There is nothing worse than having your makeup pull a disappearing act, whether it's creasing eye shadow or eyeliner that heads south. Never fear, though: with the right techniques and products, your next makeup application will be sure to stick around.

• Powder eye shadows and liners are the way to go for lasting color. Cream shadows and liner pencils will quickly mix with the oils in your skin causing them to crease, fade and run. If you prefer using a pencil to line your eyes, use an eyeliner primer over your liner to keep it in place.

• Loose powder is an essential in keeping your makeup is place. Simply put, it gives your makeup something to adhere to. Dust eyelids and face after applying a foundation and before applying blush or eye shadow.

• Waterproof mascara has plenty of staying power because it forms a layer around each lash to protect it from water. But while waterproof mascara will minimize smudging, it can also dry out your lashes. If you have dry, brittle lashes try using a vitamin-rich formula to avoid breakage.
