While Eminem is the artist usually associated with Detroit hip-hop, Slum Village hopes to change that. The duo of Elzhi and T3, along with releasing the group’s fifth album titled ‘Slum Village,’ is also appearing in a serious of television ads promoting Chevrolet’s 2006 Impala and HHR automobiles. With Super Bowl XL upon us, BV sat down with the two MC’s from the 313 for a special Pre-Super Bowl Off Topic.

Super Bowl 40 is in your home town of Detroit. What is your favorite moment from a past Super Bowl?
The commercials. Always the commercials. Hopefully they will run our spot during the Super Bowl. We’re hoping that we get the opportunity but we will see.
You did a TV commercial for the 2006 Chevrolet Impala. What is your dream car?
I got to say Chevy now because they are paying me really nicely. They gave us cars. I got a HHR. T3 got an Impala.
(T3)It drives smooth, it’s nice. It has the cell phone, the OnStar, the XM, heated seats, leather seats, it’s the joint. They can throw us a Tahoe though, I won’t be mad at that.
Eminem made a movie about the Detroit hip hop scene called '8 Mile.' What would your movie about Detroit hip hop scene be called?
It would be called “The Grind.” That’s what I call it. I would call it “The Grind” buddy because oooooh.
(T3) I would call it “The Last Ones Out.” We have been grinding for years and I feel like Detroit has a lot best kept secrets that people don’t know about. Slowly people starting to catch on but I feel like in a minute, Detroit is going to have a name in the music once again. I think we the last ones out.
You guys went on a tour with D12. Bizarre is presently competing on VHI’s 'Celebrity Fit Club.' You probably witnessed his eating habits on tour. Does he have a chance of winning?
I mean you never know. I heard he lost some weight though. It will probably be homegirl from ‘The Parkers.’
Is Kwame Kirkpatrick your “hip hop mayor”? What about all the talk that he pulled a “Bush 2000” and made sure all the votes weren’t counted?
*Laughs* He is. And no, I don’t think so. I trust our mayor, he’s pretty cool. I don’t think he did that. My man lost. Didn’t the other guy lose by a big difference? So even if he did miss a couple of votes I don’t think he still would have won. He lost, he lost.
Your favorite fellow Detroit musician:
A. White Stripes
B. Eminem
C. Aretha Franklin
D. Carl Craig
E. Stevie Wonder
F. Anita Baker
From that list? I am going to with Aretha Franklin from that list.
(T3) I am going to go with Stevie Wonder.
Off the list, who from Detroit do you like?
(Elzhi) Funny enough, I like Madonna. She’s from Detroit. Aaliyah. We got a lot of people.
