After opening the season with 13 straight losses, A&T's men's
basketball team has a three-game win streak after Monday's 60-42 win
against Morgan State. That's the Aggies' longest winning streak in
four years.
A&T, under second-year coach Jerry Eaves, has struggled with six walk- ons on the roster, but could have a say in the MEAC race. The Aggies (2-13, 2-4) shot better than 50 percent for the first time this season against Coppin State in a 78-71 victory Saturday.
While A&T is starting to find its way to the winner's circle, Delaware State continues to roll.
The Hornets are unbeaten at 6-0 in MEAC games and have a two-game lead on Florida A&M, which at 9-9 is on the verge of becoming the first league team to go above .500.
Coppin State's Women Still Own MEAC
The Eagles extended their consecutive conference wins streak to 14 with an 82-48 victory over N.C. A&T Saturday. Coppin (7-8, 6-0) is winning with shooting. The Eagles shot a season-best 56.3 percent from the floor in drubbing the Aggies.
Rattler Strikes
Florida A&M guard Tony Tate is on a tear. The 5-11 senior averaged 25.5 points 6 rebounds and 3.5 assists for the Rattlers in a pair of wins last week, good enough to merit league player of the week honors. Tate has scored 30 points or more in seven games this season, including three in a row for the Rattlers.
From the Track
FAMU finished second in the 4x1600 relay Jan. 21 at the University of Florida's Indoor Invitational in Gainesville. The team of Brian Griffith, Erick Ward, Brandon West and Tim Vidal finished in 10 minutes, 37.88 seconds. The 4x400 squad of Stanley Suber, Rod Peterson, Stephon Jones and Omari Crawford took fourth at 3:20.14.
The Rattler women posted 13 top-20 finishes at the same meet. Lindsay Thomas (58.76 seconds in the 400 meters), and Shantrice Green (8.21 in the 55 meters hurdles) posted the best results, with ninth- place finishes. Thomas' time was a personal best.
