Twista's Letter to God

Twista

I wrote a letter to God because my grandma told me to put it in the Bible. The very next day I fired my management. It was due to the information they were giving me. I didn’t realize what was going on, I was just acting out -- doing what I felt was right. When I looked back at it, I realized what happened.

In 2003, for a minute, I thought everything was going downhill with my rap career. After rapping for a long time and not seeing anything out of it, I really wanted to give up. Then I had a talk with my grandmother. We had a discussion about faith. She told me something that she does. She told me to put a letter in the Bible.

‘You pick the page that you want to put it on. Write a letter to God and put it in the Bible,’ she said. At this point I’m so out of it, I’m willing to do anything. I prayed hard that night. I wrote the letter. I put it in the Bible and the very next day stuff went in shambles.

I got into it with my manager. I got into it with the attorney. I got into it with the record label. Over a period of time of 2-3 weeks, I realized what had happened. I put the letter in the Bible and the very next day, the people that I needed to get rid of, I ended up getting rid of. To make a long story short, probably a month after that letter went in that Bible I was renegotiating my new contract and working on my new album.

Before the letter there were definitely thoughts of changing things. I didn’t know that certain people around me might have been untrustworthy. I didn’t know what needed to change, but I knew that I needed to do something. When I put the letter in the Bible, it wasn’t like I got the answer. God don’t do it for you. That’s the big thing right there. People always want something done for them. He helps you do it. The next day when I get to firing people, that was the God in me working and that’s how my prayers were answered.
