Alabama A&M Goes Up Top to Defeat TSU

HUNTSVILLE, ALA. — Kelcy Luke passed for four touchdowns to lead Alabama A&M to an easy 48-24 victory over Texas Southern on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (4-1, 2-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) jumped out to a 21-10 first-quarter lead and never trailed against the Tigers (0-5, 0-4), who were penalized 12 times for 104 yards.

Ulysses Banks, who rushed for 112 yards on 17 carries, scored on a 9-yard run in the first quarter to cap an eight-play, 77-yard drive for Alabama A&M.

Thomas Harris caught six passes for 82 yards for the Bulldogs, including touchdown catches of 20 and 27 yards. Luke also threw a 4-yard scoring pass to John Smith and a 12-yard touchdown pass to Gerald Stockdale.

TSU was led by Tino Edgecombe, who completed 29 of 59 passes for 352 yards and three touchdowns but was intercepted three times. Brian Haith caught nine passes for 133 yards, including a 32-yard scoring toss in the first quarter, for the Tigers.

Jeremy Licea kicked 37- and 42-yard field goals for the Bulldogs, and Djavan Conway had a 30-yard field goal for Texas Southern, which is idle this week.
