ATLANTA -- Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman yesterday touted President Bush's signing of the renewal of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 as an example of the G-O-P's efforts to reach out to black Americans.

In a brief address to the National Urban League in Atlanta, Mehlman echoed President Bush's recent speech to the N-double-A-C-P. He spoke of Bush's record on improved education, home ownership and job opportunities for blacks, as well as his plan for aid in Africa.

Still, Mehlman acknowleged the party has not done enough to win back black support. He said, "the party of Lincoln will not be whole again until more African Americans come back home."
