Jay-Z Chooses Nets Song WinnerJigga’s own mini-version of “Hip-Hop Idol” ended last week after he chose the new theme song for the New Jersey Nets. Coming from Manhattan’s
Michael ‘M Bars’ Barnes, "Going Hard" apparently captures the energy that Shawn
'Jay Z' Carter and his people were looking for.
"In 'Going Hard' M Bars completely captured the intensity of Nets Basketball and the flavor of our game experience," Carter said in a statement. "He obviously put a lot of time into the song and demonstrated a lot of talent. We're a hot team and this song best matches our passion and energy."
As his reward, Barnes will get to perform the song during halftime of the Nets game against the Knicks on April 19. Barnes will also get it to kick it with Jay-Z and record the song professionally at Baseline Studios.
"I'm a huge Nets fan and Jay-Z is my idol so I wanted to make this song really stand out," M Bars said in a statement. "It's such an honor to be recognized by Jay-Z and I can't wait to perform at the game."

Reggie Bush: Endorsement King?Dude ain’t even in the league yet and he already has a bunch of corporations wanting to get a piece of him. So far the No. 1 projected NFL draft pick, running back
Reggie Bush, is fielding offers from soft drink companies, cell phone people, car manufacturers and even candy makers. But who does he sign with first? That’s right, Subway!
He recently filmed a commercial and exclusive footage for
Subway Fresh Buzz, a website totally dedicated to him. The site includes a bio, a gallery of photos and a video blog which puts you behind the scenes of Bush’s life. Basically it’s his little reality show on the web. There will be 15 videos posted over the next few months and a live chat with the running back on April 27.
Neon Deion Sanders Getting Down With AFL?Deion Sanders and the AFL? It could happen. We’re not talking about him playing in the AFL, even though his stint with the Ravens could qualify him for the league, Sanders is interested in being an owner. He recently met with the Austin Wranglers to talk about ownership options. Sanders is currently an unrestricted free agent and is more than likely going back into retirement and do the owner thing. Unless…
"If I don't like what I see, I may just have to go down there and play," Sanders said in a statement. "You never know when I might put on a uniform."
The president and general manager of the Wranglers are hoping to wrangle Sanders on to the ownership team.
Roy Jones Jr. Continues Hip-Hop Route, Leaves HBOHave you been wondering why
Roy Jones Jr. is no longer roaming ringside during HBO fights? Apparently, the cable channel was asking too much of him. In an interview with
Allhiphop.com. Jones said he couldn’t commit to their demands.
"HBO told me I had to start coming in there three times a week, Thursday, Friday and Saturday," Jones told
Allhiphop.com. "And, me, I love life, I love what I do and I really can’t give them three days a week. Two days, we’d be fine, but three days I can’t do."
Jones is moving closer to doing hip-hop full time. He manages his record label, Body Head Entertainment, on a daily basis and is currently partnering with Trick Daddy’s 845 Entertainment for a slew of projects with
Trick,
Choppa, Rush,
Bone Crusher and
3D, a group that includes his sons. He plans on putting out his second album at the end of the year.
As far as fighting again, Jones is leaning towards retirement, but gets a fire in him when other boxers call him out.
"I kinda like when people call me out, like this boy Joe Calzaghe calling me out after he beat [Jeff] ‘Left Hook’ Lacy," Jones said. “That kinda stuff is, ‘Are you a man or a mouse?’ That’s the kind of stuff you used to do for a living. It’s hard to say no when that’s what you do.”
Can we suggest just staying off the mic, please? And the whole "Body Head" thing is suspect.
