The Growth of Islam
American Muslims, and their more than 1 billion brethren around the globe, are celebrating the end of Ramadan, a period of fasting and prayer and the holiest dates on the Islamic calendar. On Tuesday they will celebrate Eid-al-Fitr, the feast that marks the end of Ramadan. Many non-Muslims will be invited to break the fast with their Muslim neighbors and join in the festivities. Still, after 9/11 many American Muslims believe that their religion is under suspicion and their patriotism called into question. "This is a test," says one leader.
