When
LeBron James arrived in Denver to play the Nuggets last week, he was whisked off by Nike execs to shoot a commercial at a local YMCA in nearby Glendale (it's actually like a town in the middle of Denver). We don't know yet exactly what King James was pushing, but the dozens of elementary and teenage kids that got to meet him didn't care.
LeBron stuck around after the shoot to sign autographs and talk with the kids who were there participating in the free after school program.
According to the Rocky Mountain News, Glendale City Manager
Jerry Peters arrived at the rec center to give James the key to the city, but he had already left to get ready for the game against the Nuggets.
"I stopped by to welcome him to the city," Peters told the News. "They would hardly let me in the door."
Seriously though, Glendale is like three blocks long. What's the key? A paper clip?
Shaq Gets the "Saw" TreatmentShaq recently made a cameo appearance in the flick
'The Kid & I,' which stars
Tom Arnold and he appears ready to continue his thespian ways in 2006. Shaq recently filmed a scene for the upcoming film,
'Scary Movie 4.'The Big Fella along with
Dr. Phil wake up in a bathroom, wondering where they are. The scene is a parody of the horror flick, 'Saw.' We've seen weirder scenes than this though, and Shaq's hugfest with Kobe Bean on MLK Day could be the scariest ever.
The film will be released April 14 and mercifully contains no Wayans.
Chauncey Loves the Kids!Denver native and Pistons star
Chauncey Billups has always been down with both his hometown and his pro-town, Detroit. He has often donated money to help underprivileged kids, and now he's continuing that tradition with this year's Chauncey's Kids Roundup, a program designed to bring more kids out to see college basketball at the University of Colorado, Billups' alma mater.
Billups has committed to give $100,000 to CU over the next four years that will go to the purchase of 10,000 tickets per season for underprivileged kids in the Denver and Boulder communities.
"I'm very, very excited for this opportunity to resurface back in the community in Boulder," Billups told the Denver Post. "To give the kids from my neighborhood and other neighborhoods the opportunity to come out and see some great college athletics; it's unbelievable."
Chicago Bears Celebrate 20 yearsYeah, it's kind of sad that a professional football team has to throw a party to celebrate the last time they won a Super Bowl since they won't be going there anytime soon. But hey, any reason to party is a good reason right?
This week the Chicago Bears are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their 1985-86 Super Bowl win. The party is scheduled to happen Jan. 26 at The Registry, a party bar in Chicago. Among the expected guests are:
Steve McMichael, Keith Van Horne, Otis Wilson, Dennis McKinnon, Shaun Gayle, Jim Covert, Emery Moorehead, Calvin Thomas, Reggie Phillips, Thomas Sanders and Jim Morrissey who were all apart of the '85-'86 Bears team.
49ers Brandon Lloyd Preps Rap DebutAhh yes, another athlete looking for that hip-hop super stardom. But really, who wasn't trying to be a rapper or singer in their teens and early 20s? 49ers receiver wide receiver
Brandon Lloyd (or B-Lloyd on the stage) is taking his hip-hop career quite seriously. The aspiring emcee recently announced his debut album, 'Training Day,' is set to be released this fall on his own record label, Flight 85 Records.
"I can't talk about drugs and shooting people, because that's not who I am," Lloyd told MSNBC . "I can study all that, all the rappers who talk about that, but I can't say what they do. I can talk about football, cars, being in the club, stuff like that. I curse. It's not a children's album. It's tailored for people who do what I do, who like what I like."
The album has been in making for over a year, but that's okay, he'll have plenty of time to finish it up since the 49ers really have nothing else going on.
