Williams Named Top Coach

George Williams, legendary track and field coach of the 2004 U.S. men's Olympic team and athletics director of Saint Augustine's College, was named the 2006 NCAA Division II Southeast Region Men's Coach of the Year and the 2007 Division II National Men's Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The prestigious honor places Williams among the elite coaches in all of college track and field programs.

"You continue to ring that bell year after year," St. Aug's President Dianne Boardley Suber said. "What a legacy! Thank you for your continued positive efforts on behalf of your alma mater and the athletic program."

The Falcons recently won the mens and womens D-2 national indoor track and field championships.

" Chelsea Jeter, a junior guard and native of Baltimore, Md., ranked 16th with an average 3.2 steals per game.

" Antoinette Smith and junior Tenisha McArthur round out the quartet. Both averaged 2.4 steals per game and tied at 70th in the nation.

" McArthur, a native of Red Springs, N.C., averaged 8.4 rebounds during the season, good for 73rd on the listing.

Last year, the Lady Broncos led the nation in steals per game. This year was no different. They were ranked first with an average of 19.5 per game.
