The 38th Annual NAACP Image Awards were broadcast live for the first time ever on Friday March 2. The star-studded affair was hosted by rap pioneer and hip-hop legend LL Cool J, who many thought might attract the younger audience the NAACP has been struggling to connect with for the last decade. But while Cool J's turn as host was uneventful, it was the speech given by U2's Bono as he accepted the Chairman Award that stole the show, and it wasn't because of his blatant admiration for reality TV maven Tyra Banks. Bono preached about the need for cooperation within the African-American community in the fight against AIDS in Africa and the U.S. Black Voices was backstage at the Image Awards, seeing what stars like Keke Palmer, Smokey Robinson and Jennifer Hudson had to say about the night. You can scroll down and watch any of their exclusive interviews. To the surprise of many, NAACP President Bruce S. Gordon resigned the following Monday, after leading the organization for only 19 months. Is the organization's failure to keep new talent on board a sign that it's growing further out of touch? We're not so sure. But a good place to start is with the show itself. Did you watch it? Take the poll to the left and let us know.
