryland Michael Steele. Tyson said that he used to think that Black Republicans were sellouts, but after meeting Steele and learning about him changed his mind.
"We have to open our eyes more," Tyson said, as he pointed to his T-shirt.
And for those wondering if he’ll ever try to fight his way back to the top, Tyson said that he has no desire to box professionally again.
"I don't miss it at all," he said. "I realize that I'm retired and I'm just not into the game anymore."
In June 2005, after Tyson quit his last match, after six rounds against Kevin McBride, he said he was finished boxing professionally. It looks like he’s keeping his word.
Vince Carter Gets Taken to School
Last week 5th grader Alexander Garcia was the most popular kid in his class. Garcia won the Take-a-Net to School contest and had
Vince Carter pick him up at his house in a limo and take him to school. Carter spent the day at PS 282 in Brooklyn and kicked it with Alexander and his friends.
“I’ve done a lot of school appearances, but I’ve never seen energy and excitement in kids like this before,” Carter told the Brooklyn Graphic about the crowd of people showed him love at the school. “Even with the parents and teachers as well and that’s what it’s all about. It’s all good fun and something they’ll always remember, so it’s always worth it. That’s what it’s all about - to come and of course have a good time with Alex and meet his friends and let him become the star for the day. Everyone’s going to look at him as a hero and it’s important for us to just come out.”
About 100 kids, parents, and teachers watched and cheered for Vince and his new friend Alex as they stepped out of the limo. Looks like Brooklyn is ready for those Nets to come on over from Jersey.
Big Papi Plays Wiffle BallIt’s funny that Red Sox super star
David 'Big Papi' Ortiz
never played wiffle ball growing up in the Dominican Republic but he got the hang of it really quickly when playing with 30 kids in the Boston suburb Weston. Three
Harvard Business School graduates chipped in $30,000 at a charity auction for
Good Sports Inc. to get an afternoon with Ortiz.
"Good Sports has been doing great things in the community," Ortiz told the Boston Globe. “I think it's a really good thing because some kids who don't have enough money to buy sports equipment, now they'll have some sports equipment to play with."
Good Sports partners with sporting goods manufacturers to turn every dollar raised into $2 of equipment. Last year, Good Sports secured more than $1.2 million worth of equipment and helped 42,000 kids through grants of equipment, footwear, and uniforms.
