A family affair: Mathew Knowles first clients were his daughters, Beyonce and Solange; His closest advisor is his wife, Tina.
On Having Faith in Pursuit of Fame:
You must realize that there is a power greater than yourself. Faith is when you are willing to submit and have confidence that the power that is greater than you will be present in your decision making and be there in your day to day life. Faith is when you quit your job and don't have the finances, but you believe in something and believe it’s going happen despite the visual, obvious challenges you have to face.
On Being a Father, Manager and Business Man:
When you look at Music World Entertainment, Beyonce, Kelly and Solange are an important part of that, but they represent collectively 50% of what I do everyday. So my focus is not on just my kids. And I do consider Kelly my daughter. She has lived with us since she was 9 years old. We run a real business. I have to stay focused. One of the greatest challenges is to be able to make business decisions that are not emotional. That's a big challenge for parents that manage their children. I have spoke to a lot of them and a lot of them do a good job. Thankfully I bring 20 years of corporate experience to the music industry which has been very beneficial.
Sometimes I have to stop my wife and say, ‘Tina, that's emotional. That's not business.’ It’s a challenge but the one of the things I've learned is to be blatantly honest with ourselves and our clients. Having my kids as my first client is one of the reasons we've been so successful. Our honest relationships and understandings of who we are were already in place.
On Being Passionate:
Hopefully if you go back and review any of my comments or statements, they are not defensive. Hopefully you will see that they are passionate. I am very passionate. Don't confuse passion for being defensive. Like with Sunshine Anderson, another artist that is a part of the Music World Entertainment family, I am passionate about her. I am passionate about her because of the challenges she has faced so early in her career. Similarly with my kids I am passionate about their challenges, their goals and their successes. It’s because I believe in them.
