In the book Simmons goes off on getting "intimate" with his teammates, getting addicted to crack and becoming a cheap prostitute. He also talks about dressing in drag, throwing toga parties for his fellow athletes, and spending time in jail.
These days all of that is behind him though: Simmons has his life together and is a supervisor at a Long Island halfway house. Look for the book in bookstores now.
Boost Mobile Taps T.O. for CommercialEver since the Eagles suspended
Terrell Owens indefinitely earlier this year, sports fans everywhere have wondered what he's been up to, what his plans are for next season and what will come of the rest of his career.
Well, for those of you that watched the Broncos put it down on the Patriots last Saturday, you saw T.O. talking about the last three months ("It's been three long months,") and his eagerness to get back on the field ("I'm running routes in my head right now"). He also offered this little tidbit on his attitude issues: “I'm different!” he proclaimed during a 30-second commercial for Boost Mobile.
The commercial was scheduled to air only one time, so don't expect to see it on TV again. You can, however, view the commercial
by clicking here, along with behind-the-scenes footage in which T.O. basically gives his life story and plays jokes on the staff. Let's hope T.O. doesn't go off on Boost Mobile for not making the commercial longer, or not giving him enough TV time, or refusing to restructure his endorsement contract.
Eddy Curry Gets Down With the 'Entourage'After the New York Knicks walloped the Washington Wizards a week and half ago,
Jerry Ferrara, who plays Turtle on the HBO hit show "Entourage," went into the locker room to give them team congratulatory pounds. Ferrara found out that some members of the team were big fans of the show.
Eddy Curry was giving creative advice, suggesting that Ferrara needed to get more action on the show.
"They need to make sure you get some of the pretty girls this season. You usually get stuck driving the guys around in the Hummer," Curry said, according to the NY Daily News regarding Turtle's role on the show.
Ferrara replied, "Talk to my boss about that."
Curry said that he would and called up one of the show's producers using Ferrara's cell phone. We'll see what happens when the shows comes back on this spring.
Big Papi Graces Cover of MLB '06: The ShowNow that
Johnny Damon has left Boston for New York,
David 'Big Papi' Ortiz is making his case for being the most popular Red Sox player in the city. Helping to usher in that popularity is his appearance on the cover of MLB '06: The Show. Set to hit stores on March 1, right in time for spring training, the video game includes a slew of new features such as Rivalry Mode, King of the Diamond and the ability to manage your 40-player teams.
What Ortiz is most concerned with, however, is how his character is in the game. It seems as though developer Sony Games was making Ortiz a little bit better than he actually is.
"I was playing and I hit a ball and they said it was a triple," Ortiz told IGN.com. "I don't hit that many triples. It was the first time in a while, I feel fast."
For now, Ortiz is planning on hitting as much as possible as he gears up for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic.
KG Drops New Adidas shoe
Even though his T-Wolves are struggling this season,
Kevin Garnett is still putting up superstar numbers, which is the basis for his "What's Inside" Adidas shoe campaign. Commercials started last week where KG stars as different characters: a super hero, a gladiator, a military sergeant, a kid and a comedian.
"KG offers something special and the idea of 'What's Inside' was tailor-made for him" said Uli Becker, Head of Global Brand Communications for adidas in a statement. “We tapped into the heart and strength of Kevin Garnett in 2004 when we showed masses of people climbing onto his back in 'Carry.' This time we wanted to tell an equally impactful story, with just as much truth."
KG's a3 Garnett '06 signature is now available and will set you back a cool $120. If it's the shoes that make Garnett so fresh on the court, maybe he should get his teammates to get down with the program.
Melo, Portis, Others Hawk Maryland/Virginia Area CarsYou ever see
Carmelo Anthony weave through bad credit or
LaVar Arrington tell bad credit to "Stay down Punk!!!"? The folks at Eastern's Automotive Group in the Maryland and Virginia must have some good connections. The company got superstar athletes like Melo, Arrington,
Clinton Portis, and
Brendan Haywood appearing in their commercials beating down bad credit.
The athletes shout the company's slogan, "Where your job is your credit," in some poorly produced, used car salesman authentic commercials, but apparently they've been catching on. The company made the commercials available for download at its site
here.
