Of course a story had to be done about this. She is a celebrity but my God at least she's doing something. Both mainstream and blogging post forums have just lost their perspective or maybe not in quoting and presenting this story. The situation is real. It is as real as the need to sensationalize a story. The children of Africa need to adopted by anyone who can afford to get them out of those God forsaken orphanages. And they should not be adopted by anyone who desires to exploit them for money. She did nothing wrong!! Can you maybe do a post on the fact that she, Madonna, possibly did a good thing? Lets talk about how so many children in Africa are forced to pick up guns and fight wars for Gods knows who. Lets talk numbers for life expectancy and causes of death for children and young women in some of those countries. My God they are an endangered species. Some of the most beautiful people in the world. Bright intelligent minds, with very short futures. Unless someone, yes even Madonna steps in to do something. Let's talk about their life expectancy, the children of Africa with regard to rape, torture, starvation, death from simple treatable diseases, murder and AIDS. While every country in Africa is not at war there are just too many that are and our children are caught in the middle not being given a choice or a way out. Children in this country are suffering too much also. But at least they have a chance to prosper and have never been forced to pick up guns and go off to war in my life time. And before you quote me Iraq stats with respect to the average age of those young soldiers, let me assure you I am anti war. but that is a totally different beast. Americans can stop that B.S. with their voting power and right to protest. Children in Africa seem to have no rights. Thank you for your time.

It is really nice that the celebrities go and visit Africa, perform, make quotes as to how easy is would be to do this or that to turn on a water faucet. Wishful thinking. I am a American and I lived in those situations. It is nice that they give up their time to promote their careers, but are they helping those people there? I spent two years training the Nigerian Military to simulate actual situations that their military and civilian forces encounter everyday. This was done with computer simulations. They were taught how to use computers to fight the real world situations that were happening in country. The learning curve was like a kid with a new toy. They did not want to stop. Flash pictures and all of those things are great. But perhaps they need to look at the root of the problems and really see the real picture. These people need help. We do not need to give concerts to promote our celebs. Doing that is great. But when do you see the outcomes of the benefits of what was pledged during the visits. Check your family tree. You may have relatives there. I have been there, lived there, and so much want to do all I can to help them as well as educating our people here in the states. These people that can afford the blackmarket CDs, DVDs, etc.. do not see the real Black Americans. They only see the ones that go over with all of their riches and the people there think that is the way all Black Americans live. Not True. Some of us actually work for a living and are never recognized that we are the ones that bring reality to these people eyes and are never recognized by all of our celebs. We do it because we served our country and still do. Get a real grip and realize the these people that train these foreign countries are so talented. They not only think about their own families, they put themselves in harms way to make it better for those in different countries at the same time trying to may a better way of life for their own families. We love all of the talented celebs, but please recognize those that make a living with out all the flash are real people as well.

I am 56 years of age and therefor I have seen the uncivilized conduct of racism in America. I lived throughout the sixties, seening newspaper pictures of Black men lynched, while white people gathered around laughing, as though they were at a family reunion celebration. I have written this statement to make the point that, there have been public officials who have compared the homosexuals struggle to the civil rights struggle. Julian Bond made this same comparison recently. I respect mr Bond; however, I feel sadness and deep despair with this. I adamantly oppose violence and I do not advocate any unfair treatment of homosexuals; however, their lifestyle has absolutely nothing to do with the struggles of Black people, from the days of Christ to the present. This is a grave insult for anyone to even associate the two.

To Whom ever it may Concern, I don't think that the problem lies with Jay-Z alone or lack of understanding with Jay-Z and the imposition of African underdevelopment, but also the lack of standards with Africa itself, for the music of Mr. Jay-Z is rather vulgar, insulting and superficial. For I believe that its highly unusual and profane that in the U.S. that the African-American community young artist, get riches and fame by an art that insults that community, and that community celebrates this artistic form of music. I seem to be seeing that Africa is following that same path in its celebration of the artists and the entertainers that it invites...... This is profoundly sad.... For I remember reading that Mr. Jay-Z was not allow to perform his self-hate and garbage in the People Republic of China. I say right-on for the Chinese..... Your Reader Theresa.....

O.k. So, I just read Remy Ma's quote about why Missy won the BET best rapper award. I've only heard one song by Remy Ma and was not impressed. One of my main problems is, yet again, one of our sistas is talking about how she's making her man "feel so good". Yes, sex is a nomal part of life, but come on! It's the same old cookie cutter rap. What happend to the real rappers, the street poets? I'm only 22 years old and this is just getting plain old tiring. Remember when Public Enemy set the voice to what was going wrong in the black community? Or Tupac's ode to women, "Keep Your Head Up"? We as black women are facing a new epidemic by enormous proportions. It's called AIDS. It's not a white gay disase anymore sistas. And still we act as if it doesn't exist when we are more than the majority of new AIDS cases. How long are we going to create music just to make a dollar and have the nerve to call it art. That's as trite as a painter painting unicorns and fairies. Get a clue. Maybe Missy didn't deserve he award, and I don't think Remy Ma should either.

Msjancy wrote …

i totally disagree with beyonce's comments on lauryn hill. While i really like beyonce as an artist, she has definitely lost some points with me. i mean how can you blatently insinuate that lauryn is not comfortable in her own skin, i mean she has done things that a lot of women would not do because they are not comfortable with whom they are, (think about it). furthermore, how can you knock someone for going through an inevitable experience, something she had no control of, something she couldn't just cut off her emotions from ( like any other human being), but had to deal with it the best way she knew, or was advised how. in addition, lauryn is much more than a singer herself, as a matter of fact, beyonce does not nearly have the level of intelligence and wisdom of various capacities as lauryn. word to the wise beyonce" you dont have kids, you've never been married.......... should i say more ? never knock someone, especially if you have not walked in the same shoes.....

Dear Beyonce; It's just like a broad like you to kick a sister when you think their down. You'll never lose yourself like Lauryn Hill. How dare you? You can't touch the realness as Lauryn has. You can't touch the people soul as did Lauryn. Sister Lauryn may be going through some difficult times. Did you try and reach out to a Sister? No you go and say you'll never lose it like she did. Its just like a weave wearing sex selling babe like you. You can sing your but off, but your spirituality is gone. You sold it. Yeah your hot right now, but as the years come and go you will be in the archives like Witney. Don't kick a sister when you think their down. Luvleeladyakd wrote ..

Hello, I make very few comments on the quotes I read, but Miss Beyonce has lost her cotton picking mind. I happen to be a Lauryn Hill fan and an individual who gets annoyed everytime I catch a 5 second glimpse of Beyonce. I aint a hater, I just do not like, (nor have I ever) liked her music. We are around the same age and so when I was in high school and the old DC started singing I was feelin them. Their harmonies were tight and I may have been a long term fan if not for all the drama that happened. I happened to have really like DC when it was Beyonce,Kelly,Latoya, and Latavia. After the split they didnt sound the same and I jumped of the band wagon. Anyway Lauryn on the other hand, I admit the girl has got issues, but I still love her. I still await her return to her rightful throne. I bought the Miseducation album at least 5 times and I am about to buy it a 6th (the cd is so good that I have had to replace it several times over the years due to it mysteriously walking away). Anyway, I dont think that Lauryn lost who she is, I think Lauryn is hurting, I think she needs prayers, I think her latest antics and outbursts were misdirected and that she is dealing in the only way she knows how. Inspite of her shortcomings Lauryn has one thing going for her that Ms B does not. She has never alienated, and tried to publicly humiliate friends that she has had since elementary school. We celebrate Lauryn for a reason, at least I know I do. I sing, and until Lauryn Hill I always wished I sung and looked differently. Lauryn made the world accept people that look like us. She was beautiful, dark and lovely. Her hair was natural-she helped me loved me, dark skin, she helped me see the beauty in my natural hair, she made me take pride in having a singing voice with a deeper range. With that said, I think that her comment about loosing herself like Lauryn Hill is the most inappropriate and disrespectful things anyone could say. Even in Lauryn's lost self as she puts it there is something that Ms. Hill (as she wishes to be called) has that seems to be missing with the aforementioned Ms Knowles. When has Beyonce ever had an identity outside of her father, DC and now Jay-Z? Correct me if I am wrong but isn't this the same girl gyrating and throwing herself onstage and in video to a guy (Jay-Z) who seems oblivious and disintrested in what she is doing? Have we ever seen Ms Hill do that? Isnt this the same person who (according to rumors) tried to usurp the success of former BF and DC member Latoya by allowing her album to be ordered before the official reease date? In my opinion you cant loose something you never had, and although Lauryn is going through whatever she is experiencing right now. I think we need to still embrace her. All is not lost. She is a genius musically, and unlike Beyonce actually has acting skills and more to her than hype. I am and have always been (ever since Sister Act 2) a die hard fan of MS. HIll. If she never makes another album, it will be sad, but I will appreciate what she has done. Beyonce can make 2000 albums and I will never buy nor listen to nor download them. You couldnt pay me to listen to, watch or pay for anything that this girl participates in. So I think she needs to take a chill pill and realize that sometimes some things are better left unsaid. Why she gotta play Lauryn like that or at least attempt to? Lauryn has more talent and realness than Beyonce will ever hope to have, and this is one fan (who at one time actually liked music that Beyonce sung) will always be true to Lauryn Hill. Her music and her success and even her turmoil has changed my life. If I had the chance to say so I would tell Miss Hill that she is missed, and loved. Music hasnt been the same since she left the game. No one can rock the mic, singing or rappin like her. She is much needed in the industry, and if she decides to never return I say thank you for the lyrical gems you gave us in the fugees and on your solo album. I admit I was lost and stunned by the unplugged release but I will always love and cherish the gift you gave on the Miseducation. I dont care who wrote the songs, without your voice they would be bland (and plain irritating if sung by Beyonce). I hope you find the peace and joy that you need, and I wish you well Ms. Hill. Beyonce can take a hike, fall of the face of the earth, or just plain go away and I wouldnt miss her one bit...the girl just aint it like everyone says she is. At least not to me and that is my opinion and i dont care who likes it and I aint hating on her cuz I have no desire to be her, look like her, and God forbid sing like her, the only thing she has that I aspire to have one day...and trust me I am preparing to go to Law school so that i can make it, is money. With that said I hope I havent been too harsh, I normally ignore any story or show or movie that involves her (I am just not a fan) but I saw the name Lauryn Hill and my attention was caught. I guess she had to do something in order to catch folks attention, says something negative about a troubled star...Comfortable in her own skin...that maybe true but what about being comfortable in your own body? Seems to me she cant make up her mind to have a little extra or be a little thin....so much for having your own identity, some people dont even read stories about you unless it involves someone else, MS Knowles!!!!!

I was watching CNN news on Friday mornining Lou Dobbs 3:45 a.m. and saw a news report I thought was horrible and made me down right mad as hell. a Louisiana parrish school board ordered the early retirement of a school bus driver (with pay). The scholl bus driver who is white was the driver of elementary aged african american children she made all of the children to move to the back of the bus using very derrogitory racial words and the childrens bus seat had "KKK" written on the seats. The children crying and very upset told their parents who demanded the bus driver to be fired well needless to say there was infact a meeting but only a hand few of the parents were allowed into the meeting and none of the parrishs black leadership was allowed into the meeting neither the mayor nor the city councilmen memebers were allowed into the meeting and neither would the school board members discuss any of the allegations pertaing to the bus drivers racists remarks and actions stating that it would cause too much time and too much money. It is time for the leadership in our community to stand up for young people instead of walking around in a false sense of security Malcolm and Dr. King are indeed gone but their work was far from finished they left us handing us the batton to keeping fighting to pick up where they left off It is time that we educate our young people about our rich legacy the good, the bad, and the ugly explaing to them that this generation is the most richest and the freest that blacks has experienced since our ancestors brought over as slaves we must explain to our children that the freedoms that they are experiencing is what so manyof our ancestors fought and died for explaining to them that racisim is alive and well in the form of Jim Crow Jr. esq. that he no longer is riding around on horses with white sheets but he is cleverly undoing the laws and rights that our ancestors fought valliantly for.Since so many of our warriors from the Civil Rights Era are beginning to die out it is our duty to glean as much information from them as we can so that we can train up the next generation of Civil Rights Leaders who will be fearless in the face of tyranny because of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina we are in desperate need of leaders who are fearless and is not afraid to stand up for the truth.
